May Favourites

Another month, another favourites list! There have been some real winners this month so I struggled to narrow it down (tough decisions were made). I don't feel like I've spent an awful lot as I was originally going on holiday at the end of this month (we've now re-booked to July) so I was saving a little bit for duty free, however I have a good mix of drugstore and high-end this month.

Bronzer has been a bit of a revelation for me lately (thank you to the ladies on Twitter who told me how to use it!) I didn't really 'get' shimmer bronzers to be honest, however I've picked up a couple this month and I've realised that for my skin tone they work really well in place of a highlighter to get the summer glow. Firstly I grabbed the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Bronzer in Golden Days (£4) in the Superdrug 3 for 2. It's an absolutely beautiful golden shade (no kidding!) which gives a lovely sheen-y look as opposed to overloading your face with glitter. I love how natural it is on me and I can see it being a part of my everyday summer makeup routine. It reminds me a lot of the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powders. Another option is the Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick in Gold Bronze (£4.99, post and swatches here), which is of course very similar to the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks. This is a little dewier but another gorgeous option for summer. I never really find alleged 2-in-1 products that work well for both uses but this is also gorgeous on the eyes if you use the shades individually. You can't go wrong with either of these budget bronzers.

I could not be more obsessed  if I tried with the Lorac Unzipped Eyeshadow Palette ($42, post and swatches here). I've been trying to get hold of it for ages so when it came in stock on Amazon US, I couldn't resist snapping it up (it seems to come in and out of stock constantly so keep an eye out if you want it). Make sure you check out my post for all the shipping and duty information! I use every single shade in this palette and the copper-bronze-rose-gold look has become my go-to. The texture and quality of these shades are up there as some of the best in my entire collection. I'm struggling to use anything else but this at the moment as it's just so amazing. I'm going to shut up about it now... Another makeup favourite has been the Bobbi Brown Lip Colour in Nude (£19.50, post and swatch here). I love all the lipsticks I picked up in that haul however this has been my most reached-for and they're all similar toned so I didn't want to overload this post with much of a muchness. It's a beautiful, creamy formula that glides onto the lips and has a bit of a sheen to it. The shade is this lovely nude-brown caramel rosy tone and is just the sort of thing I love. This month I've been much more into my nails and my go-to shade has been Essie Eternal Optimist (£7.99), which you can see in action here. Thank you to Laura at the Beauty Ideal for posting on this as it's now my perfect everyday pinky-nude and I hadn't even given it a second glance before seeing her review!

I've had a few new brushes this month but I've picked out my two absolute favourites. First is the Crown C406 Large Duo Fibre Brush* (£9.29, post here). I absolutely love this for applying highlighter and bronzer subtly as it doesn't pick up too much product and blends it in really naturally with my base. My second favourite is the Real Tecnhiques Contour Brush (£21.99 as part of the Sculpting Set, post here, or £9.99 alone). The shape, the tightly-packed bristles, just everything about this brush makes it really easy to get a natural contour. I love teaming this with the Barry M Contour Kit for fuss-free definition.

Finally I have a few skincare favourites. I've really loved the Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Cleansing Milk* (£8, post here). I love products that melt away my makeup as it's the most thorough, quick and easy method in my experience. This is a little different to most of these products as it doesn't have any slip to it; it does the job whilst remaining in a milky lotion form. I also love how soft my skin is afterwards. A little more effective but definitely an oil-based version is the Superdrug Vitamin E Dual Phase Cleansing Oil (£2.99). I've been trialling a few bits from this range I'll be posting on soon but this has been the standout so far. I just can't believe how quickly and effectively this removes makeup and also how gentle it is on the eyes. I can't recommend this enough, especially if you're on a tight budget as I think this will really change your skincare routine. Lastly I've been loving the Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Body Sorbet (£8). For starters the fragrance is great and I definitely need a few more bits from this range; it's just so refreshing! Secondly, the formula of this is unlike anything I've ever tried as a body moisturiser. It's a thick but very clean sort of paste (even that doesn't seem to quite describe it properly) that feels really cooling on the skin whilst hydrating it (so perfect for summer!)

What do you think of my favourites?

  10. I agree with you on The Body Shop's body sorbets, I'm currently using the Virgin Mokito range and it's such an odd texture, almost feels like a primer for the body as it just smooths out the skin. I love it for summer though as it's perfect amount of hydration and super cooling like you said x

  17. I didn't know you could buy the contouring brush separately? That's fab as I don't really have any need for the other brushes in the sculpting set, although I'm gutted I didn't have enough time to pick them up in Superdrug when they were on offer!

  21. Ohh, The MR Bronzer looks great, I have the Rock on World, and it is just sooo pigmented and glittery it is difficult to get a sublte bronzer with. So I will certainly have a look for the Golden Days. And the LORAC Palette...I WILL look into this.
