Another US Beauty Haul, Review & Swatches (+ UK Shipping)

There's just something about not being able to just pop down to Superdrug to get your hands on product which makes it that much more appealing! You may be thinking 'isn't she going to New York in a couple of months - why is she doing this?' I would advise you, in response, not to try and apply logic to any situation involving me and makeup... This was going to be my last haul before the trip but there's actually a KIKO one coming up too as they had an offer that was too good to miss! As always I've linked or included all of the details on how I got my hands on the products below so please make sure you read all the information. Let's get on with it...

ColourPop

I've done a couple of these hauls now as I'm a huge fan of ColourPop - their products are so affordable and they have such a wide range of products. Their cheek and eye products are all cream-based, which is also pretty unique.

KaePop Eyeshadow Set | $20

I have to admit that I'm not really familiar with Karreuche Tran/her work (other than I think she used to go out Chris Brown?) but this collection appealed to me because I have a fairly similar skin tone to her and obviously she designed the shades around what would suit her. The eyeshadow set was an instant 'yes, gotta have that!' and I wasn't disappointed! You get a gorgeous beige shimmer - Sunset Blvd (Pearlised), Wilshire (Matte) - a mid-toned peachy-brown, Crenshaw (Matte) - a warm brown and Beverly (Matte) - a deep plum. I love the neutrals and that pop of matte colour in there. I like Sunset Blvd as a highlight (or all over the lid on a 'no makeup' makeup day), Wilshire as a lid shade, Crenshaw in the crease and Beverly just on the outer part of the crease. I love this look because at first glance it looks like your standard everyday nude eye but then you catch that little bit of colour which takes it to the next level.

I really love the spongy cream formula of ColourPop products as it's so unique. I rarely bother with an very matte-based matte look if I'm using powder products because all that blending puts me off. However I can apply these in a few seconds with my Zoeva Bamboo brushes (which are all synthetic). As I've mentioned previously; with both their Matte cheek and eye products, ColourPop's formula still contains a tiny bit of sheen. They're pigmented, bold and wear really well on me. It's just the perfect balance of colours too, so if you're new to the brand and a bit overwhelmed with the selection then I definitely recommend picking up a little set of four like this (Kathleen Lights also has a couple).

ColourPop Cheek Shock Blush in Flush'd | $8

When I find cream blusher products that work for me I tend to go a bit crazy. This is my third from ColourPop and I love the gorgeous matte, deep, vibrant peach shade. It has that spongy texture too so think halfway between a mousse and a cream. This is quite a bold colour but I love it and it'll be perfect for summer. I tap a small amount onto my cheeks with my fingers for a natural flush of colour that lasts me all day.

ColourPop Cheek Shock Bronzer in Bronze Me | $8

I didn't order the highlighter from the collection as I already have one from ColourPop and was conscious of not wanting my order to be so big that I'd get import charges. The cream bronzer really did intrigue me though so I snapped it up. It's a gorgeous warm brown matte bronzer with a slight gold sheen. You can apply this with your fingers or blend out with a synthetic brush. It's honestly so easy to use and it looks incredibly natural on the skin. I think this is one I'm going to really love! It also doesn't go patchy on me because, as I mentioned, ColourPop's cream cheek formula isn't greasy at all.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Frick N' Frack | $5

There were a few of these I had my eye on but, again aware of the price of my order racking up, I just went for the one: Frick N' Frack (Dopey and potentially Echo Park are on my wish list too). On first impressions I do much prefer the formula to the Ultra Matte as it's far less drying and more comfortable. I wouldn't say it's as long-lasting but that's the price you pay for a creamier liquid lipstick formula! It's slightly messy to apply perfectly and the creamier formula means it can transfer slightly but neither are a huge issue. It's a gorgeous deep rosy warm brown shade I'm loving.

ColourPop Shipping: I use Shipito to order ColourPop. People always seem  to think it's more effort than it is, but it's really not a big deal - once you've done it once you can do it in a couple of minutes. You can find the details here. One thing that is different is that I was annoyingly hit with a £13 customs and processing fee this time. I think there's some sort of magic number I exceeded as in my previous orders I've spent $30-ish dollars and this time it was just over $40, so I won't be spending this much again! Or maybe HM Revenue & Customs/Royal Mail are just cracking down more on this sort of stuff. (Though I must admit: it was totally worth it...)

Makeup Geek

I won't bang on too much as I have an epic post on my Makeup Geek stash here but I think they're just some of the best eyeshadows out there and the shade range really has something for everyone at such affordable prices.

