My Morning Routine | Weekend Edition

This is a sponsored post

It's Sunday morning so what better time to share with you what I like to get up to and what my essential products are to start my day over the weekend? On workdays my routine is about as unglamorous and as rushed as it gets, however on Saturday and Sunday I have a little extra time that I like to make the most of.

I tend to wake up at around half 8/9 in the morning on a weekend, because although I like a lie in, if I go too far it upsets my routine. I also don't like to feel as though I'm completely wasting the day. Having said that, I tend to chill out in bed for a little while before I start to get ready. I might read a book or a magazine, scroll through my Instagram feed or plan some blog content.

Otherwise I often cosy up with my iPad to watch a TV show. I've just finished the new series of Black Mirror (which was amazing and well worth the wait!) and I'm currently obsessed with Westworld. Sometimes I fancy something a little lighter so I'll just make my way through my YouTube subscription box. It's the perfect time to do my nails, as I'm so rarely sat still without using my hands! I am a huge fan of the Nail HQ Strengthener Treatment (£6.99), which I use as a base coat every time I do may nails to prevent them peeling and to increase the wear-time of the colour applied over it. I then go in with Barry M's Coconut Infusion Nail Paint in Starfish (£4.99) because the nude beige colour always seems to work, no matter what I'm wearing.

Next I head into the bathroom for my skincare routine. I start by washing my hands with the Carex Love Hearts Fun Edition Hand Wash (£1.85, buy here). I always use Carex because it's the perfect balance between moisturising and antibacterial. I get dry hands (especially during the winter) so it's important that whatever I'm using isn't going to strip my skin of moisture. This dermalogically-tested formula keeps my skin nice and soft without the need to apply a lotion after every time I wash my hands. At the same time most 'nice and moisturising' hand washes aren't very foaming and don't have all of the antibacterial qualities this one does, which is especially important when I'm touching my face. This scent is my personal favourite because although hand wash is an essential, there's no reason why you can't try something a little more fun and I always seem to catch myself smelling my hands for ages after I've used this. I have a sweet tooth and love yummy fragrances so a hand wash that smells of sweet and fizzy Love Hearts was always going to be a winner! (Check out #LoveCarex and #ShareTheLove on Instagram for more images.)

Moving onto my face, I first cleanse with the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel (£29.50, review) - this is just a quick and easy option for me that leaves my skin clean and soft. Then I hop into the shower and, given that it's Autumn, I've been back on Lush's Rose Jam Shower Gel (£16.50 for 500g). It's the perfect sweet-but-floral scent that lingers nicely on the skin. I wash my hair with the Hair is Fabric Hydration Support Cleansing Conditioner (£25, review), which is a really great all-in-one for lazy days. It has a semi-foaming gel texture that cleans the hair, however it's hydrating and doesn't strip it of moisture. I leave it in for a few minutes before rinsing and towel drying my hair and then going in with the Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair (£23.50, review). This is a lightweight, non-greasy leave-in product that nourishes my dry hair.

Back in my bedroom, I tone with a quick spritz of the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist (£18, review). This is a light but moisturising facial mist that gives instant relief to dry skin. After it's settled, I use the Hylamide Glow Booster Serum (£20, review), which really revives my skin when it's looking dull and lacklustre. Finally for skincare, I've been trialling two new products from Philosophy and so far I'm impressed! (There's a full review on the way.) The Take a Deep Breath Eye Gel Cream (£24) is lightweight, and non-greasy but hydrates my eye area and gets rid of any puffiness. The Take a Deep Breath Gel Cream (£29.50) provides the perfect level of hydration for my skin; it isn't smothering at all but still leaves my skin looking soft and healthy.

I pretty much always use the L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Serum (£9.99) - it's a total bargain that never leaves my hair looking greasy or feeling sticky. It gives a shiny, healthy finish and smoothes out any dead ends. Before blow drying, I give my hair a spritz with the Batiste Heat & Shine Spray (£4.49), which is a lightweight dry heat protector. I then use my GHD Arctic Gold Hair Dryer (£99, review), which is so powerful and leaves my hair amazingly smooth and straight. I often smooth over the front with straighteners and possibly add in some natural waves (though I'm pretty low-maintenance when it comes to styling my hair properly). For this I've been loving my new GHD Copper Luxe Styler (£135).

For my body I've been all about the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil (£17). It's so incredibly nourishing whilst not feeling at all slippery and smells incredible! I usually moisturise my hands with Soap & Glory's Hand Food (£6) because it's nice and lightweight for the daytime. My favourite scent is Smoothie Star, which smells of vanilla and almonds! Sadly my go-to winter scent has been discontinued (*sobs*) - Laura Mercier's Creme de Pistache Eau Gourmande Fragrance (£42.50) is the most gorgeous sweet, warm, yummy scent. You can still get your hands on the rest of the indulgent fragrances from this range, though, so if you like these sorts of scents it's well worth  checking out. Finally, I apply the Want Skincare Orange & Cocoa Lip Saver (£5) which I really like for it's nourishing but not overly heavy texture, plus it smells of chocolate orange!

