Roses? Check. Mauves? Check. Neutrals? Check. Gorgeous packaging? Check. The KIKO Rebel Romantic Limited Edition Collection had my name written all over it! KIKO are one of my absolute favourite brands and in terms of concept, quality and packaging, the Limited Edition Collections they release a few times a year always wow me.
In the set (which comes in two shades) you get a cream highlighter and a cream contour shade. The highlighter isn't especially glittery or shimmery, it just has a little bit of a sheen. The colour is just quite milky as opposed to champagne, gold or rosy. It looks really natural on the skin and I just swipe a bit on lightly across my brow bone and the tops of my cheek bones before blending it in by dabbing with my ring finger.
The contour shade is matte in finish and leans more towards warm than cool but still looks natural on the skin (though I do have warm undertones myself). It's so easy to contour your cheekbones by just swiping this in the hollows and blending it out with a synthetic brush. The formula of both is really creamy and effortless to work with, however at the same time I don't feel like they go invisible after a couple of hours which often happens to me when I use cream products.
I know this sounds shallow, but whatever; I really wish this had come in the same rose gold packaging as the rest of the range instead of a grey colour. I picked it up as I don't think I own a little matte palette like this and it contains all the kinds of shades I'd wear on a day-to-day basis.
They aren't the most pigmented shades in the world but it sort of works. The texture is very effortless to work with and these last all day on my eyelids. You get a subtle but defined matte eye look: there's the cream all-over lid shade, a pinky-brown transition colour, a warmer brown to define the crease and a cooler brown for the outer 'v'. You're only really going to get one look out of it but it is a classic. It's my least-favourite product from this range and it isn't revolutionising eye makeup but it's something everyone could use in their stash if they don't own something similar.

Perfecting Bronzer in Medium-Dark | £12.50
This was the one thing I almost didn't pick up but I'm soooo glad I did! It's an intriguing idea and, outside of the ones Hourglass do, I haven't seen many brands combine a setting powder and a bronzer (certainly not for under £15!) The outer ring is a nice matte bronzer with beautiful fan embossing. It's not too orange but adds the perfect amount of warmth. The inner circle is a lavender-toned setting powder to cancel out and sallowness. I tend to swirl them both together and the texture is unbelievable, it just goes on so smoothly! I've found it so hard to track down a matte bronzer that adds a bit of warmth without being a contour powder, but this is perfect.
Cream blusher is rarely a good match for my combination skin, however one of the few formulas that's worked for me was also from KIKO (the Creamy Sticks) so I thought this was worth a shot. This is described as having a 'satin matte' finish and the colour is a gorgeous matte plummy-rose. The formula is seriously pigmented so you only need the tiniest amount. I just dab it from the highest point of my cheeks moving slightly inwards and it gives a lovely natural flush. It lasts really nicely throughout the day as well, although it doesn't look quite as vibrant after the 6-hour mark, it doesn't look patchy. If you have combination skin and usually struggle with cream formulas then give this a try!
All the shades in this range are right up my street but I resisted and only picked up one. The formula is really unusual as it's super-pigmented but it has a sheeny, lustrous finish. I don't find it transfers too much and it lasts maybe 3 hours on my lips. The colour is just stunning if you're after something that's more than a nude but less than a bright.
KIKO doesn't have many UK stores so I ordered this online. Personally I find their photos to be a lot more accurate at reflecting the colour and look of a product than most. The only downside of this is that you have to spend at least £25 to get delivery at all and then it costs £5.90 on top of that or free if you spend £49 or more. I've ordered from them a few times but I hadn't done in a few months before this order.
Unfortunately I had a really bad experience with UPS on it! First they didn't seem to have recorded my address correctly from what was filled in at the time of purchase. I only discovered this when I called up to query why it hadn't come. They corrected my address and I gave a delivery instruction that if we weren't in the parcel should be left with a neighbour. However they ignored this twice (and you only get a certain number of delivery attempts before it goes back to the sender) and advised me they do not deliver on weekends or evenings. Eventually I had to just go to their depot, which was a 40-minute drive away! 9-5 Monday-Friday is a pretty standard working week so I think it's ridiculous they refuse to deliver outside of those times or to leave your parcel with a neighbour when the depots are not necessarily anywhere near the delivery address. Are you supposed to just take the day off work to stay in to collect a makeup order...?
I saw on their website that it is only the Express service that requires delivery through UPS so I will definitely just wait a bit longer and go for Standard next time as I hadn't had these issues ordering from KIKO before. However there's nothing like rose gold packaging to melt away anger and frustration!
What do you think of the Rebel Romantic Collection? Anything in particular you've tried or had your eye on?

I nearly placed an order when I saw they've launched the new collection but I talked myself out of it as I'm just heading on holidays and will most likely do some beauty shopping in Sephora and Inglot shop :) The bronzer and lipstick look gorgeous! What a shame about your bad experience with the delivery! To be honest I've never ordered from KIKO online because the delivery fee is putting me off. x

When I got this email, it was all I could do to stop myself from buying the lot. Seriously, it was gorgeous. I only didn't get it because I didn't know if they allowed paypal or just credit card.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I felt the same way about the palette. It should have been the same rose gold as the rest of the collection.

I can totally relate to your delivery issue Jasmine! It's so frustrating, especially just waiting in lingo wondering what on earth is going on D: This collection looks beautiful, not shallow at all wishing that palette matched the rest I feel the same haha. I love that Kiko really make an effort with their collections on the whole though, like the contour sticks are so awesome for a cheaper brand ^_^
ReplyDeleteIqra |The Blushing Giraffe x
I know right - even just the fact the contouring sticks come in two shades when a lot of more expensive ones don't! xx
