Winter Lip and Nail Lineup

Although Autumn is my favourite season in terms of makeup shades, I do also love the deeper lip shades and sparkly nail polishes you can rock during the Winter. Although a lot of these shades are out of my usual comfort zone, they really are lovely for the festive party season.

Lips

The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets really have been a revelation to me; late to the party, I know! They’re so long-lasting and have a matte finish despite being creamy and non-drying on the lips. Beau Brun is a lovely reddish brown shade that’s perfect if more blue-toned reds don’t suit your complexion.

If you want to try a bolder lip colour but you’re not 100% sure then a sheerer formula is ideal. MAC Plumful, as the name would suggest, is a lovely plum shade with reddish undertones. Whilst it has nice colour payoff, the sheer, sheeny formula makes it everyday-appropriate.

I very rarely wear red but I think this is one of the few semi-traditional reds that actually suits me. It is slightly on the drying side, however I love the shade so I can deal with that. It’s a red with some terracotta-brown undertones.

If you’re a regular reader you’re probably sick of me banging on about Bond Girl from this range! Walk of Shame is the other shade I have and this shade is really hard to describe. It isn’t a million miles away from the deep berry-mauve stain of Bond Girl but definitely has a redder tone to it that makes it stunning for this time of year. The formula is one of the most comfortable and non-drying of any matte I own.

I couldn’t do this post without my ultimate deep berry lip: MAC’s Diva. I’m sure you’ve probably heard a lot about this shade, as it really is that perfect wine colour for a festive makeup look. The formula could be a little creamier but it’s not too bad for a matte.

I’m not sure why this shade doesn’t get more love, but I’m a big fan. I know it combines glossiness with a bold colour so it won’t be for everyone but this is another great option for people who aren’t into your typical reds. It’s a really deep shade, which almost has hints of berry in there. I honestly think it would suit so many skin tones too.

Nails

Firstly, what a great name for a nail polish. Secondly, what a great shade for winter! This is a really pigmented deep plummy purple shade that looks almost black on the nails. If you’re into ‘twists’ on black nail polish, this is perfect for you and I can also imagine it looking really elegant for the evening.

I'm not often one for metallic nail polish in the daytime but this has to be my top everyday pick. The formula is just amazing; so opaque, quick-drying and long-lasting. The shade itself is a lovely rose gold.

I love the duo-chrome effect of this nail polish. The base shade is a sort of emerald green and there’s a golden shimmer running through, giving a sort of olive appearance to this multifaceted colour.

This is sort of my ultimate dark vampy nail shade; it’s a really deep reddy purple that looks almost black on the nails with a couple of coats. For an evening look, this is a great pick.

This is one of my absolute favourites! It’s a really opaque fuchsia shade with an iridescent sheen to it. It’s perfect if you don’t want something too bright or too vampy for an evening out (where a nude might not really work).

A couple of months back it occurred to me I really didn’t have a red in my nail polish stash. Right on cue I spotted Essie’s Fishnet Stockings on some other blogs and it’s exactly what I want; a very slightly pinky red. It’s not too crazy or bold, it just looks really nice and classy.

Of course I had to include a sparkly option! For a bit of rose gold festive glitter I really recommend checking out Lottie London’s No Limits. You can easily throw this on over your everyday nude if you’re heading out for the evening to make it a bit more interesting.

What are your favourite lip and nail shades for winter?

  8. I do love a red lip all year round, but throughout winter I gravitate towards the brown toned reds like MAC Barons Rose or MAC Dubonnet, which you picked as well.
