New Skincare Discoveries | Haul & Review

I recently received a box of skincare products from BeautyBay, which is just such a good way for me to discover new products and brands I wouldn't have otherwise known about. Now I've had a good amount of time to test them down, I'm going to report back on how I got on with them today.

Cellex-C Hydra 5 B Complex* | £44 | This is essentially a serum packed full of hyaluronic acid (that skincare wonder-ingredient for hydration). It has a watery, lightweight texture so does absorb quickly into the skin, though it does leave it very slightly tacky. You can use this in the morning or evening (or both). I find it leaves my skin feeling softer and looking healthier. It really helps to quench the thirst of my skin, which alway seems to be lacking in moisture when the weather is cold. Overall I would recommend this if you want something hydrating but not too rich.

Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream* | £29.75 | This night cream has quite a rich, moisturising formula and whilst it's not greasy on my combination skin at this time of year, it might be too much if you're oily. I love the scent and all Antipodes products are made with natural ingredients. It doesn't smother my skin or break me out so it's a great one for overnight when I'm not worrying about my face looking a bit shiny. It's perfect if your skin is looking dry or flaky because by morning, it leaves my skin so soft and moisturised.

Yes To Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes* | £5 | These face wipes are literally black! Ok, let's rewind a bit; I know some people think face wipes are the root of all evil but they have their place in my routine (namely, when I'm crawling into bed at a ridiculous hour and a bit of wiping whilst I'm in bed seems better than nothing!) I'm always on the lookout for a product that will do the job without being rough on my skin. I actually find that the colour makes it hard to see what I've actually removed (especially with dark eye makeup), so it's difficult to know when I'm done. For me, they work well enough but it's all a bit gimmicky and I do prefer the normal Tomato Face Wipes

Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm* | £68 for a set | This sadly isn't available individually but you can get it in the Discovery set with a ton of other products from this brand. This is a nice, luxurious balm cleanser that is perfect for removing makeup. It's effective, feels nice and nourishing on the skin and is gentle on my sensitive eyes.

Colleen Rothschild Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum* | £53.50 for the full size | This is an AHA-based serum, and whilst I love my acid toners and masks, I don't think I've ever tried one in this form. I definitely want to keep using this until it runs out but so far, so good; it gives my skin a smooth, even texture and helps it look clearer and more radiant.

Sister & Co. Coconut Oil* | £6.95 | This is an absolute bargain and is one of those multi-use beauty products that you can also use in the kitchen. I tried this on my hair and it was just too much! I didn't use a lot and only put it on the ends before rinsing it but it left my hair so greasy. However on the skin: it's amazing. It's gentle, smells amazing and melts all of my makeup right away. The only annoyance is that it's obviously a solid formula so you kind of have to get a chunk and warm it between your fingers before you can use it.

Original & Mineral 7 Day Miracle Moisture Masque* | £24 | I actually got a little sample of this from somewhere and really liked it so I'm so pleased to have got the full-sized bottle. It's a mask so I use it instead of conditioner (or after using a cleansing conditioner) on the lengths and ends of my hair. I leave it a few minutes and then rinse. It makes my hair so soft, shiny, silky and healthy-looking. It's so good and doesn't leave my hair looking greasy or lead to product build-up. If you have dry or damaged hair I think you should definitely give this a go.

Body Blendz Coffee Scrub* | £9.98 | I've tried a few coffee body scrubs now and this is actually the most finely-milled one I've come across, which I quite like because I find it means I waste less product and I can really get in there and remove any dead skin. I would say my only drawback is that I don't find it very nourishing; though it leaves my skin smooth, it would be nice if there were some oils in there to soften it too.

Nugg Intense Lip Mask* | £9.49 | I was actually really surprised at the texture of this because I expected it to be quite thick and heavy but it's not at all and doesn't look white on the lips so you can even wear it during the day. I wasn't sure how effective it could be given that it didn't feel that substantial but I was impressed the first time I used this as my lips were really nice and soft. I was also able to wear a very matte liquid lipstick the next day without needing a scrub. Whilst I don't think it has replaced my Nuxe Reve de Miel, it's one I'd recommend if you want something less thick.

Have you tried any of these products or brands? Which do you want to give a go?

  7. I like the idea behind the charcoal facial wipes but as you say, they seem a little gimmicky and rather impractical.

  8. I have yet to try any of these so what a great read. The charcoal wipes is really cool but I can totally see what you mean by not knowing how much and where the makeup you've remove because of colour.
