The Wedding Guest Makeup Menu

Wedding Season is definitely upon us and although I won't be going to one until a little later this Summer, I thought I'd share this now to give you some ideas if you have one coming up. I feel like I'm getting to the age where people I know have started getting married and it isn't weird...scary!

Base

For me, wedding makeup is all about fresh, glowing, healthy skin but you also need a base that's going to last you all day and all night.

Too Faced Hangover Primer | £27 | post

This is such a great, hydrating primer. I reach for this if I want my skin to look radiant even if I'm wearing quite a matte base. It just seems to balance out my skin and makes everything apply that bit more smoothly.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup | £29.50 | post

I sometimes find it hard to get the balance right between my skin looking nice and healthy but also making my base stay all day. Weddings tend to be a long day (and night) and the last thing you want is your foundation disappearing under your eyes or around your t-zone by 4pm! So I use my hydrating primer and also add in highlighting products afterwards but go for a semi-matte base. This can only really be described as 'light' in comparison to the original version but it's a nice medium coverage that isn't going to feel like too much. I like to apply it with my Zoeva Silk Finish brush for a flawless finish and you really don't need a lot of product to get good coverage. It also doesn't make the skin look flat and lifeless or overly dry. However it still keeps the shine at bay without me needing to worry about powdering every couple of hours and it's seriously long-wearing! It does contain SPF but I've not noticed issues using this under flash photography.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer | £17.50 | post

This is pretty much my favourite concealer to use both for blemishes and under the eyes! The formula feels so fluffy and lightweight and blends out so easily yet somehow manages to give amazing coverage. It's not too thick to use under the eyes but it's not so hydrating that it's going to slip and slide on blemishes. I also find it doesn't wear off easily, so all round it's pretty much my winner for Spring/Summer. I ensure everything is nice and seamless by bouncing a slightly damp BeautyBlender over my face.

YSL Touche Eclat | £25 | post

If you don't have bad dark circles, you can probably skip this step! However this can also be used to subtly highlight the parts of the face that light naturally hits. I feel like this really makes my under-eye area look bright and awake. I do a couple of clicks and swipe it in the shape of an upside down triangle underneath each of my eyes before blending it out with my Real Techniques Setting Brush.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light | £38 | post

Kind of pricey but if you have this in a palette or something then I definitely recommend using it as a natural setting powder. If my base is already matte then I like to offset that by not also using a mattifying powder. This sets my makeup without adding extra coverage or making things look caky. The Hourglass powders vary but this one doesn't contain any shimmer so although it will add some radiance, it's not going to be like you've set your makeup with a highlighter. I tend to go back with my damp BeautyBlender and pat some of this under my eyes with it to ensure my concealer doesn't crease.

Cheeks

I'm continuing the glowing, radiant skin theme with these cheek products! I like to keep it relatively natural but just want to finish off that flawless base look.

It's a special occasion so why not bring out the highlighting big guns? This is just the most stunning highlighter I own. I love the formula - it's so soft that despite being a powder it almost acts like a cream. It blends onto the skin effortlessly and gives the most gorgeous dewy glow. The beautiful champagne-gold with a hint of peach suits so many people too.

This is just the perfect, glowing flush of colour for the cheeks in a gorgeous romantic mauve colour. What I really love about this shade is that it has a hint of plum to it that mean it makes the cheeks look healthy as opposed to being too grey-toned. This is always what I go for if I'm after a natural look or want my eyes or lips to take centre stage. It isn't glittery at all but just makes you look lit from within. I find the formula applies beautifully and is so long-lasting.

For a bronzer I think the one from my Charlotte Tilbury palette is perfect. It's a great way of getting a little bit of subtle definition but it's nothing too harsh. The slight dewy sheen the formula means it gives a lovely soft warmth to the skin. It adds a little something without a sharp, dramatic contour.

Eyes

I think this look is really all about the eyes. Personally I think copper, rose gold and bronze tones are perfect for this occasion. They're just a nice little twist on your typical wedding shades.

This is pretty much all I reach for when I want a 'romantic' eye look. It was actually really easy to get my hands on this as Amazon make it simple to order from the US quickly and without any hidden charges (check out my experience here) so I'm really glad I took the plunge and got my hands on it. The quality of these eyeshadows really is exceptional; they're all so smooth, pigmented and blend effortlessly. I feel like they don't go 'muddy' on the lids if it's a bit of a long day and wear well in general. The shimmers are a sort of dewy metallic finish (think Makeup Geek's Foiled eyeshadows) and the mattes are some of my absolute favourites - they're so creamy and have amazing colour payoff. The shades are a mixture of rose gold and bronze tones which are just so beautiful.

