As we head back into autumn, I thought I'd share some of the lip shades I'll be transitioning to for the colder months (moving away from my spring / summer peachy orange tones)...

First up, we have the Vieve Modern Matte Lipstick in Power Suit | £23. Honestly, these days; I'd almost alway prefer a moisturising lip over a matte formula, but this lipstick is so creamy and non-drying that I reach for it without a second thought. As long as my lips are a normal level of moisturised, this glide right on (no need to prep or exfoliate the lips, or anything like that) with opaque colour payoff. It doesn't settle, look dry or emphasise any slightly drier patches of my lips; it's easy to apply, doesn't skip over the lips and doesn't have a dry look. The colour is a beautiful autumnal warm, redish-toned brown; for me, it's a little darker than my skin tone so it pulls kind of like a nude+, but I think it would be a dark 90s brown for fairer skin or a brown-toned nude on deeper skin. I think this is going to suit a lot of people and it's a beautiful formula that lasts on my lips and is perfect for an evening out.

Next, I have a classic with Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Black Honey | £24.50. This is a sheer lipstick formula that reminds me a little of a lip balm without the glossy finish. It's still hydrating but doesn't have an overt shine (though you can apply it alongside a good lip balm to create that effect). It's low-maintenance and easy to apply; it looks like a lip stain, which also means it fades evenly and doesn't transfer so you don't have to worry about reapplying this constantly. It's a minimal-effort way to wear a bolder colour and the sheerer lip makes this shade so wearable. You can really customise the colour payoff and apply one swipe for a sheer finish or build it into something more pigmented and bold. The shade itself is a dark plum with a cool, bluish undertone that somehow seems to suit everyone who tries it on!

I almost never reach for matte liquid lipsticks these days but I still have a couple of shades in this formula (because it's that good) and my autumn pick is the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Icon | £22. This is as non-drying as a true matte liquid lipstick gets; I mean, I wouldn't put it on if my lips were feeling a little dehydrated, but usually all you need is a bit of lip balm and this doesn't cling, peel or look dry or cracked. It obviously has great staying power and for a liquid lip it's pretty easy to apply and is low-effort and wearable. This shade is a kind of warm dusky pink, which is gorgeous for a night out when you want to make a bit more of an impact.

I also have a lip oil, which comes in an autumnal shade but offers a hydrating, low-maintenance option for dry lips in winter. The Clarins Comfort Lip Oil in Chocolate | £25 | is a formula I love all year round; during the summer I've been going for the warmer, peachier tones in the line, but Chocolate is autumn / winter perfection. This is a moisturising lip oil that gives a glossy, dimensional finish and provides a light wash of colour that you could honestly apply with your eyes closed! Chocolate is a warm purple-toned brown that's perfect for this time of year.

Finally, I love the Victoria Beckham Beauty Posh Lipstick in Fringe | £37. This is kind of similar to the Clinique formula with its balmy-feel texture but the pigmentation is definitely stronger with this from the very first swipe. It has a soft sheen to it, which does transfer a little but it's not a bit deal and it fades evenly without any mess. It's great if you want a dark lip without the high-maintenance feel of a matte colour. It feels moisturising for cold weather lips and I love this shade; it's really unique within my collection and is kind of a true brown, neither overly warm nor cool in its undertone. It's very much that classic 90s brown that's going to look different depending on your complexion but has the potential to look wonderful on a lot of different people.

What do you like in an autumn lip colour?
