For me, my eyebrow routine is a little like my breakfast; I tend to do the same thing day in, day out before suddenly deciding I need a change then getting back into the same rut with my new go-to! However the past month or two I've been playing around a little bit more with different products and figuring out my favourites, so I thought I'd give you the lowdown on them.
Personally I used to use pencil
(you know, the Rimmel one that was the only thing on the high street for about
10 years...) and it didn't go well for me, however recently I've come round to
them. I do sometimes use powders, waxes or gels, but it completely depends what
you think is easy to use, looks most natural on you and also how sparse or
uneven your natural brows actually are.
Pomades
The cult product I avoided for so
long turned out to be well worth the hype! In the pan and in terms of texture
it's a little like a cream or gel eyeliner. I have Granite, which is perfect if
you have very dark brown (almost black) hair and want something quite cool in
tone. It's amazing if you, like me, have a natural unevenness so need to
re-shape your brows a little without it looking unnatural.
NYX Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade | £5.50
I thought I would include this as it's an amazing dupe for the ABH at a third of the price! I honestly think the formula applies, looks and lasts exactly the same. The main difference for me is the shade range, with Anastasia's being more comprehensive. I have the shade Expresso in this, which is slightly warm but still works well.

Palettes
I used to really love these wax
and powder duos and Sleek actually do one that's essentially the same as this
(not featured as mine's looking a bit old and gross!) The wax is great for
getting your shape right, as well as filling in the tail, then the powder works
really nicely to make them look a bit fuller overall and to fill in any gaps.
Also, I really like the powder to fill in the inside ends of my eyebrows so it
looks a little more natural. I have the shade Dark Brown which is slightly warm
but works well enough for me.
If you want a 'do it all' product that's still only the size of a compact powder then this is the one for you. I was a little dubious that this only comes in one set of shades, as surely there'll be one you'll never use? However I find the lighter power perfect for filling in the sparser inside part of my eyebrows, before softly transitioning into the darker powder. I love that these aren't too ashy or too warm in tone and the cream highlights work so well on the brow bone. Although I'm not usually one for the little brushes that come in palettes, these are actually pretty handy for on-the-go and you even get a little spooly.
Tools
For any kind of powder or wax formula, I always apply it with my trusty Zoeva Winged liner brush. It's the
perfect shape and size to draw in each individual hair.
Pencils
I know I go on about this all the
time but I wasn't going to miss the chance to spread the love again! This is
the best drugstore brow product in my opinion, though annoyingly it does only
come in two shades. Luckily Hot Chocolate is a good match for me and isn't too
warm-toned. As it's a twist-up pencil there's no risk of accidentally being a
bit heavy handed due to bluntness. It's soft enough to get the right amount of
colour pay-off but not so soft it crumbles. Also on the other end is a really
great spooly I use even when I'm not using the pencil end.
This was my favourite before I
discovered the Soap & Glory Archery pencil and I still think it's good
enough to include! This is also dual-ended and whilst the twist-up pencil is
very similar to Archery's there's a sponge dispensing a powder on the other
end. This is really cool in theory but I do actually find the powder a bit tricky to
get out!
Soap & Glory Archery Brow Sculpting Pencil and Setting Gel* | £10
Hello Hourglass dupe! I was very intrigued to see how this measured up to the original Archery Brow Pencil. I have the shade Brown & Out, which again, isn't too warm and looks very natural. You don't get quite as much payoff with this as with the original, which may be a con to some but for me it's pretty good as it stops me from going overboard and allows me to build the colour up gradually. I also love the fact that you get a good setting gel with this too that keeps everything gently held in place. I still prefer the original, but this definitely has a place in my stash.

Gels
This is probably the closest
drugstore dupe to Benefit's Gimme Brow (although the brush is oddly large as
opposed to Benefit's neat, tidy one). The gel is quite thick so it's important
to wipe off the excess. This definitely works amazingly well to add colour (I have the Dark Brown shade) and
volume as well as holding all the hairs in place, however I do find it a bit
too pigmented and the large brush means you can end up spreading product where
you don't want it!
I had sort of given up on tinted
brow gels but I think I've finally found one I like! If you have quite thick
brows it's great to add a slight bit of colour (my shade is Indian Chocolate) and keeping everything in shape
without the crispy 'hair gel' feeling. However I use it a little differently;
if I'm using more of a shaping product like the ABH Dipbrow Pomade, I will set
it with this to just ensure there are no gaps and my brows are looking full as
well as defined.

I really like this round up. I recently purchased he NYX Brow Pomade and Brow Marker but I have not tried them yet (waiting to photograph them-blogger problems). I love to do my brows because it defines my face so well. My fave products are ABH Brow Wiz, MAC Fluid Line Eyeliner Gel, S&G Brow Filling Pencil, Sleek Brow Kit, etc. I am yet to try the ABH Brow Pomade and it's been on my wish list for a little while now. Thanks for sharing...xx
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out the brow marker next! xx
DeleteI also recently gave in and bought the ABH much hyped dip pomade, best product ever!!