Next I make a smoothie (which has been my thing since picking up this bargain blender) which is really quick, easy and yummy but still very filling. I blend together 2 bananas,  two spoonfuls of Lick Banana & Honey Frozen Yogurt (this is a bit of a naughty weekend treat - I will often replace it with milk or natural yoghurt and just add some honey on weekdays), two spoonfuls of the Rude Health Nutty Crunch Muesli (as I am not a huge dried fruit fan and this one doesn't contain it) and two spoons of crushed ice (to make sure the consistency stays smooth).

If I'm heading out then it's time for some makeup! It's winter so I've been back to loving the Too Faced Hangover Primer (£27), which is my hydrating option. If I know I don't need my makeup to last for absolutely ages (like on a weekday), I reach for the quick and easy Clinique Chubby in the Nude Stick Foundation (£23, review). Although it isn't the longest-lasting, it just gives the most natural, radiant satin finish. All you have to do is swipe it directly onto the skin and work it in with a buffing brush. Next I apply the hydrating, lightweight but medium-full coverage Too Faced Born This Way Concealer (£20, review). This works well on blemishes (though I don't have too many of them at the moment, touch wood...) as well as for a radiant and flawless look under the eyes. To further brighten my dark circles I use the YSL Touche Eclat (£25). I then set under the eyes and my t-zone with the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural (£24), which is a non-caky face powder with some coverage. It looks so traceless on the skin and despite blotting away shine, it doesn't take away the natural luminosity of your skin.

Onto cheeks; I get a dewy highlight using the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone (£30, review), which is a light gold shade with a cream formula. It isn't greasy at all but still blends out effortlessly for a nice, radiant look. The Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion (£28, review) is a great easy and natural bronzer. The shade 30M Sienna is pretty much perfect on my skin tone - it's warm but not orange and so adds some subtle definition. It has a matte formula but blends out with minimal effort. I've also recently rediscovered my Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Exposed ($28, review). It's a matte formula but blends beautifully and wears well without going patchy. The shade itself is an understated mauve with some rich plum undertones (as opposed to being grey or ashy).

For the eyes, my go-to autumnal look has been Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (£5.50, review), MAC Woodwinked (£10, review), Anastasia Beverly Hills Red Earth ($12, review) and Anastasia Beverly Hills Truffle ($12, review). Shimma Shimma is a light champagne-white colour with a nice sheeny shimmer, which I use to highlight the inner corner. I then use Woodwinked across the lid - it's a warm antique gold-bronze with a glitter-free metallic finish. Red Earth is a beautiful muted pinky-brown matte which I use in the crease. Finally, I use a flat shader brush to pat Truffle on the outer corner, which is a plum shimmer tone.

At the moment I've been using the LA Splash Art Ki Tekt Waterproof Slim Eyeliner (£11.25, review) religiously. It's a bold, matte look but the tip is really precise. I love how this doesn't smudge or transfer during the day too. To thicken up the look of my lashes I've been tight lining with the matte black Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero (£15.50, review) and for a softer look on the lower lash line, I opt for Scorch (£15.50, review) from the same range. This is a warm brown-bronze-gold shimmer.

To finish up I use the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil (£8) - you guys know I love this! It just always gives a soft, natural look with minimal effort. It isn't too crumbly or too waxy, it isn't too ashy or too warm; it just always works for me. I then set my brows in place with a tinted gel - I opt for the Benefit Gimme Brow (£18.50) as it gives hold without being crispy and adds colour and volume but isn't too much. A recent rediscovery has been the Benefit They're Real Mascara (£19.50) which gives my lashes amazing length and separation. Finally I apply a lip colour and at the moment I keep reaching for the ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park  ($6, review). It's such a comfortable formula and doesn't cling to dry patches despite having a semi-matte finish. The colour itself is a peachy-brown nude shade that goes with so many of my makeup looks.

  21. What a dreamy weekend routine. With my 3 little ones up from 6am on Sat/Sun, I can guarantee my routine looks a tad different ;) haha! I'm really tempted to try the Too Faced primer to compare it to the This Works In Transit Camera Close Up which is definitely going to be my winter primer this year. xxx

  26. Oh I love this post I rarely see something as fun and unique as this! Honestly my weekend is basically 50% laze about, 30% baking and making new things in the kitchen and 20% school/blog work. Ha I'm not very productive in the practical sense during my weekend! I definitely do have a bit of play about with makeup if I have any really interesting ideas or looks. I've heard good things about BlackMirror but it's one show on a list of like 15 I've been meaning to get around to, not to mention my ever growing list of documentaries!
