The Christmas Day Makeup Menu

It's very nearly Christmas- yay! Today I thought I'd talk you through the highlights of the makeup look I'm going to be going for on the day, so I hope you enjoy.

I'm going to start by using my beloved Becca Backlight Priming Filter | £32. It's just a gorgeously hydrating, sheeny product that's so perfectly-named because it does give the skin an amazing glow without being at all obvious on the skin. I'll be pairing this with the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation (Stromboli) | £33. This is my all-time favourite and it gives the perfect medium coverage - more flawless than a 'light and dewy' base but not anything too heavy or matte. It has a soft satin finish that looks radiant without the shine and never appears unnatural on the skin. It's long-wearing too, so I know it'll last me the day.

I've been loving using the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer (Medium) | £20 | under my eyes. It gives such a fresh, radiant look - the coverage is medium-full but it doesn't look at all heavy (just be sure to set it so it doesn't crease). I then plan to finish off my base with the natural, radiant coverage powder: MAC's Mineralise Skinfinish Natural (Medium Dark) | £24.50. It holds my makeup in place and reduces shine without leaving my skin too matte or flat.

The Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey | £21 | is an oldie but a goodie! The true gold shade just looks so rich, warm and gorgeous - it's perfect for this sort of makeup look. Although it has an intense highlight on the skin, the finish is quite metallic and sheeny, which I love. My current favourite bronzer is the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Sunset* | £34. I actually apply this before my powder, as it's a liquid so works best directly over foundation. These matte-look but slightly luminous bronzing drops have intense pigmentation so you only need a tiny amount swept across the cheekbones and blended out with a damp sponge to get natural warmth and definition. For blusher, I go for a glowing, warm but natural shade in the form of the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush in Brilliant Nude | £32 (individually). It's just such an easy product to blend out effortlessly and add a flush of colour that's nothing too full-on.

My eyeshadow will be done using the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette | £18 | review. I love the quality of this formula - the shimmers have a stunningly dewy finish and the mattes have a creamy, easy-to-blend consistency. I'll be doing my signature look with this palette: the warm caramel brown matte Substitute for Love as a transition, the warm gold shimmer Pure Ganache across the lid, the red-brown matte Freshly Toasted to deepen the crease and the warm golden-brown shimmer Subtle Blend on the outer part of the lid. There isn't a highlight shade I love in this palette so I go back in with Gilded Honey on the inner corner and like to add a pop of colour by blending a touch of the cranberry shimmer (Warm Notes) in the crease.

It's no secret that I love the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Amber Haze | £19. It's an eyeshadow pencil / eyeliner in a creamy but long-lasting, smudge-proof formula. I love this rich golden-brown colour - it adds that perfect bit of smokiness to the lower lash line. I will of course be pairing it with my usual favourite: the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black* | £14.50. It's just the best product for a winged liner look: the formula is so opaquely black and the tip incredibly precise. It doesn't bleed or smudge and stays looking incredibly sharp all day (or night). I'll also be using another eye makeup favourite: the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | £8.99. Again, I just see myself reaching for a product I can trust and this is that in terms of mascara! It lengthens and curls my lashes incredibly well, giving a great volume boost at the same time (whilst still keeping that separation). It doesn't smudge or flake on me either so hopefully there'll be no awkward panda eyes in the family photos...

The final two products I'll talk through in this post are for the brows and lips. I've only recently had a tint and wax, so I'll just be brushing through a little bit of the Glossier Boy Brow (Black) | £14. It adds colour, volume and hold to my brows in a way that looks so natural. I wanted something festive but long-wearing and low-maintenance for the lips and the reddish-brown of Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Walkyrie | £21 | fits the bill! It isn't anything too drying but gives a matte stain appearance.

  2. Wow I'm actually planning to use the exact same eyeshadow palette! Something about it just screams Christmas to me! I'll be pairing it with my favourite deep wine lipstick, Maybelline's Divine Wine. It's been my go-to for any parties or events for a couple of years now, everytime I wear it I've gotten compliments :)

  11. I probably won't bother with makeup on Christmas Day this year. If I do though there's a strong chance I will be using the same mascara as you. I love that one! xx

  12. The Cocoa Blend palette is great for Christmas, with all its warm shades. Your lip colour choice is beautiful too - more low-key than me (I'll be wearing a red glitter lipstick from Lush) but definitely a pretty choice that will stay put all day no matter how much you eat haha!

  13. Gilded Honey is so gorgeous for the holidays, although I tend to use it more in summer when I've got a bit of a tan, as it is one of the darkest highlighters I own. I was swatching mine the other day to see what I'll be popping out for Christmas and New Year's Eve, and I'll probably . go for my Dior Nude Air highlighter. It's one of the prettiest I own!

  18. I was just contemplating buying the Nars Sheer Glow foundation today for my Christmas makeup look but was really worried about not liking it giving how much it costs. But I've heard nothing but good things about it so I think I'm going to go ahead and spurge on it ;)

  23. Nice picks! NARS Sheer Glow is also my favourite foundation and I'll definitely be wearing it on Christmas day too. I have a bit of a nude blush obsession and really want to get my hands on Hourglass Brilliant Nude. It looks so pretty, and the Hourglass blushes I already own are among my top favourites!