ReplyDeleteSara - She Who Is Short
S&G do my favourite drugstore brow products! And yes definitely do :) xx
DeleteGreat round up, I am like you I generally have a go to thing that I do but I try to change it up. My fave at the moment is a brow pencil from Top Shop :)
ReplyDeletePams Stuff and Things
I completely agree with you in that my brow routine is like my cup of coffee - it's the same every morning. I really like the Maybelline Brow Drama, but am surprised that I haven't yet got my hands on the Anastasia Beverly Hill Pomade - who am I?! Haha. What a great read though! So many I still need to try!

I personally find gel pots so difficult to use! Atm I'm using a cheap dark brown pencil from the Natural collection (I know) and it's so easy to use. Albeit, if you're using a pencil you defo need a light hand as the brows can end up looking a bit too drawn in! I really want Anastasia's Beverly Hills Dipbrow though! x
ReplyDeletebohorush.blogspot.com
I've started using brow drama but I'm unsure if it's actually doing anything haha!

I love abh dip brow, I'd never go back to using anything else now!

If I have time, I'll use ABH Dipbrow Pomade but more often than not, I use Brow Wiz or Soap & Glory Archery. Great post! xx
ReplyDeleteBeautylymin
I've actually never tried Brow Wiz as I didn't know if it could be that much better than the Soap & Glory! xx
DeleteI have tried a few of these products but my faves have to be the tweezerman brow mousse and the eye of horus pencil x

Great post! I haven't used a brow pencil in so long, i do want to try the Brow Wiz from ABH. x
ReplyDeleteEmma | Emmys Beauty Cave
oooo i may try that ABH dupe before I pick up the real one... been looking for a good bro product for ages. Really struggle with blonde hair but brown brows!
ReplyDeletewww.claireamy22.com
They have so many shades, I'm sure you could find a match! xx
DeleteSo many good options out there! I'm been sticking with a NYX pencil (a great dupe for the Anastasia Brow Wiz) and the Anastasia brow gel lately! :)

Wow you seem to have tried literally every brow product there is, so helpful! I've used the Sleek brow kit for years and it's still a firm favourite. I always apply with my Zoeva Wing Liner brush and I love the S&G brow archery too for outlining the shape.
ReplyDeleteKatya | The Beauty Harbour
i prefer to fill in my brows with a pencil and then set it with a gel. to soap & glory one looks so good. have to get my hands on it.

The ABH Dipbrow is one of my faves when I have that little bit more time to spend on my brows. If I'm in a rush though I can't get enough of Benefit Gimme Brow, it's amazing x
ReplyDeleteBeauty with charm
I've never actually tried it! I will definitely pick it up at some point :) xx
DeleteI'm actually looking for a cheap option, just to try and see if it's good for me. Great options you gave though, loved them all! x

The NYX pomade sounds like a great dupe - lovely post!

I used to love the Benefit Browzings but after discovering Dibrow I couldn't go back to it! I have ABH Brow Duo too and love that. Not sure I could revert to pencils again xx
ReplyDeleteTamz || http://www.throughneweyesx.com
Oh god I had that Rimmel pencil too, it was so warm toned I hated it! (But used it for about 2 years!) I love the ABH Dipbrow Pomade, NYX Microbrow Pencil and any of the Soap and Glory offerings!
ReplyDeleteDanielle's Beauty Blog
I hate eyebrows... I know I know the only girl who isnt phased by them. Mine are naturally really thin, but they are super thick, and really dark brown - so cant really do anything with them other than leaving them in their normal shape and filling in any gaps with product. I will always use just a dark brown in any eyeshadow palette I have, not fussy lol
ReplyDeletehttp://www.makeerinover.co.uk
You should try the max factor brow gel as it has a smaller brush but my only issue with it you need to scrap a lot of the product off before use otherwise you will have hard gel chunked brows which isn't a nice look
ReplyDeleteI really want to have ago at trying some wax/powders though
Leanne | www.oohsimplething.blogspot.co.uk
I'll check it out! xx
DeleteI love the Archery and the Nyx Tame & Frame. I usually go between these two depending on how much time I've got. Sometimes I use my Mac eyeshadow in Charcoal Brown but it's usually a bit too warm for my liking.
ReplyDeleteAnne | http://decanne.blogspot.com
Thank you for your comments lovelies! xx
ReplyDeleteBrow Wiz is my most repurchased though I recently bought the Pomade based on swatches and unfortunately Taupe looks a bit green on me... I may try another colour some time! Bare Minerals pencil is the closest dupe I've found for Brow Wiz.

I've used powders, pomades, pencil and I have to say that pencil is my favorite. I think for me I like the quickness of it :) I really have been wanting to get back into the pomade though, so I may pick up the NYX one!!
