Valentine's Day Beauty Edit | For Staying In or Going Out

Love it or loathe it, Valentine's Day is definitely an excuse to treat yourself and get a bit dressed up in the process. Whether your having a night in, going on a date, getting some me-time or plan on going out with the girls; this is my Valentine's Day Edit.

Staying In

If you're staying in for V Day then it's the perfect excuse to have a bit of a pamper session and treat yourself. If you're going out, the weekend gives you some time to have some me-time beforehand.

Sadly most of the candles I got for Christmas were limited edition and no longer available, however this mini still seems to be around. It's absolutely beautiful and I definitely recommend getting it whilst you can. It's so warm and beautiful but tricky to describe with the scent blending Magnolia, Vanilla and Orange Blossom.

Lush always has some lovely Valentine's-themed products in for February and it's nice to have a long, hot bath on a cold, dark winter evening. Especially as it falls on a Sunday this year, you have plenty of time to wind down for the week ahead. Here I have the Lover Lamp, which is a gorgeous blend of vanilla, orange and chocolate. My dry skin feels much more moisturised after a bath using this and it fills my bathroom with the fragrance. It turns the bath water milky and disperses cute little hearts throughout the water.

When I'm in the bath I like to put on a face mask and flick through a magazine whilst it works its magic. This is a nice, quick (not to mention affordable) option. I leaves my skin feeling soft, clear and fresh. I also find the warming sensation so relaxing when I'm in the bath.

Seeing as we're treating ourselves here, of course the body wash has to be this luxury pick from Laura Mercier. It's so creamy and foamy, nourishing my skin and leaves behind the amazing deep, rich vanilla scent. To be honest, no shower gel is 'worth' in excess of £30 but this is such a lovely, indulgent product to get as a gift.

Sticking to a bit of a 'probably not worth the price but very nice to use' theme, after I've raised off a mask and patted my face dry, I like to go in with this cleansing gel. It smells lovely and feels so nice against my skin. I like to take my time and massage in the gel before rinsing it off. I feel like my skin looks fresher and feels softer when I use this.

Whether or not I'm going out, I like to paint my nails ready for the coming week when I have one of my little Sunday pamper evenings. I usually watch a TV show or film whilst I paint them and wait for them to dry. In honour of Valentine's Day I'd definitely recommend renting Trainwreck on Blinkbox as it's a hilarious anti-Rom Com and Amy Schumer's character in it is so relatable for a lot of single ladies! I love this deep, dusky, slightly plummy pink shade as a low-key way of doing the Valentine's Day theme.

Going Out

Whether you're going out with friends, family or a date, these are my top Valentine's-themed makeup picks. I personally think it's nice to have a little nod to the theme without it being too cliche so this is all really wearable.

Chloe Eau de Parfum* | £65 (50ml)

I start with a spritz of my current favourite perfume, which is so perfect for Valentine's Day. I really like floral fragrances with a twist and this one has notes of rose, powder, freesia, lychee, lily of the valley and peony. There's something really fresh about this so despite the classic nature of it, it doesn't feel dated at all and there's something really young about the scent. It's very pretty and feminine, as well as long-lasting, which makes it my perfect fragrance for Valentine's Day. You can find your perfect Valentine's Day fragrance through Debenhams here.

For an evening look if you're going out to dinner then I find Nars Sheer Glow to be perfect. It has a medium but build-able coverage meaning you can get that flawless base without looking like you've caked it on. I like to apply it with the Sephora Pro Airbrush #55 for that perfect but still natural finish. It gives a satin look to the face, meaning you won't have to worry about it not lasting or having to powder your t-zone every half an hour. My skin stays shine-free but still has an inner luminosity to it when I use this.

I'm a neutral-lover who tends to gravitate towards bronze and brown tones for the eyes so I think the Lorac Unzipped is the perfect compromise. The rose gold and copper tones are a nice nod the a romantic Valentine's Day look whilst still being within my comfort zone. I love the formula of Lorac eyeshadows as they're so creamy and pigmented. They apply beautifully and are so true to how they look in the pan. You can't get this one in the UK, though I do say in the post how I shipped it here, but I'm sure if you have the Urban Decay Naked 3 you could create a very similar look with it.

If you're more of a cream eyeshadow person then I really recommend La La from ColourPop (though sadly it's not available in the UK, my post does detail how I got it here). It's a gorgeous, dewy, super-shimmery rose gold shade that looks stunning all across the lid and is really long-wearing.

Another option for UK people (as oddly, all my rose gold and copper eyeshadows seem to be from US-only brands) is Makeup Geek. I recommend Shimma Shimma as a subtle, light beige shimmer to highlight the inner corner with Homecoming, a bronze shimmer with a hint of gold, that's pretty much the perfect lid colour if you don't want the more dramatic look of rose gold all over the lids. Grandstand is a stunning, dewy Foiled rose gold shade to wear on the outer part of the lid or all across it, depending on how eye-catching you want this to look. Finally, Frappe is a matte caramel brown for the crease.

When I want an intense, dewy highlight, this is the one I reach for. It's a stunning champagne colour with hints of gold and peach and the formula is just so creamy (making it a dream to apply). For a night out or special occasion, this is pretty much my #1 option.

Yes, the main reason I picked this over other rose-toned blushers is because of the name and appropriately romantic embossing on the product itself! Besides being very pretty, this is also a lovely formula. It's very soft in texture (so you do get a little fallout as a result) and applies amazingly well despite having a matte finish. The colour is a classic rose pink that you really can't go wrong with.

1 - Too Faced Baby Love, 2 - Milani Romantic Rose, 3 - Becca Champagne Pop, 4 - ColourPop La La, 5- Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma, 6 - Makeup Geek Frappe, 7 - Makeup Geek Homecoming, 8 - Makeup Geek Grandstand

If you want more of a mauve shade then another cute Valentine's-appropriate option is this Too Faced Love Flush Blush (not Hourglass Mood Exposure, for once!) It's so natural and the formula is really soft and easy to apply. It gives a subtle flush of colour and adds a bit more glow to the cheeks.

Winter nights out mean matte lips for me and matte lips mean I need a lip scrub! I always love the ones Lush do so this year I picked up the Kiss. It has a really sweet, sugary scent to it and removes the dead skin from my lips so it doesn't ruin the look of a matte lip. Plus it has little hearts in it, awww!

In terms of lips, if you're into a more mauvey-plum shade then Charming from the Balm's liquid lipstick range is perfect. The comfortable but long-wearing formula is really practical too as if you're going to be kissing anyone there won't be any transfer. These don't feel drying and I love the romantic mauve colour of this.

Or if you prefer a more traditional red-toned lip, my answer to that is the deep pinkish-mauve Bond Girl. I actually wore this last Valentine's Day and the formula is so creamy and comfortable to wear. It's a really sophisticated shade and just look at that packaging! Although not as long-wearing as a liquid lipstick, the square bullet shape makes this quick and easy to re-apply.

9 - Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl, 10 - The Balm Charming, 11-14 Lorac Unzipped

  20. I love the Chloe perfume but I prefer to wear it during Spring/Summer, but you're right that is perfect for a romantic date :) I was feeling spendy over the weekend and ordered the Oskia Cleansing Gel and I can't wait to try it, although I already know that it won't be exactly worth the price :) x

  24. I'm definitely staying in and keeping makeup to a minimum this V-day. Every single place is always so packed on Feb 14th and I can't stand the crowds haha ;) Home-cooked meal and cocktails with hubby is my favorite way to celebrate. I might have a little pamper session, too :) Lovely post!