Makeup Geek Travel Vault | £11.50

I mention a lot that I travel for overnight stays or weekends quite a bit with work or seeing my boyfriend or mates (less so at the moment though because of exams!) This is the perfect more-attractive alternative to the Z Palette for travelling. It's £2.50 more but there's more space for products despite it being more compact. It's so much more sleek, compact and secure, along with being the perfect size. It's actually virtually identical in size and design as the Stila Eyes Are the Window palette. You can fit in two Makeup Geek cheek pans and two MUG/MAC eyeshadows (like this) or around 12 eyeshadows  (like this). Plus you get a nice big mirror! I've not photographed the exterior of it as it's super-reflective but it has the Makeup Geek logo on it and is a sort of steel shade. I also recently ordered a huge Makeup Forever magnetic palette too so if you fancy it I can do a comparison post of the three options (I wasn't sure if that would be a bit boring for a post? Let me know!)

Makeup Geek Blush Pan in Spellbound | £7.95

After loving the contour powders I decided I needed to explore more of Makeup Geek's cheek products. I hadn't ordered one before as, in all honesty, I wasn't blown away by the shade selection. Spellbound is a nice matte pinky-mauve colour. I do really like the formula - it applies and wears evenly. The pigmentation is good but nothing too over the top. The texture is so nice and easy to work with. The shade is nothing that special to me but I am a fan of the formula so I will keep an eye out for new shades in this range. More than anything it's just nice to have a blusher shade I can pop into a magnetic palette that's going to go with just about any look.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Pans in Creme Brûlée & Peach Smoothie | £4.95 each

These were definitely Jaclyn Hill-inspired purchases as they're two of her favourites. Makeup Geek has one of my most-loved matte formulas of any brand; the shadows are just so creamy, pigmented and long-lasting. These are no exception, though I feel the shades themselves don't show as nicely on me as they do on fairer skin as a crease colour. Creme Brûlée is a light-medium brown that's not too warm or too cool and Peach Smoothie is a pastel peach shade. I do like to blend them in as transition shades and sometimes I combine the two and it does give a really dimensional look to my eyeshadow.

Makeup Geek Shipping: Makeup Geek is stocked by UK site BeautyBay

Morphe Brushes

I've mentioned previously that I've had decidedly mixed experiences with Morphe Brushes but they really are onto a winner with their (sadly limited edition) Elite range.

E28 Round Blender Brush | £5.50

This has become one of my favourite brushes to apply a crease shade with. It just blends everything out so nicely and softly! The bristles are synthetic and very soft and the tapered shape means this fits perfectly into the eye socket.

E3 Precision Pointed Powder Brush | £13.50

Another purchase Jaclyn Hill has induced! I'm not 100% sure what to do with this brush in all honesty; it's a great size, the bristles are soft and synthetic and I like that it's tapered. However it's almost as though it can be used for so many things that I'm not sure where it fits into my routine. I tried it for blusher and I liked it but I prefer my Real Techniques Blush Brush, it works nicely for bronzer and I'm currently using it for face powder and to set my under-eye concealer. I'm liking it well enough for face powder but I think I might give it a wash and see how it applies my foundation - I'll let you know when I find a proper use for it!

Vitamin Grocer

It's so frustrating that many brands we can get in the UK have very limited range on offer over here in comparison to the US. I decided to put my theory to the test and see if the US drugstore shade ranges would have something that catered to me.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation | £14.32

I honestly disliked the Infallible Matte strongly when I picked it up on its UK release. The shade range was so pitiful I couldn't even pick up a few shades and play mixologist. The shade I did get (30 Honey) was awful; it was so pink-toned it just made me look dead! It sat so unnaturally on my skin and it makes me feel a bit sick just thinking about that foundation... However I'd heard such amazing things I was prepared to give it another chance. I picked up 104 Golden Beige after a bit of Googling.

When I first squeezed some of it out I was pretty sure it was the wrong shade as it looked slightly too light - I was very confused as to why so many people recommended it for NC40 skin. However I wanted to be able to write up my experience with it anyway so begrudgingly applied it (I suffer for my blog!) It turns out this foundation dries down around a shade darker than it looks when it's 'wet' (so watch out for that, though I'm not sure if it's just my shade). This turned out to be pretty much spot on in terms of colour (which makes me even more frustrated at the UK drugstore - the shades are out there, they just don't give them to us) and I think the formula is a little different. It's hard to do a comparison as the awful shade match in the UK version throws things off a lot. However I can say this gives that gorgeous demi-matte, non-drying, shine-free finish. It's so long-lasting and gives a good medium-full coverage. I would say it's a pretty good dupe of Nars Sheer Glow and I will be stocking up on this in New York.

