The Spa Edit

I think on some level I'm always going to be the kind of person who's a bit tense and finds it hard to relax and empty my mind even of the most dull tasks I know I need to carry out! Going on a spa day away from the city is one of the few times I full feel able to escape distractions and engage with what's happening in the moment. Today I'm going to be talking through my perfect relaxing little break to totally switch off.

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll probably have seen that I was kindly invited to the Titanic Spa in Huddersfield last month (you can check out my little photo album here and some extra clips on my highlighted Spa Day Story). I've actually been there before with my mum but had never stayed over before. It's an eco-spa meaning that it's self-sustaining and carbon neutral, which I think is so cool!

They have lovely serviced apartments - I was honestly blown away by how beautiful the decor and views were! I kind of want my future home to look like that apartment... My only negative was that there was no wifi in the room! To me, that's just a given and it meant we couldn't watch a film in the evening like we'd planned. However I guess it's out in the countryside, so you really do feel like you've been taken away from the outside world for your stay. You get several minis of the Comfort Zone Tranquility products, which I already love from the last time I visited this spa! I had their products used on me for a treatment and fast-forward 6 months and I now own a good 5-6 bits from the range.

Inside the apartment

We had the most amazing 3-course meal - the portion sizes were perfect and there's enough choice for vegetarians and pescetarians. There's also a stunning bar with all the marble and copper details! We had a few champagne cocktails there after dinner, which was lovely, before heading back up to the apartment.

Dinner

1911 Cocktail Bar

You get some breakfast bits in the apartment so the following morning, after a bite to eat, we headed down to the spa. There's a lovely pool which is has never been overly busy when I've visited, as well as an outdoor jacuzzi and a sauna and steam room. They also had a gym, though I obviously didn't use it!

Outdoor area and pool

The shop is absolutely amazing and stocks all of the amazing brands used for the treatments, including Neom, CND Nails, Comfort Zone and Elemis. Comfort Zone is one of my favourite brands these days as far as body products and home fragrance go - like I said, I'm obsessed with the aromatic Tranquility range which you can get an entire body massage from (I had this done last time!) I never really hear people talk about their products but the hydrating face mask* is also up there for me, so I'd definitely recommend their facials too.

Shop

After a spot of shopping, we went in for our treatments. I went for the Neom full body massage. Don't you just hate how quickly they seem to be over? You get into this state of pure relaxation and, I for one, honestly could've fallen straight to sleep afterwards! I think it really did me some good to totally empty my mind of all the small niggling concerns and big drawn-out problems that buzz around in my head all day, every day. I'm a tooth-grinder and constantly get told I'm tense when I go for massages, so it often feels like I live in this state of heightened stress! I try to meditate and read, which helps with my sleep patterns but going for a massage is a special treat for me that really allows me to relax and let go. Like most people, I spend the majority of my day hunched over a computer screen, so it felt great to have that focus on my upper shoulders and neck. The body oil used was also so nourishing and left my skin soft and smooth.

Heat Experience

Relaxation Room

There's a really lovely relaxation room at the spa full of bean bags, beds and magazines - it's the perfect way to chill out after a treatment, or even have a nap. We had a little bit of a lie down before heading back to the spa. With your visit, you get access to the Heat Experience - a series of rooms including a variety of saunas and steam rooms, an aromatherapy room, a plunge pool, an ice room and a foot spa. You can pop in at any time during your day.

Restaurant

Lunch

After a tasty light lunch, we headed back home. It was so good to just have a day of relaxation and not think about work, my to-do lists or any of the day-to-day anxieties that usually play on my mind. It's also just nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city - as much as I love it, it does make you operate in a certain, highly-strung way. I will definitely be doing more of these sorts of tips and practicing other relaxation techniques, because it really does help alleviate stress.

  7. I'm quite the same Jasmine, I find it so hard to make myself unwind & relax. I wish I was better at it since the only time I can unwind is when I've burnt myself out and I have no other option. I've wanted to start getting facials & have a spa like experience, you've definitely inspired me to take the leap.
