Today we're talking Dr Sam Bunting's Flawless Gossamer Tint* | £35 | in its latest iteration. Initially, this had a limited launch due because some of the shades weren't up to scratch for release, but now we finally have the full planned range available. So, how did I fare with Shade 3 in this tinted mineral sunscreen...?

The Flawless Gossamer Tint is a mineral sunscreen formula, meaning it uses zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. This is a nano formula (meaning it uses tiny particles of these ingredients), which is probably why it doesn't leave a cast for most people (though I do think it could do with a darker shade 5 option too), which is one of the main drawbacks of mineral sunscreens. Plus, the often dry, chalky texture! Iron oxides give it its tint but also help protect the skin against visible light. This product is an SPF 50 with broad spectrum protection. The reason some people prefer mineral sunscreens over chemical formulations (that are usually more cosmetically-elegant and traceless on the skin) is because they are often less irritating. An ingredient like zinc oxide is actually the opposite, offering anti-inflammatory benefits, making it a great option for sensitive skin (the Flawless Gossamer is also fragrance-free).

In terms of other ingredients, this product is formulated with nourishing shea butter, squalane to help soften and replenish the skin and a hyaluronic acid derivative to draw in hydration. It's simple but will bring welcome additional moisture to the skin. I also think these ingredients help this to apply nicely and meld with my moisturiser. Some mineral formulas are extremely matte and difficult to even spread over the skin, let alone the flat, dead appearance they give my skin! But this one is different; it has a really nice, moisturising texture that can be massaged onto the skin without dragging or pilling.

In terms of the finish; for my dry skin, this is spot on! It has a very moisturising and glowing finish, though it might be a little shiny for those who have an oilier skin type or for very hot days. The fact this is tinted does also mean that by the time you've applied the correct amount required to get the full SPF 50 protection this product advertises, it does start to look a bit like makeup (and obviously it can transfer). This is going to somewhat restrict who is going to use this product and in which scenarios they're going to use it, but I personally like to use this on its own for a minimal makeup day or with just a touch of tinted moisturiser over the top. Shade 3 works really well for my skin tone and I don't notice any greyish-blue undertone, which sometimes happens for me, even when I'm using a tinted formula. It looks good on my skin, but it does essentially look like I'm wearing makeup and I can 'feel' it on my skin, so if that's not for you; this product isn't for you!

My verdict on this one is that it works for me as a makeup-wearer, but obviously won't be for everyone, by the same token. I like the moisturising texture and radiant finish, so if you've been looking for a mineral sunscreen that doesn't have that matte, dry finish then this could be perfect. If your skin gets along fine with a chemical sunscreen formula (that's lighter / essentially traceless on the skin), I would personally stick with that, but I will be reaching for this when my skin is feeling sensitive and I want to keep things minimal and gentle.
