Bedtime Beauty

I find that getting into a nice little bedtime beauty routine is the perfect way to relax and unwind after a long day. It's also great to use products that do the work for you whilst you're fast asleep so you wake up looking your best.

Chelsea Earl Grey Tea and Cucumber Candle* | £5

The first thing I do is light a nice candle. For a relaxing evening I move away from my usual heavy, indulgent scents and go for something light and spa-like. At the moment I'm loving the fresh yet musky scent of Chelsea Candles's Earl Grey and Cucumber.

I never really feel relaxed when I’m still wearing my makeup that’s probably been on 12+ hours, so next I remove it. I find the most gentle, effective method to be an oil-based cleanser. My old favourite is this one from the Body Shop, which removes everything (including eye makeup) with ease. There’s something quite relaxing about massaging a butter formula into your skin. I then follow it up with a cleanse of my skin (usually the REN Clearcalm3 Clay Cleanser) but I won’t go into that too much as I have a full post on my skincare routine here.
Next, I run myself a nice hot bath with the Body Shop’s Deep Sleep bubble bath. It has a gorgeous, relaxing milky fragrance and gives some serious bubbles. I really recommend using something with lavender and/or camomile like this as the fragrance of these ingredients genuinely will help you get a better night’s sleep.

I always do a face mask whilst I have a bath, and seeing as this one needs 10-15 minutes, I will usually apply it once I’ve got in the bath and warmed up a bit. It has a really nice, light texture so it’s easy to apply a thin layer, which is all you need. This is amazing if your skin is feeling spotty and tired, as it provides an immediate cleanse and as soon as the following morning I see an improvement to blemishes (which is why I really recommend using something like this the evening before).

I’ve mentioned before that I am not a morning person so something like doing a body scrub is definitely a job I’d leave for an evening bath. My absolute favourite has to be the Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub as it smells so delicious; just think of every yummy sweet pancake, waffle or porridge meal you could imagine and that’s pretty much it!

Now my legs are nice and exfoliated, it’s time for a shave as I love going to bed with really smooth skin against the sheets. Soap & Glory’s Whipped Clean is a beautiful, creamy, slightly foaming shower butter that feels so luxurious and is much nicer than using a shaving foam. The scent is like oats, brown sugar and sweet almonds so pairs beautifully with the scrub.

Pixi Beauty Sleep Cream | £24

After I’m out of the bath I rinse off my face mask, tone, move my candle to my bedroom and pop on some sort of anti-blemish cream. Once that’s sunk in I apply a night cream. This is quite a recent purchase so I will definitely do a full review once I've tried it for a month or two but so far I'm loving it! My skin feels so silky and smooth but not greasy at all. My skin goes from combination to more normal during the winter but I do still worry a bit about applying rich creams. However this sinks in and nourishes my skin without any excess and you only need the tiniest amount.

REN Wake Wonderful Overnight Facial | £32 | post

Once or twice a week I use an overnight treatment. At the moment I’m really liking the newest addition to REN’s Radiance line. The Wake Wonderful Facial comes out very much like a cream. I use two pumps to cover my face (I must warn you the smell is quite off-putting!) and whilst the product absorbs I will do something quiet and relaxing. I will often read a book on my Kindle or a magazine; pretty much anything that doesn’t involve bright screens! I really like this mask because it provides a nice boost of radiance to the skin overnight so by morning my skin looks nice and fresh.

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum | £26 | post

If I don't use the REN, instead I'll opt for this AHA-based serum from Pixi before my night cream. Again, it's nothing too intense and absorbs even more quickly. If you're a fan of the Glow Tonic, I recommend trying out this to add a little radiance boost in between using the toner. My skin always looks more glowing the following day after I use this; it isn't one of those overnight treatments you forget you've applied.

To finish the Smoothie Star holy trinity, I apply the body lotion. Again, it has a yummy, sweet, indulgent scent and it feels so nice and nourishing on the skin. I really like applying something like this before bed so that my skin feels soft and moisturised.

This is hands-down the best lip balm I’ve ever used. The thick texture and light colour mean it’s definitely best used overnight and I use it every night. It’s so intensely nourishing it can pretty much transform even the most chapped, sore lips by morning.

I use this bergamot-fragranced hand cream as an overnight moisture mask. Considering it doesn’t feel extremely heavy or anything, it’s amazing how hydrating this is. Without fail my hands are always super-soft by morning.

Finally I blow out my candle and to ensure a relaxing night’s sleep I spritz my pillow with this miracle-worker. I was so sceptical if something like this would help me get a better night’s sleep but it really does work! If I’m having serious insomnia, obviously it won’t fix that but in general I fall asleep faster and have a more settled sleep without interruptions when I use this.

What’s your bedtime beauty routine?

You can't beat Soap & Glory for a bit of a pamper session either.

  4. Lovely picks! I really want to try a little bit more products from the Pixi skincare range and I'm a really big fan of overnight products as I tend to only do a very quick routine in the morning, so the overnight glow serum is very tempting to me!

  26. I sometimes go to bed early but struggle to sleep because I kind of take a while to wind down. Been meaning to try This Works pillow spray for ages and just never buy it. I've heard mixed reviews about the scent so might add the mini set to my Christmas list and see how I get on with it. :)
