First Aid Skincare | Breakout

For this instalment of my First Aid Skincare series I'm talking through the products I reach for when I'm breaking out to help get my skin clear again fast! Which is pretty apt, because the festive period did my skin no favours...

Cleanser: REN ClearCalm3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser | £19 | I love this cleanser - it's just so gentle for a product aimed at oily / spot-prone skin. It has a unique liquid-clay formula that cleanses and removes surface shine without stripping the skin, so can be used every day to maintain a clear complexion. It works perfectly when paired with my FOREO Luna Mini 2* | £119 | which is a cleansing device that helps to really work the product in. It has silicone bristles, meaning it's really hygienic and easy to clean (the last thing you want when you're a bit spotty is to spread germs all over your face!) and this just takes the cleanse to the next level.
Breakout-banishing ingredients include: Kaolin clay, Zinc, Salicilin, chamomile

Toner: La Roche-Posay Serozinc Spray | £10 | This is a refreshing face mist that has blemish-reducing properties without drying out my skin. I use it in place of a toner as it's so quick and easy to reach for. It instantly calms the skin and reduces that annoying surface shine.
Breakout-banishing ingredients include: Zinc Sulphate

Targeted Treatment: The Ordinary Salicylic 2% Solution | £3.90 (15ml) | Salicylic Acid is a BHA (acid exfoliant) so is a bit of a wonder ingredient when it comes to getting rid of spots and the scarring they can leave behind. This is a gel that I apply directly onto spots and it can be used under makeup or before bed. It not only helps get rid of active breakouts overnight but it also reduces the hyper-pigmentation that can mark the skin as a result.
Breakout-banishing ingredients include: Salicylic Acid

Moisturiser: La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo + | £16 | This is a lovely product for combination and oily skin types, because it provides a level of hydration that isn't going to overwhelm your skin. It also calms the skin, helping the appearance of spots and takes away any of that surface shine without being drying. Over time, it can also help fade blemish scars.
Breakout-banishing ingredients include: Salicylic Acid, Zinc

Face Mask: The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask | £11 | This is an absolute miracle product that I reach for when my skin is breaking out like crazy! I usually use it in the evening for around 10 minutes (it has a really invigorating feeling on the skin) before rinsing - by the time I wake up the next morning, most smaller blemishes are gone and larger ones are considerably reduced and far less angry. It's a product I always know is going to do the job and leave my skin feeling fresh and looking clear.
Breakout-banishing ingredients include: tea tree oil

  2. I use the same toner and moisturizer, Effaclar + has Niacinamide too, which is great for hyperpigmentation if I remember correctly.

  3. I've tried the REN cleanser before and really liked it. I'm using The Ordinary's Niacinamide at the moment which is helping to keep my skin clear.

  5. The Effaclar Duo has definitely helped my skin recover from some breakouts in the past. La Roche-Posay in general is a brand I turn to when my skin isn't doing so well - I find my skin always gets along well with their products.

  7. The Ordinary do some wonderful little products. I'll have to pick up the Salicylic Acid next time, I could really do with a bottle on standby!

  8. I always struggle when I have a breakout - it's only one or two spots, but they stay for ages and look horrid! The Sallicylic Solution sounds just great, exactly what I'd need to get rid more quickly of little scars. However, I have been using the Serozinc spray before without any noticeable changes on my skin - but I did hear lots of good things about it from other bloggers too, so it must just be me haha!

  12. I use Peter Thomas Roth Acne-Clear Invisible Dots. They aren't the hydrocolloid type. They are medicated stickers. When I use them, my spots never come to a head and mostly disappear overnight. I use these for deep, painful spots.

I also use Sunday Riley Luna oil. Nothing compares to it when trying to get irritated, inflamed skin back into shape.

  13. I've seen so much about the Ordinary skincare ranges atm, I really want to get my hands on some. I love Body Shop bits but I've been so careless with my skin recently so really need to get back into the habit properly. Danielle || Miss Danielle

  17. It sounds like I definitely need to try more La roche posay products, especially that toner! I often don't gravitate toward the products because I find the packaging confusing as to what that product actually does
