What's in my Muji Drawers? | June

To say June was a month of trying new things would be an understatement! It was not only my birthday but also I was just feeling kind of spendy... So there's a good mix of products in here that I've had for a while and a few new ones that are already firm favourites. I've especially been loving a bronzed/nude look this month.

Base and Face

I picked up the Makeup Forever HD Foundation (£29) as soon as it dropped about a month ago. The colour match is ok but certainly could be better. I still can't decide how I feel about this! It does have a nice finish; flawless but natural, not too matte or too dewy. However I'm not sure it lasts that well throughout the day and the tone isn't quite right so that throws things off a little. All in all I'm not sold but I remember I didn't like my now Holy Grail foundation (Sheer Glow) that much to begin with so I'm keeping an open mind.

I'll skim over my concealer products as they don't really change, however there's a bit of a new technique I've been using that I'll tell you about. Firstly I pat on a layer of Benefit's Erase Paste (£20.50) with a flat concealer brush or my fingers underneath my eyes to correct the tone with its salmon colour. I then use the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer (£7.99, review and swatch hereunderneath my eyes and blend it out with the Real Techniques Setting Brush (£6.99) which is just the best combination to get concealer blended out seamlessly in seconds. If I'm having a bit of a rough day I'll add a small amount of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (£22, review and demo here), otherwise I just use that on blemishes as it's a pretty heavy coverage.

Whilst I still use my Bourjois powder on my t-zone, I've been using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light (£38, review and swatch here) to set everything. I take a second Real Techniques Setting Brush (from the Sculpting Set, which seems a little less dense) for my under-eye concealer then a bigger brush for the rest of my face. It adds a nice glow from within and makes my makeup stay in place longer. I then finish up my face by using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure (£28), which I really need to do a post on as I love it even more than the other shade I have! It's just the most gorgeous mauve/dusky pink shade that has this slight plummy tone. I love the shade, how it applies effortlessly, looks on the skin and lasts like no other! It's amazing when I'm in a rush (blusher is one of the last things I apply so I don't lean on it and ruin it whilst doing my eyes); a quick sweep with my Real Techniques Blush Brush (£9.99) and I'm good to go.

Eyes and Lips

At the start of the month the Stila palette was all I was wearing, however as that's in my monthly favourites (which I don't want this to be a repetition of), I've gone with the things I've been wearing pretty much every day this past week. Firstly I've been loving the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze Moon (£29) across the lid with the edges blended out using the Zoeva 233 Cream Shader (£6.95) (which is also amazing for if you have potted cream shadows - much less messy than using your fingers!) It seriously just goes on like a dream and makes it look like you have multiple shades on. I have a lot of the KIKO ones so I'm going to see if I can find a dupe and do a post on it! If I've wanted to add a little extra I've used the KIKO Queen of Hearts Essential Brown Quad (unfortunately limited edition, which is also a shame as it's also the perfect Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita dupe). A bit of the highlighting shade in my inner corner and a bit of the red shade in the crease.

I've recently gone back to using the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (£11.96). It's pretty impressive this hasn't dried out as I've been using it on and off for a few months. It's still a really pigmented inky black and the nib is actually made up of lots of thin little bristles. On the bottom lash line I don't like to use black as I feel it makes my eyes look smaller. For something softer I've been loving the KIKO Generation Next Crystal Eyeliners in 02 Technological Brown and 03 Reflect Burgundy (£6.90 each), which are gorgeously creamy but long-lasting and smudge-proof. There's a more bronze shade and also a deeper red (both are shimmers). On my lashes I've been trying out the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara (£7.99, not yet online). I have a lot of love for the original, so wanted to see if this would be good to take on holiday. The formula is not as wet as the original and I think it clumps a bit more however the curl really lasts.

My eyebrows are taken care of (as they have been for a while!) with the Soap and Glory Archery Brow Pencil (£8). It's that perfect tone (not too warm but not too grey) and texture (not too soft but not excessively waxy) to quickly fill in my brows then brush it out with the spooly end for a natural look.  Finally I've been playing it safe a lot with my lips recently with my fail-safe sheer 'my lips but better' colour: the MAC Lustre Lipstick in Jubilee (£15.50, swatch and post here). It's just so easy to throw on for a subtle lip look when I'm wearing the Hourglass blush and want that to be the stand-out feature.

Have you tried any of these products? What's been your go-to look this month?

  29. What a shame that the MUFE foundation did not turn out to be what you expected. When I first got it, I was obsessed with it and then the weather changed and so did it. We stopped getting along until I learned to use the right primer and setting powder and now we are back on track. I like your Muji line up and I am still eyeing those lovely Hourglass products...xx
