The Summer Beauty Edit

It's time again for me to sit down and bring together my beauty picks for this season! As always, this is a bit of a general run-down but please do check out the full reviews of these products that I've linked below.

Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Cream | £25 | post | I still totally love my Cover FX BB Gel, however this has been a new discovery for 2016 and I just had to talk about it! It's surprisingly good coverage (I'd say light-medium), especially considering the name of the product. However I still don't find it looks or feels heavy on my skin. It gives a sort of 'satin' finish; it isn't at all dewy but isn't entirely matte either. It sits really nicely on my skin and doesn't emphasise imperfections or settle into pores and fine lines. I'm really impressed with the longevity of this too! It isn't something that's going to stay 100% fresh if you're on a sweltering beach holiday, however it's perfect for the evenings or for the moderate summers we have in the UK.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer | £17.50 | post | This seems to have steamrollered into first place as far as my favourite concealers go! It's hydrating but not dewy or greasy on blemishes. It's light and fluffy in texture yet gives amazing coverage. I actually keep two shades because I love it both under the eyes and on blemishes! It's actually really long-wearing too and is just the concealer I can always trust.

Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray | £9 (Travel Size) | This is really great quick step in my summer routine that just helps my makeup stay in place and shine-free for that few extra hours, which is essential to me given my makeup is prone to melting into an oily mess in the heat!

Models Own Sculpt & Glow Liquid Highlight in Rose Gold* | £9.99 | post As I did mention in my original post on this, I'd describe it as a bronzed-gold colour not rose gold, however the shade is beautiful for this time of year. It has a gorgeous sheen but isn't too glittery. There are so many ways in which you can use it but personally my favourite is to get a really dewy, sun kissed highlight by using it over my foundation on the tops of my cheekbones.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in That Glow | £39 | post | There are 3 incarnations of this palette but the obvious choice for me was the gold-champagne-bronze option. I was pleasantly surprised at how natural these look on the skin because when I think of this brand, I think of really high-impact pigment. They blend out beautifully for a natural, dewy highlight. I love the shade Dripping in Gold the most, which is a gold-toned champagne however I can honestly say I use all of the highlighters in this palette (also, the pans are magnetised and can be removed individually, which is handy).

Tarte 12-Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Achiote | $28 | post | This blusher shade is described as 'honeysuckle' (what does that even mean?! Honeysuckle comes in more than one colour!), however I'd say it's a sort of watermelon shade. It's a matte finish and the colour is really summery but not intimidatingly bright. Tarte make one of the best blusher formulas for my combination skin, which is why I bang on about them so much! Although it's a matte formula, it isn't patchy and applies so evenly. I love how effortlessly I can blend this out and how well it wears over the hours.

Models Own Rock N Rosy Blusher Stick in Peach Pop* | £6.99 | This is described as 'peach' but it's a very vibrant peach tone, with some reddish coral tones mixed in there. This is absolutely dinky, which makes it pretty handy for travelling. It has a really pigmented formula that isn't at all greasy. I apply this with my fingers in a dabbing motion and despite the pigmentation, it's actually really easy to blend out. I was impressed with the longevity of this, as I actually find cream formulas a bit hit-and-miss in terms of wear time. By the end of the day it isn't quite as vibrant however it's not at all patchy.

ColourPop Cheek Shock Bronzer in Bronze Me | $8 | post | I'm honestly obsessed with this bronzer and it's really got me interested in trying more cream formulas. It's a deep, warm-toned brown with a matte look (though it has a very fine golden sheen running through it). I apply this with a synthetic brush to define and add some colour to my cheeks and temples. It honestly applies so evenly with no effort and looks very natural on the skin. I love the almost mousse-like texture because it means that although it's a cream, it doesn't aggravate my oiliness in the summer sun.

Clarins Ombre Iridescent Waterproof Eyeshadow in Copper Brown* | £18 | post | I've spoken before about the insane longevity of this eyeshadow formula! It honestly stays crease-proof even in the heat, even without a primer. It's a warm, rich brown shade with a golden shimmer. Once it sets down, it doesn't budge at all and is perfect for a smoky eye in a few seconds.

Stila Eyes Are the Window Palette in Soul | £30 | post | This isn't the most obvious 'summer' palette however I love it for a bronzed smoky eye (in the evenings especially). The colours are beautiful and I love how they translate to my eyelids. They're pigmented (both the mattes and shimmers), easy to blend and long-lasting.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara | £7.99 | Lash Sensational is my favourite, and whilst this is a little clumpier, it still delivers on the length, volume and curl. Slightly stiffer lashes are a small price to pay for something that can take my watery, hay fevered eyes though!

Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil in Red Berry* | £19 | post | This is such a beautiful lip product; it's so hydrating and gives that glossy look without any stickiness. It just feels so comfortable and the tint gives a very slight rosy colour to the lips.

Cinique Chubby Stick Balm in Mega Melon* | £15.99 | post | This is such a quick and easy lip colour that's nice and hydrating but has more pigmentation than the Clarins. It's a pinky-orange melon shade that's nice and summery but still quite sheer and fuss-free.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Tropic Tonic | £15.50 | post | This is one of the few bold, matte lip colours I feel pretty comfortable wearing. It's a pigmented coral tone that seriously pops against a tan and although it's a matte, it has quite a creamy formula that isn't too drying on my lips.

The Body Shop Pinita Colada Shower Gel* | £5 | There's nothing like pina coladas to get you in the holiday mood and this just fills my bathroom with the scent every time I use it. The pineapple-coconut scent lingers around really nicely on my skin several hours after using it too.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub | £8 | From one cocktail to another; the Sugar Crush scent smells just like mojitos to me! I find this to be 'rough enough' for me because it isn't scrubbing my skin to within an inch of its life but it's still very efficient and I love how smooth my legs feel after using this. It's definitely an essential for the 'bare leg' months.

Mandara Spa Body Butter in Mango and Coconut* | £6 | I talk about these body butters quite a lot because they have such a light texture that absorbs easily but still leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished. Mango and Coconut is definitely my favourite for summer as it it's a nice, light scent but still works really well with the other fragranced products here.

Huile Prodigieuse Or Dry Shimmer Oil | £19 | Yes, this is a totally unnecessary product but it's just amazing for feeling beach-confident. The formula itself is so nourishing and it contains a gold shimmer that catches the light and makes you look all golden goddess-y! It's great when you've not quite got tanned legs yet and just want to add a bit of 'something' and also for the evening.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent | £50 | This is just cocktails, sun, sea, beaches and sunscreen in a bottle! I even spritz this on when it's a dreary, grey English day just to lift my spirits and get into the summer mood, even when the weather is raining on my parade.

Formula X Nail Polish in Here Comes the Sun | $10.50 | Was there ever a more appropriately-named product for a Summer Beauty Edit? Annoyingly I managed to miss this out of my shot but you can see this gorgeous vibrant hot pink-coral shade in action below. I'm really impressed at how evenly and opaquely this applies and it dries really quickly! Even without a top and base coat I can get a good 3 days of wear out of this.

Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil | £21.50 | This is a really nice, light mist that contains SPF for your hair. It doesn't leave my hair feeling great or heavy and I do think it's helped keep my hair in better condition in the sun than it usually is after a holiday.

Bumble Bumble Surf Spray* | £22 | This is perfect for those days when you kind of just want to roll out of bed and go with the messy look but you want it to look intentional. This isn't at all gritty or drying for me; I just spray a little (more towards the roots) and give my hair a scrunch for those effortless beachy waves.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet* | £23 | Since this arrived, I honestly haven't even looked at another moisturiser. It's overtaken the Body Shop Vitamin C Glow-Boost as my ultimate summer skincare product. It's a lightweight cream-gel formula that sort of melts into the skin and absorbs so easily yet gives me amazing hydration.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light Fluid | £16.50 | This is my favourite facial SPF - I've honestly never tried anything that's so lightweight and virtually traceless on my skin. It doesn't leave a white cast on my face due to the tint and doesn't make my skin greasy or break me out. I can also apply my makeup on top without it looking uneven or peeling off, which is amazing for SPF50 (plus broad spectrum).

Bioderma Hydrabio Eau de Soin Spray | £9 | This is a fine, water-like face mist that, as well as refreshing your skin, contains SPF30. It doesn't ruin my makeup if I spray it during the day, nor does it feel sticky on my skin. It's a really handy size to just throw in your bag to top up your sun protection.

Vichy Ideal Soleil Face and Body Milk | £19 | This is a pretty lightweight formula that still provides SPF50 and broad spectrum protection. I like to use this on my body and it doesn't feel sticky or heavy at all, despite being nicely moisturising. The formula isn't too thick and white so I find it easy to work into my skin.

  3. The ABH Glow Kit looks beautiful and I wish I could buy it! But at the moment I'm far too poor haha! Do you think the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray would still give a messy-beach look on naturally dead straight hair?! My summer picks would have to be Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, Seventeen's Skin Wow and also Maybelline's Lash Sensational, although I need to try the waterproof version!