I'd heard such good things about this and like many Maybelline products this isn't available at all in the UK so I popped it in my basket. I chose the shade 310 Sun Beige which is a pretty good match but possibly more of a summer shade for me - if there was such a shade as NC41 then this would be it!

I have to say I wasn't as impressed by the formula as a lot seem to have been - maybe it's just because I've moved away from 100% matte formulas these days, however I just found this a tad drying. It was nothing major but there were a few drier patches it didn't seem to sit quite right on and I did find it was a bit of an effort to apply this nicely. When it's on it looks very flawless and I do actually feel it doesn't settle into pores as badly as some other foundations do. It also lasts pretty well on my skin. It's not without it's downsides but it has potential so I'm going to keep trying with this one. It's quite possible I'll prefer it for those summer evenings, as I feel like I'm still in 'winter skin' mode right now and things are much drier than usual.

Maybelline Matte and Poreless Powder | £8.19

I picked this up to bring my order to the free shipping threshold as I'd seen a few US beauty gurus recommend it on YouTube. Again I opted for 310 Sun Beige. I've been using this on my t-zone pretty much every day and I really like it. It keeps my skin matte without being heavy, powdery or cakey. In fact it's pretty much traceless despite giving a bit of coverage too. All-in-all though I do think it's pretty similar in formula to the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder so whilst I will use this and enjoy it until it's done, I probably wouldn't specifically order this powder from the US again. So if you're in the States: go for it because it's a great powder. If you're in the UK it's probably not worth the effort as we have something very similar that's much more accessible.

Vitamin Grocer Shipping: I was a little confused that this site was called 'Vitamin Grocer UK' but when I went to the Shipping page it seems to be US-based. I had a 15% off my first order code (bringing the prices down to pretty much the same as I'd pay in Boots or Superdrug) and it was free shipping as I spent over $20. I didn't get any customs charges but it's a possibility if you're placing a large order. This took around a week to arrive, which isn't bad at all - I think I've found my new place to get US drugstore products!

NYX

I'm a big fan of NYX - their products are so affordable, high-quality and now much more accessible to those of us in the UK. Umm Baby's beauty informant network clocked a few new Soft Matte Lip Cream shades so I had to snap one up as a huge fan of the range. The Lip Lingerie line also landed in the UK so, as a liquid lip and nude lip lover, obviously I had to get a few!

NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks in 04 Ruffle Trim, 06 Push Up, 08 Bedtime Flirt | £6.50 each

Although I loved the shades of these, I only ordered three to start with as I'd heard a few mixed things. Personally I don't find these any more drying than most liquid lipsticks but more so than the Soft Matte range NYX do, though the flip side is that they last longer. For me - the main negative is that so many of the shades are really similar and the Boots website swatches are always rubbish. If I'd seen these in store I wouldn't have picked up all three of these colours because they are just so similar (maybe I should've waited!) They're all essentially warm brown-toned nude shades. There's really not that much between them but my favourite is Ruffle Trim which is the deepest and warmest of the bunch. Push Up and Bedtime Flirt are both reminiscent of MAC's famous Velvet Teddy with Push Up being slightly more pink and Bedtime Flirt being a tad cooler. You really don't need both though!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Rome | £5.50

This is a gorgeous deep mauve with a hint of berry. I love the Soft Matte formula as it's so creamy and non-drying and this is no exception. I'd say I do have to reapply this after a few hours as I've noticed the deeper and bolder shades in this line don't wear as well as the nudes (or maybe it's just more obvious when they do start to fade). However I still really like this; it's a gorgeous evening shade for me.

NYX Cosmetics: NYX Cosmetics is stocked by ASOS, Feel Unique, Selfridges and Boots (the latter two both have it in some stores too, though these new releases aren't in my local Boots yet)

Anastasia Beverly Hills

I'm sure this brand needs no introduction! It tends to take a while for Anastasia's products to make their way over to the UK and there are still a few super-hyped products of her's (the single eyeshadows and liquid lipsticks spring to mind) still aren't available.

