New in Beauty | High-End

September is always a great time for new beauty launches and 2016 has been no exception! I picked up a few new things, I was kindly sent some others and today now I've had a chance to try everything out it's time to share my thoughts.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer | £20 | Of course after all the YouTube hype, I had to get my hands on this concealer. No matter how happy I am with my base routine I think I always just cling onto the idea that something more amazing might be out there! I picked up the shade Medium (check out this link from the Sephora website if your local Debenhams doesn't carry Too Faced or this product or the right shade) which is pretty spot-on as a slightly highlighting but still warm-toned under eye shade. This is definitely the most fluid of these creamy concealers that I own, which means it blends out very easily and never looks caky however on the flip side it is definitely a little more prone to creasing! I can't even touch up with this concealer without setting it with powder. I do have combination skin though and it has been Summer so we will see how it fares as we move into Autumn. I wouldn't recommend this for blemishes because I do think it is a little too hydrating and it is more of a medium coverage. Let me know if you'd like to see an in-depth comparison between this, my Nars and my Urban Decay once I've used it consistently for a few months.

Urban Decay All-Nighter Liquid Foundation* | £27 | This is one of the most exciting launches of the bunch for me! Urban Decay have released a new full-coverage foundation (with amazing packaging) in an impressive 24 shades. I was actually sent both Shade 6.0 and Shade 7.0 which is a good job because I had seen other people mention that this oxidises on the skin. In case you aren't familiar with how their shades work; the .0 shades have warm undertones and the .5 shades are more pink-toned. I did find the claims that this dries darker to be true for me so I'd recommend going a shade lighter in this or, even better, if you have an Urban Decay counter local to you just pop in and get some samples to try at home. The consistency of the formula isn't too thick and heavy but this is very much a full-coverage foundation for evening wear, as the name suggests. It isn't a build-able formula really; it pretty much goes on with that full coverage and you don't need to layer any more product on. I personally apply this with a tightly-packed synthetic foundation brush (such as the Zoeva Silk Finish or Nanshy Flawless Foundation). It gives a nice, flawless look without settling too much into my pores or fine lines. I'd say it has a matte finish but it isn't flat on the skin. The main thing for me is the claim in the name: it's longevity. My skin probably eats foundation at a faster rate than most people's, however I do find this lasts incredibly well on me. It takes until the end of a 10-hour day for any shine to start creeping through and even then it hasn't disappeared from any of my problem areas!

Estee Lauder Nude Cushion Stick Radiant Makeup | £28 | The shades in this foundation have the opposite problem to the Urban Decay! They come up lighter than the original Double Wear, so definitely don't just order your usual shade online without checking it matches first. I wear 4W1 Honey Bronze in this as opposed to my usual 3W2 Cashew and it's a good match for me as I have a tan from Italy, though I could see myself going back down to 3W2 (which is veeeery slightly dark on me in the original Double Wear) once Winter arrives. It comes in the full, impressive selection of shades that you find with the original, as far as I'm aware. You simply twist the base and the product comes through a little hole in the centre of the cushion (don't worry, this is removable so you can wash it) and it's very easy to control how much comes out. I then swipe it directly onto my skin and blend the product out with a buffing brush. You really can customise the coverage with this; it can be a light-medium coverage if you want it to be, or it can be built up to being almost medium-full. It has a very healthy look on the skin without being at all greasy, though if you're a fan of the super-matte finish of the original this may not be for you. Personally I love the look of this; it's radiant without being overly dewy and I like this sort of coverage for everyday wear. It's so quick and easy to apply and you can throw it in your bag to touch up during the day. It's long-wearing, though not as much as the matte version. It generally stays in place but I like to powder my t-zone after the 6-hour mark.

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion Foundation* | £30 | This is the first full coverage, less dewy foundation that I've come across in cushion packaging. I really love this handy compact and once you've used up the cushion, you can just buy a refill (which is £10 less). I have 03 Beige Peche which isn't a great match for me; I often find Lancome foundations have very beige undertones and I have warm skin so it never quite works on me, plus this only comes in 6 colours! The shade is a bit neutral (though not pink and ashy) so looks slightly 'off' on me, plus it's a bit light on my summer skin tone. However it wasn't so bad that I couldn't still appreciate the formula. I actually find it applies really well with the sponge applicator, which isn't something I ever thought I'd find myself saying! It gives a really nice medium coverage with a satin finish. It allows your natural radiance through without being at all shiny. It's not a 'no makeup' finish but considering how flawless it makes the skin look, it's actually pretty natural and lightweight. It also wears extremely well on my skin and I don't find myself reaching for the powder in desperation at lunch time. Overall I think the finish is beautiful, I love the concept, I just wish the shade selection was better!

Lancôme Cushion Blush Subtil in 025 Sorbet Grenadine* | £28 | These caught my eye as soon as I saw them on Instagram a while back so I was thrilled to receive one! I never know with cream blusher if it's going to make me look greasy or last well on me, and I have been disappointed by high-end offerings before so I was originally planning on waiting for more reviews before investing in one. However I got the chance to put it to the test myself. It has a traditional cushion that's saturated with the product. Though they look very vibrant in the pan, these blushers have a gel-like texture so they're going to apply almost like watercolour. You get a sponge applicator with this too but I personally like to use a small stippling brush to apply this precisely and naturally. It's so quick and easy to get a beautiful, natural flush of colour with this product and you really don't have to worry about going overboard with it. I do notice it has faded after 7 hours, however it doesn't look patchy, just less vibrant. Sorbet Grenadine is a gorgeous peachy-pink colour that I wish I'd had during the Summer months!

Makeup Forever Pro Light Fusion Powder in 02 Gold* | £28 | If you know me then you'll know this is basically my perfect highlighter colour! Makeup Forever have released two stunning new highlighters (the other is a pearly-pink colour) which went onto the Precious About Makeup website I've linked today. Remember last year when Anastasia Beverly Hills released the Illuminators and I was obsessed with the limited edition So Hollywood which then sold out? I'm going to say I think this is not only almost identical in colour to that but I actually think the formula is better! It's a gorgeous true gold shade that isn't anything glittery (it's more of a metallic sheen) but still packs a punch. The texture is so smooth and blends out beautifully to give my skin incredible glow. This is one of my favourite recent beauty discoveries and I'd 100% recommend checking it out!

  1. I have just got the Urban Decay foundation but can't use it yet as I had an operation yesterday. Dying to use it! I have seen/heard it mainly seems to be the darker shades that are oxidising. I got 1.5 and put it on my hand and waited for it to dry and it didn't really oxidise so we will see.

  13. I have the Lancome cushion foundation and blush, both of which i'm loving so far. I'm really want to the try the UD foundation, but it think it be a bit to drying for my skin. The MUFE highlighter looks so pretty. I'm still on fence about whether to buy the Too faced concealer so I'd love to see a comparison because the NARS and UD ones are 2 of my favourites! xx

  20. I've not heard great things about the Urban Decay foundation yet form the majority of people :(

I might just buy it or get a sample and try it out once and for all. Not a fan of the oxidisation point.. Seems sloppy on the brands side and like they formulated it quickly?

    1. I definitely wouldn't say I've read more negative reviews than positive, it just seems like a 'love it or hate it' product for a lot of people. I think the shades should be consistent across their product range. At the end of the day you can always get a sample before you buy to see if the formula and shade will work xx

  33. I really want to try the new Urban Decay foundation but it will probably take a million years to reach Australia! I've been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about, some people either love it or hate it. So hopefully I can get a sample to try it out. I'm hoping they have a really pale shade, because I' always the palest but if this dries darker, I need a ridiculously pale shade! x
