Shades to Take You from Summer to Autumn

The end of Summer comes with its pros (hello berry lips, chunky knits and hot drinks) as well as its cons (the lack of daylight and cold mornings). I thought I'd put together some of my late Summer transitional colours. For me it's all about finding somewhere between neutral and bright shades. It's mauve or deep pink lips, plummy cheeks and golden-bronze eyes. These are some of my favourites.

Eyes

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner in Scorch | £15.50

This is a gorgeous golden-bronze cognac-y shimmer shade. I really love it for the water line as a less harsh alternative to black when I'm wearing a neutral eyeshadow look.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Copper | £22

This is the most beautifully pigmented and multi-faceted cream eyeshadow stick to use as an inner-corner highlight. It's a really unique golden shimmer shade; the perfect alternative to a champagne colour for this time of year.

Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow in On & On Bronze | £4.99 | post

You should know by now that I love the pigmented and long-lasting Maybelline Colour Tattoos and I would wear this shade for any season to be honest! But I find the neutral bronze-brown shimmer perfect for moving into Autumn, either on its own, blended across the lid or as an eyeshadow base.

MAC Pro Palette Refill Pan in All That Glitters | £10

This is a beautiful shade to wear across the lid, on the inner part or as a highlight. It seems to look different on everyone but for me it's a 'peach-but-not-too-peach' with a golden shimmer running through.

Lorac Unzipped Palette | £28 | post/full swatches

This is an absolutely stunning palette and has some gorgeous bronze, rose gold and taupe shades that are perfect transitional colours. The quality and pigmentation are beyond amazing, both for the mattes and shimmers.

Cheeks

I really love Milani blushes, they're such good quality at an incredible price point! I've chose Rose D'Oro as a transitional shade as it has bronze and rose undertones with a natural shimmer through it.

This is such an intriguing formula; it's a kind of a cream-to-powder as it gives a natural look but also has a fairly matte finish (also meaning it lasts longer than most cream formulas on my skin). Treasure Rose is a gorgeous dusky pink/rose colour with hints of mauve. I love these kinds of shades with plummy tones as they really bring the face to life.

No blusher category would be complete without mentioning my favourite formula: the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush. They have such a gorgeous texture and are more pigmented and long-lasting than you'd think. Mood Exposure is my Summer-to-Autumn shade because it's a mauve colour but has hints of dusky pink that add some colour and stop it looking flat or grey.

Lips

This has become a firm favourite of mine as the sheer Lustre finish means that although it's a fairly bright colour, it's still wearable. It's a lovely plummy-purple that's not quit a full-on bright and that's why I love it.

The Satin finish is great for this time of year as it offers a creamier formula than a matte with a slight sheen but you get a similar appearance. I also love the colour, which is a dusky pink mixed in with mauve, as it's more than a nude but less than a bright.

This is such a great matte formula! It does have the tiniest bit of shimmer in it, which doesn't translate onto the lips at all, but otherwise it's a really creamy matte texture. 612 is a gorgeous pink shade and the strawberry tones make it a sort of 'muted bright' for the end of Summer.

As far as drugstore matte lipstick formulas go, this one is pretty exceptional. It's so creamy and doesn't cling to dry patches but gives a fully matte finish and is amazingly long-lasting. Pom Pom is a vibrant deep fuchsia shade and probably the brightest of the bunch. Applied lightly it can be a nice, subtle stain or it can be layered up to full intensity.

This is a matte formula like no other! I'd never tried a Nars matte lip pencil before but I'm well and truly converted as they're so creamy to apply and comfortable on the lips. Now I've swatched them together, Dolce Vita is quite similar in colour to KIKO's 612 (dupe alert!) Dolce Vita does, however err more on the side of dusky rose than strawberry. Again it's a gorgeous shade that's somewhere between a bright and a neutral.

My lip pencil pink is a gorgeous dusky pink nude shade that pairs beautifully with shades like Twig and even Plumful or KIKO 612.

Nails

Boots describe this as a 'spiced tea rose', it's one of those nude+ shades that just gives a bit more colour than your standard neutral. It looks really nice with a tan and is a great natural colour.

The Speedy Quick Dry Range is one of my favourites on the high street and I've been wearing the shade Lap of Honour a lot lately. It's a pastel pinky-purple shade that's again somewhere between a true neutral and a bright.

What are your favourite shades to wear in Late Summer?

  48. I recently went to Covent Garden and saw the Hourglass blushes. Love Mood Exposure. It's now in my wishlist. Such a pretty shade and very radiant too, without looking shimmery, which is lovely. For the eyes, I've been loving the Naked Smoky. I know the pigmentation is not the best but really enjoy the shades. Great palette for late summer / autumn. :) x
