I'm sure you're sick of reading reviews of Benefit's new Roller Lash Mascara (you can get a free sample in this month's Elle, if you didn't already know) so I thought I'd do a comparison with a potential dupe!
The wands on both mascaras are very similar however there's a big difference: a full-size Roller Lash will be retailing for £19.50 whereas Lash Sensational will cost you £5.99 (buy here). But are the two similar once applied?
So here's a before and after using the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
And then before and after using the Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara.
The wands are very similar; the Benefit wand is a little thinner but I didn't find applying one or the other any more difficult to work with. I love how you can comb the product through your lashes, curving upwards. I find Lash Sensational a little more thick in formula and I feel it gives more volume whereas the Benefit separates them slightly more. Both of them add an amazing amount of curl; which is the main selling point of the Roller Lash. I'll admit it: I NEVER curl my lashes. Even if I finish getting ready for a night out early I'd rather go and get myself a drink than sit with an eyelash curler! Therefore both of these products are amazing because you can get that curl without adding an extra step to your routine and it'll stay there all day.
Do I like Roller Lash? Yes. Would I spend £19.50 on it? Hmmm...I'm not quite sure. Maybe when I'm next in duty free I'll pick it up but I do think I prefer They're Real, so if I'm going to pay £20 for a Benefit mascara it'll be that one. So for now I'll be sticking to Lash Sensational! I'd definitely recommend grabbing a copy of Elle for £4 as it's worth giving it a go for yourself but for me right now I'm going to say Save.
Have you tried either of these mascaras? Will you be buying a full-sized Roller Lash?
I agree with you, I prefer 'They're Real' I think the Roller Lash one was made for people who thought 'They're Real' was a bit too clumpy? The more clumps the better for me haha (well not really but I like quite a thick dramatic lash!)
ReplyDeleteThe Maybelline one looks really good, didn't realise how similar the wands were!
www.kathorrocks.com
Haha! I didn't even find They're Real clumpy tbh! xx
DeleteI must admit I do like the Roller Lash one but I don't think that I would pay that much for it. I will though be going out to buy the cheaper one as that looks just the same for a 1-4 of the price.

Yeah I liked it well enough too, just not £19.50 enough haha xx
Deletegreat post! thanks for the review
ReplyDeletei'd really like it if you checkout my last post Love tanya by tanya burr it's such good book

Oh my! I've been wondering whether there are any dupes out there! I need to try this now and see how it compares because I'm loving Roller Lash at the moment!
ReplyDeleteJoanne Sherrell x
Yeah for £5.99 it's worth a go ;) xx
DeleteI still haven't tried my sample from Elle, it's been sitting in my makeup drawer untouched but hopefully I will use it soon to see what all the hype is about. I'm glad to hear the Maybelline one is a good dupe as I am the same as you only buy expensive mascaras in Duty Free x
ReplyDeleteBeauty with charm | REALASH Giveaway
I'd love to hear your thoughts once you've had a go of it! xx
DeleteI'm definitely going to try the Lash sensational! I've never seen it around before (maybe I'm just blind) so thanks for this post!x
ReplyDeleteShannon | http://simplyshannonn.blogspot.co.uk/
I believe it's only just come out! xx
DeletePersonally think the lash sensation one looks better on you :)
ReplyDeleteI'm gutted that non waterproof mascaras do not work for me~
But I do have to admit that roller lash wand is thinner and can grab onto lashes better.
Interesting review and comparason! Have a great day
♥

Thank you - it's become a favourite of mine! xx
DeleteI find that with my Roller Lash sample it is getting everywhere on my face and is very wet, much prefer Babydoll from YSL as a high end or Benefit's Bad Gal!

Angel Flicks
Oh no - what a shame! xx
DeleteI'm not big on Benefit mascaras as it is, so I trust your judgement and stick with my Lash Sensational! hehe! :) xo
ReplyDeleteLauren // The Beauty Ideal
Haha it really is great! xx
DeleteI have both of these and think I prefer my Lash Sensational! I'd definitely rather save my money and buy the Maybelline version! :)
ReplyDeleteSarah / Sarah Smiles
Me too :) xx
DeleteThis is a great comparison, I've been hearing so much about both of these as the wand really does seem similar. I tried the Roller Lash for the first time yesterday and really liked how thin the brush was, it's good to read the brush of the Lash Sensational is still good to work with though - I'll definitely be purhcasing it :)

