Save or Spend? || Benefit Roller Lash Mascara vs. Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I'm sure you're sick of reading reviews of Benefit's new Roller Lash Mascara (you can get a free sample in this month's Elle, if you didn't already know) so I thought I'd do a comparison with a potential dupe!

The wands on both mascaras are very similar however there's a big difference: a full-size Roller Lash will be retailing for £19.50 whereas Lash Sensational will cost you £5.99 (buy here). But are the two similar once applied?

So here's a before and after using the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

And then before and after using the Maybelline Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara.

The wands are very similar; the Benefit wand is a little thinner but I didn't find applying one or the other any more difficult to work with. I love how you can comb the product through your lashes, curving  upwards. I find Lash Sensational a little more thick in formula and I feel it gives more volume whereas the Benefit separates them slightly more. Both of them add an amazing amount of curl; which is the main selling point of the Roller Lash. I'll admit it: I NEVER curl my lashes. Even if I finish getting ready for a night out early I'd rather go and get myself a drink than sit with an eyelash curler! Therefore both of these products are amazing because you can get that curl without adding an extra step to your routine and it'll stay there all day.

Do I like Roller Lash? Yes. Would I spend £19.50 on it? Hmmm...I'm not quite sure. Maybe when I'm next in duty free I'll pick it up but I do think I prefer They're Real, so if I'm going to pay £20 for a Benefit mascara it'll be that one. So for now I'll be sticking to Lash Sensational! I'd definitely recommend grabbing a copy of Elle for £4 as it's worth giving it a go for yourself but for me right now I'm going to say Save.

Have you tried either of these mascaras? Will you be buying a full-sized Roller Lash?

  1. I agree with you, I prefer 'They're Real' I think the Roller Lash one was made for people who thought 'They're Real' was a bit too clumpy? The more clumps the better for me haha (well not really but I like quite a thick dramatic lash!)

The Maybelline one looks really good, didn't realise how similar the wands were!

  2. I must admit I do like the Roller Lash one but I don't think that I would pay that much for it. I will though be going out to buy the cheaper one as that looks just the same for a 1-4 of the price.

  4. Oh my! I've been wondering whether there are any dupes out there! I need to try this now and see how it compares because I'm loving Roller Lash at the moment!

  5. I still haven't tried my sample from Elle, it's been sitting in my makeup drawer untouched but hopefully I will use it soon to see what all the hype is about. I'm glad to hear the Maybelline one is a good dupe as I am the same as you only buy expensive mascaras in Duty Free x

  7. Personally think the lash sensation one looks better on you :)
I'm gutted that non waterproof mascaras do not work for me~
But I do have to admit that roller lash wand is thinner and can grab onto lashes better.

Interesting review and comparason! Have a great day

  8. I find that with my Roller Lash sample it is getting everywhere on my face and is very wet, much prefer Babydoll from YSL as a high end or Benefit's Bad Gal!

  11. This is a great comparison, I've been hearing so much about both of these as the wand really does seem similar. I tried the Roller Lash for the first time yesterday and really liked how thin the brush was, it's good to read the brush of the Lash Sensational is still good to work with though - I'll definitely be purhcasing it :)

  14. I think your lashes actually look better with the maybelline, but that might just be me. I would always go for separation over volume, but I'm not sure the preference is worth the extra money!

  15. I've been tempted to give the Maybelline one a try. I like the Benefit one, but they are pretty expensive and I never find them to be amazing.

  16. I love the idea of these mascaras, mainly as I have an irrational fear of eyelash curlers! I think I'd try the maybelline one over the benefit though- they do look slightly better with that one on :)

  17. oooooh I'm so glad I read this!
I really like the roller lash and I'd seen the Maybelline mascara on the shelf but I didn't take a close look at it, I didn't know it was a potential dupe! It looks great so I'm going to be trying this out for sure!

  19. Ah I'm so glad there's a dupe for this mascara! I've not tried the Roller Lash yet, but seeing everyone's pictures is making me really tempted to try it. I may pick up Elle for the sample, but I think that if I want a full size product I'll go for the Maybelline one! Considering the difference in price, there's really no visible difference.

  22. I really like the Roller lash so far and so this is a great comparison. I think the only thing I wouldn't like about the maybelline one is that it's a little bit bigger (I really like the fact the roller lash is so thin) but I could probably work with it!

    1. Yeah it is bigger, the only time I find that annoying though is when I'm doing my bottom lashes so it's not a deal-breaker as such xx

  23. I was really looking forward to this post as I love saving money whenever I can. :) I wasn't wowed by Roller Lash but I do really like the brush and how it separates the lashes really well and keeps my curl all day. Also like that it looks quite natural. From the photos I can tell the Maybelline one does seem to add more volume, which is nice. But looks slightly clumpier? I will probably try the Lash Sensational mascara once my sample of the Roller Lash ends. x

    1. I didn't really find it clumpy but it added a lot more volume than Roller Lash. I'm usually all for length and separation but I think the Maybelline is something special! xx
