One of the most popular affordable drugstore brands with skincare-lovers recently launched body care, so of course I had to try it and review this new collection from Byoma for you...
The first product I chose was their Sensitive Skin Body Wash | £12 | which I chose because I do have very dry body skin and KP (Keratosis Pilaris - dry red bumps usually found on the arms and legs) so prefer something gentle. This is a milky, mildly-lathering body wash in a really generously-sized bottle, which I appreciate! The body wash is formulated with Byoma's signature trio of skin barrier booster, which can be found in all three products here: ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids (AKA the fundamental components of your lipid barrier. Topping up this goodness topically helps the skin stay happy, healthy and free from dryness and irritation. Additionally, this body wash is formulated with colloidal oat, which is soothing and can help with redness and sensitivity, urea (a natural moisturising factor), calming allantoin, panthenol to help the skin retain hydration, sea buckthorn oil to soften and condition the skin and glycerin to draw in hydration. There's no fragrance in this formula, which is pretty typical for this brand but will definitely be welcome if you're dealing with a dry skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis or KP. I personally really love this body wash and will definitely be repurchasing it for the winter when I think my body skin is really going to need it! It lathers up but remains gentle, non-stripping and leaves my skin soft and as moisturised as cleansing formula possibly can after use!
Next, let's discuss the Smoothing Body Serum | £13.99. Something like this really isn't a necessity for everyone; I use it because of my dry skin, KP and my body skin's tendency to get kind of rough! If you're blessed with soft, smooth skin that needs minimal maintenance to stay hydrated then feel free to skip this step. This light milky serum is formulated with the ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids I mentioned alongside glycerin, squalane (a skin-similar plant oil that replenishes lost moisture), succinic acid (which can be anti-inflammatory and help reduce blemishes), blue tansy (a potential anti-breakout treatment) and willow bark (a precursor to acne-fighting salicylic acid). For me, this formula was just a little too gentle; we don't really have a proper exfoliant within this product and on the thicker skin of the body, that isn't really going to make a dent if you have rough patches of skin you want to soften. I didn't find that this helped my KP or helped with smoothness any more than a standard body lotion would. With the ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids in here, I really think it could've taken some lactic acid and still been a gentle product but one that's far more effective. It also contains fragrance, which could irritate some dry skin conditions. I personally wouldn't repurchase this and don't recommend it because it's ultimately a step in my routine that doesn't add a lot and just takes unnecessary time! Not to mention, it's £14 I just don't think you need to spend.
Finally, I decided to pick up their Hydrating Body Lotion | £13.99. Like with the body wash, you're getting a nice big bottle and I honestly only need around 3 pumps for my arms and legs each day, so it offers great value for money. This is a lightweight and fast-absorbing lotion formula that comes in pump packaging so it's really quick and easy to apply. Alongside our three barrier-building ingredients, we have Beta-glucan (which has hydrating and anti-inflammatory benefits), calming oat extract, moisturising plant oils, glycerin for hydration, fatty-rich alcohol, calming allantoin and nourishing shea butter. This melts in really nicely with minimal work and it softens, smooths and hydrates my skin nicely. It's nothing mind-blowing but it's practical, effective and it works for my morning routine. It's effective on my dry skin without being thick, rich, heavy and impossible to work into the skin! My only negative is really that is has fragrance, which is fine for my skin but it doesn't smell particularly exciting or sensorial and I think for a skin barrier forward brand, it's probably best left out.
So, we have one like, one love and one pass from my perspective! Have you tried Byoma body care or anything else from this brand?