:)
x
Well you can always compare the two for yourself :) xx
DeleteI like the new Benefit mascara but I wouldn't pay the full price for it. I also bought recently the Maybelline one and like that one the same so definitely will stick to the budget version :) x
ReplyDeleteMummy’s Beauty Corner
Yeah I think the Roller Lash would definitely be one I'd only get tax-free! xx
DeleteI've read so many reviews on the benefit mascara. It's great that you found another to compare it to! Great review :)
ReplyDeleteI feel as if I'm the only one that isn't overhyped about the benefit mascara hmm..
fashionenth.blogspot.com
Yeah, i wasn't bowled over but it's a nice mascara - I feel like the Maybelline is a little more 'wow' though xx
DeleteI think your lashes actually look better with the maybelline, but that might just be me. I would always go for separation over volume, but I'm not sure the preference is worth the extra money!
ReplyDeleteSammy xo.
littlefickleblog.blogspot.com
Yeah I usually go for the separation over thickening but there's just something about the Maybelline one! xx
DeleteI've been tempted to give the Maybelline one a try. I like the Benefit one, but they are pretty expensive and I never find them to be amazing.
ReplyDeleteAntonia x | Fifi and the Diamonds
I think the Maybelline one is better personally :) xx
DeleteI love the idea of these mascaras, mainly as I have an irrational fear of eyelash curlers! I think I'd try the maybelline one over the benefit though- they do look slightly better with that one on :)
ReplyDeleteHaha I can never be bothered with curling! xx
Deleteoooooh I'm so glad I read this!
ReplyDeleteI really like the roller lash and I'd seen the Maybelline mascara on the shelf but I didn't take a close look at it, I didn't know it was a potential dupe! It looks great so I'm going to be trying this out for sure!
Jenn
Photo-Jenn-ic
I think it's even better tbh! xx
DeleteI've only tried the sample of the benefit roller lash mascara and I like it so far x
ReplyDeleteHeather | Of Beauty & Nothingness
Yeah it's pretty nice and was well worth grabbing Elle for :) xx
DeleteAh I'm so glad there's a dupe for this mascara! I've not tried the Roller Lash yet, but seeing everyone's pictures is making me really tempted to try it. I may pick up Elle for the sample, but I think that if I want a full size product I'll go for the Maybelline one! Considering the difference in price, there's really no visible difference.

Glad to have assisted ;) I'd definitely say get the Elle sample whilst you can! xx
DeleteI haven't gotten round to trying the roller lash yet (must be the only one ;)) as I still have lot's of spare mascaras :) I like the comparison you've done as for £2 more you can get a full size :)
ReplyDeleteVelvet Blush
I think you may be! And I know what you mean it seems pointless to have loads open at once xx
DeleteThis is such a great comparison, thank you for doing it! I picked up Elle today so I could try Roller Lash, I'll definitely buy Lash Sensational if I like Roller Lash!
ReplyDeleteUK Beauty and Lifestyle Blog
xx
Yeah it's definitely worth still getting the sample :) xx
DeleteI really like the Roller lash so far and so this is a great comparison. I think the only thing I wouldn't like about the maybelline one is that it's a little bit bigger (I really like the fact the roller lash is so thin) but I could probably work with it!
ReplyDeleteJessie | Taylor Mayed
Yeah it is bigger, the only time I find that annoying though is when I'm doing my bottom lashes so it's not a deal-breaker as such xx
DeleteI was really looking forward to this post as I love saving money whenever I can. :) I wasn't wowed by Roller Lash but I do really like the brush and how it separates the lashes really well and keeps my curl all day. Also like that it looks quite natural. From the photos I can tell the Maybelline one does seem to add more volume, which is nice. But looks slightly clumpier? I will probably try the Lash Sensational mascara once my sample of the Roller Lash ends. x
ReplyDeleteRenata | Speaking Beauty UK
I didn't really find it clumpy but it added a lot more volume than Roller Lash. I'm usually all for length and separation but I think the Maybelline is something special! xx
DeleteMaybelline makes some of the best mascaras, I'm always super impressed with them! This mascara looks right up my alley, I'll definitely be checking it out if/when it comes to Australia.
ReplyDeletehttp://themakeup-gypsy.blogspot.com.au/
They really do, so affordable and great :) xx
DeleteThis is such a great post Jasmine. I've just purchased the Elle mag with the freebie Benefit Rollerlash and love it... but it's great to know there's a much more budget option (I'm not down for paying nearly £20 for a mascara just yet)

Thank you :) it's great that we can get the sample for £4 but it's also great to know there's a cheaper alternative! xx
DeleteFab post sweetie, I actually prefer the look of the Maybelline mascara on your eyes :) I really want to pick the Maybelline was up but having to wait until I use one up first - one in one out scheme as I have too many hehe.
ReplyDeleteCharlee | Charmedcharlee.com
That's a good shout tbh as they just dry up so quickly! xx
DeleteLove this post.Great dupe. I bought the Maybelline Mascara after reading this post and have to say I completely agree. I think I slightly more prefer the Maybelline, definitely going for the cheaper version. x
ReplyDeletewww.peepintosklife.blogspot.co.uk
Me too! xx
DeleteGreat comparison Jasmine :) Looking at both your after pictures, the finished result is pretty much the same so I would absolutely save on this product too! :) xx
ReplyDeleteBrenda BusyBee
Glad to have helped :D xx
DeleteOhhh, will definitely try the Maybelline one! I can't justify spending THAT much on a mascara :P
ReplyDeleteYuen @ The Craziest Paradigm - fashion, beauty & lifestyle
Yeah, it does feel a little excessive given the great affordable lines out there and how quickly mascaras are done! xx
DeleteI love my mini roller lash, but your right I've tried just as good cheaper mascaras. KBxx
ReplyDeletehttp://beautybykaris.com
Yeah there really are some great cheaper alternatives out there! xx
DeleteThis is such a good review! I did not kwno that the wands were so similar!!