Glow Kit in That Glow | £39

I know I didn't need this but the minute I saw the swatches the rabid beauty addict in me was roused and I'd ordered it within 24 hours! That Glow was the natural choice for me out of the two Glow Kits with it's golden, bronze and champagne tones. I am a huge fan of the limited edition So Hollywood Illuminator so expectations were high for this. Another reason I was excited to pick this up is that the pans are removable so I can just pop this into my Travel Vault when I go away. The formula of these is definitely different to the illuminators; it's more shimmery and a little sheerer (neither of which are a negative). They look so pretty, natural and dewy on the skin. Plus they aren't all glitter.

Sunburst is a vibrant (almost neon!) yellow gold and Golden Bronze is as the name might suggest. Bubbly and Dripping in Gold are pretty similar champagne shades, though (I'm not sure if the camera really picks it up) Bubby is slightly more pinky-peach in tone whereas Dripping in Gold is, of course, more gold-toned. Dripping in Gold is my absolute favourite of the bunch so far.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Shipping: As I said, not all of her products are available in the UK but BeautyBay and Cult Beauty both have some of Anastasia's lines. I ordered this from BeautyBay, purely because shipping was free and I'd have had to spend more or pay for it through Cult Beauty.

  1. I have the Maybelline Matte Foundation and love it, I use a moisturiser, primer water and normal primer before it and find it works well. I also got the US Infallible one as I hated the UK one too and I much prefer the US version! I can't wait to go to NY in November!!

  3. I completely understand you, just received my first ColourPop order a week ago and I already want to do another one! I also thought of trying their bronzers so this is very helpful to me. Frick N Frack looks gorgeous but, overall, I was quite disappointed by the shade selection of the Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks, so, luckily for my wallet, I don't think I will try those ones!

  4. I really need to make use of the fact that my grandparents go to the States a couple of times a year more than I do so that I can stock up on some of these gorgeous products, but I don't trust them not to get the wrong things. I should try to send thing to wherever they're staying, shouldn't I? I bought the L'Oreal foundation at the start of this week and I'm already loving it. But your eyeshadow collection in the dream - I need to invest in the Kaepop eyeshadows!

  5. I really struggle with the formula of the LOreal Infallible foundation, I wonder if the US version would work any better for me? At least I've got a reasonable shade match, though! It must be so frustrating for you knowing the shades are available but someone has decided we don't need them over here...

  7. I love you big US beauty hauls but they always make me want to order so much by the time I've got to the bottom! I am with you on the colourpop Shipto is a really good service and the products are so cheap anyway I kind of don't mind but the £13 customs charge makes its really pricey altogether (I think we were both unlucky!). Great haul as always and I can't wait to see what you pick up in New York :)

  41. You always orders lots of nice goodies from the US! I picked up Wilshire and Bronze Me from the ColourPop Karreuche collab, but still haven't used Bronze Me lol! I'm glad you like it :). I also want Dopey. I haven't tried any lippies from their Ultra Satin collection yet, but I need to ASAP. That sucks that the UK drugstore foundation shade range is limited compared to the US. I don't understand why they would do that!

  42. I love everything you picked up. I am already thinking about my next Colourpop order. I really want to try out their Ultra Satin Lips and the gel liners and gel pencils. I'd love to get my hands on something from Makeup Geek and Morphe as well. I wish they would sell the Anastasia Glow Kits in Sephora here in Australia.

  43. The magic number is $35 dollars, so I always try and keep my orders below $34 as they will sting you the minute it's over $35 which is so annoying! xx

  44. I really want to place a Colourpop order soon. I keep going onto their website, adding a few items into my basket and then umming and ahhing over swatches. I'm leaning most towards the lippie stix.

I have the ABH Glow Kit in Gleam and it's absolutely gorgeous but I'm pretty certain I'm going to invest in this one for the Summer- the swatches are just insane!

  47. Ohhhh lalala!! So many goodies to feast my eyes on and grab through the screen if I could!!!I still have not tried Colour Pop which is bizarre as I am sure I'm the only blogger who has not!! I think I definitely should try a few. I am loving the look of the Anastasia Glow Kit and I can't wait to hear more abut it. In fact everything just looks so gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing lovely...xx

  48. I always love reading your blog! It's so helpful that you go SO in depth about each product! I also hated the Loreal foundation at first and I've been wondering if I should give it another try. Did you by chance notice a chemical smell with the foundation? I HATE mine soley necause of this and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this? I'm thinking I got a bad batch! Anyway, love your blog!

    1. I'm really sorry but I can't think how to advise more than above! I guess the 310 would probably be suitable but I haven't tried 230 xx