I talk about this all the time, I know, but it really is the best product for creating the perfect winged eyeliner! The nib is really precise and creates a clean, thin line. The formula itself is so resistant to smudging, transferring and wearing away. Plus it's really pigmented and isn't going to dry out after two weeks like others I could mention!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils in Stag & Smog | £15.50 each | post

For everything else eyeliner; I reach for my trusty Urban Decay ones. They're so creamy and pigmented when applied but they really do stay in place without smudging, even on my watery eyes! I go for the semi-matte charcoal brown Stag for tight-lining, to create that illusion of full lashes. I then take Smog, a brown-bronze with a subtle shimmer, and use it to define my lower lash line. I really like these because black all around the eye can look a little harsh, however these add some definition in a subtle but noticeable way.

This is my all-time favourite mascara as it's the perfect mixture of curl, length and volume. It really does do it all for me yet isn't clumpy or over the top at all. I can happily wear it in the day or layer it up for an evening look. It doesn't flake or smear and the curl lasts me all day. Depending on if you think you'll be blubbling - there is also a Waterproof version! I prefer the original as the Waterproof is a tad crispier and clumpier, however it will prevent your mascara from running or smudging at all.

These are often described as a 'natural' false lash but I'm not a regular wearer of them so for me, they're still very much there. They're very long and fluttery, which I love. I tend to trim these down a little and place them on the outer edge of my lash line for a really natural look. They really do finish off the eye look in my opinion! Also, top tip: if you have an Afro-Caribbean beauty shop near where you live, you can buy these for less than half the price they are in Boots/Superdrug. I genuinely stockpile them, but there's always the high street for those lash emergencies!

Lips

The lips are going to be fairly natural because with all the eating, drinking and cheek-kissing, the last thing you need is something that's going to be messy or transfer a lot.

The first option is your long-wearing matte formula. I've worn this for 6+ hours eating and drinking before I've needed to top up! It's probably one of the most durable formulas I've come across. I don't find it excessively drying at all but it's very pigmented and the fluid formula 'sets' onto your lip. Committed is a gorgeous pinky-brown nude that compliments the other shades in this look beautifully. There's something I just find really flattering about this one.

This is the more natural, sheer option and it's the kind of shade that isn't going to fade unevenly and make you look ridiculous in photos! I have to say I love the formula of these; as a lip balm, this is just the most amazingly nourishing product. These are not your standard tinted lip balm as they're so much more pigmented. Petal is a gorgeous, flattering rose shade with a sheeny finish.

Extras

I know this is a Makeup Menu but I couldn't resist sharing a few other products to complete the look!

This is a really nice, luxurious product to use when you just want to pamper yourself a bit. It smells lovely and the texture feels beautiful on the skin. It also perks up my skin nicely if it's feeling a bit tired or worn out. Not life-changing by any means but it's all about giving your skin as much natural radiance as possible.

Using this gentle AHA acid toner is a must for me if I have a special occasion. It's not so strong that you have to worry about your skin reacting to it and ending up with a rash in all the photos but it definitely makes a difference for me. It evens out the texture of my skin, getting rid of any dry patches and revealing more glowing skin.

Ok, this is mainly in here because I love the rose scent! However it's also really refreshing and moisturising and if I'm going for a matte base, I like to get as much hydration in there as possible.

Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom & Honey Cologne | £42

This is just a beautiful fresh Spring scent; it's the perfect balance of fruity, sweet and floral. The scent is very soft and light, not sickly in the slightest. I find this lingers around nicely during the day as well.

Essie Nail Polish in Eternal Optimist | £7.99 | post

This is described as a 'tea rose' and for me it's pretty much my perfect pink-nude. I find the shade so flattering and the colour is lovely and looks like you made an effort without being the main focus. Sorry I managed to miss this out of my shot! See it in action here.

  4. The Lorac Palette looks gorgeous, I can't wait to pick one up when I go to NY in November, my list keeps on growing!! Ardell Lashes are also some of my favourites, I love how natural they look but still give an amazing look. I think if I did a wedding guest look I would have to include MUG Grandstand and the Urban Decay Summer Highlighter in Sin! You should definitely check the UD Summer range out they have so many gorgeous products.

I'm just waiting until I have some extra money again, I need to invest in the new UDxAlice palette first :') The photography in this post is extra on point today, not sure why because it's your signature style, but for some reason it looks extra bright and lovely to look at!

  13. I'm bridesmaid in a few weeks time and having nightmares about the makeup, had the worst trial ever - think orange foundation, dirty brushes and a dark room for application and you'll have an idea what I mean! Estée Lauder DoubleWear is the only foundation I trust, I don't care about the SPF either!
