SCULPTED BY AIMEE HYDRATINT | WORTH THE HYPE?

Today we're talking one of the bestselling complexion products at Boots: the Sculpted by Aimee HydraTint Hydrating Tinted Serum* (Shade 6) | £23. This makeup brand was founded by Irish makeup artist Aimee Connolly, and it hasn't even been in the UK that long but it's already making waves. I'm a tinted complexion product girl through and through; I like a formula that makes my skin glow, really meshes with my natural complexion and lets it shine through but just gives me that little bit of help! So, let's see if this formula can join the ranks of my favourites...

First things first; this product comes in 17 shades from 0.5 through to 9.5 and I wear Shade 6 which seems about right. In terms of match, it's pretty decent; I could have gone for a touch of a warmer undertone (this is pretty neutral) but honestly, with a sheer base it's not really a perceptible difference so I don't mind. The fact there isn't a cool, neutral and warm undertone option for each shade step might be a little less forgiving on others though. In terms of the formulation, this does contain SPF 20, but that's pretty low and you're not going to apply enough of a makeup product to get the full benefit, so I wouldn't rely on this at all as your main source of sun protection.

When it comes to added skincare extras, this serum tint is formulated with centella asiatica (cica), a plant extract often found in Korean skincare products that's known for its hydrating and skin-soothing properties. It also contains glycerin, a very common but very effective humectant, pulling hydration into the skin, plus a hyaluronic acid derivative (the more famous humectant). There are also ceramides in the mix, which are a fundamental component of your skin's lipid barrier, keeping it healthy, hydrated and calm. These are really great ingredients for just about any skin type, so I love that they're included in this formula to give those serum-like benefits.

This product is what I'd call 'light but buildable' coverage; you can apply a little for a natural look or build up the coverage (to something that's light-to-medium), and it won't look heavy or cakey and it doesn't settle on and emphasise my fine lines when I do this. I like that it's customisable so I can build the coverage in the areas where I feel I need a little more and then leave everything else pretty sheer for a natural look. This formula makes my skin tone look more even, knocks out a bit of redness I tend to get and just gives it a healthy, hydrated look without being shiny. If you want a light base that's going to hydrate without having that surface dewiness: this is for you. It also lasts well on my skin, it doesn't sink into fine lines throughout the day or break apart and wear off on parts of my face that experience a little more oiliness or that I tend to touch more.

All that's left to discuss is: how does this product measure up against my existing favourites? Look, I still think my Trinny London BFF and Nars Pure Radiant beat out this product (both reviewed here), but they're both significantly more expensive and aren't available at most people's local Boots. This is just £22 and is pretty accessible, so I can completely see why it's become a bestseller; it does exactly what you want a serum tint to do; gives coverage without covering and boosts your skin's radiance without leaving you looking like the tin man!
