Which Do You Need? | Zoeva Cocoa Blend vs. Caramel Melange

I've been asked quite a few times which warm-toned Zoeva eyeshadow palette I'd recommend picking up, so I thought I'd dedicate a post to comparing the two of them today!

Zoeva eyeshadows

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of the Zoeva Eyeshadow Palettes | £18 each | and I've amassed quite the collection of them (you can check out my post on them here - let me know if you'd like to see an updated collection in the comments, though). Overall, I really like their eyeshadow formula; the shades in each of these palettes have great pigmentation, blend easily on the eyes and last reasonably well. I absolutely love the mattes, as you get such smooth colour payoff from them and the shimmers are amazing because a lot of them have this almost foiled effect.

You get 10 shades in each of these palettes and they come in cardboard packaging. It doesn't give the most premium feel, however it's sturdy enough and I've never had any issues with my palettes. What I do like is that the packaging is nice and slimline, making these easy to travel with. What I also enjoy is that the palettes have themes and colour schemes within the packaging and all of the shades are named and fit in with the feel the product is trying to create. I really like the mid-range price-point of these two; they're not cheap but at the same time they're under £20 and the quality is amazing.

Cocoa Blend

I'd say that this is the slightly more wearable option. It totally depends what you're looking for, but I can see this having a bit more universal appeal. There are one or two shades in here that I don't tend to reach for: Sweeter End is a pinky-champagne iridescent shimmer that feels much more crumbly than the rest of the shadows and I don't really like it that much as an inner-corner highlight (which is something this palette is missing, for me), Beans Are White is a black matte and Bitter Start is a cream matte and I never tend to use those in a palette and Infusion is a charcoal shade with black glitter that I'm just not interested in!

The palette is beautiful, though I definitely find myself creating the same look with this as there's really only one or two shades in here that you'd use all over the lid. Having said that, I do absolutely LOVE the look I use this palette for. I use the light warm gold shimmer Pure Ganache across the lid, the warm mid-toned caramel matte Substitute for Love as a transition, the deep red-brown matte Freshly Toasted to further define the crease and the warm brown-bronze shimmer Subtle Blend on the outer part of the lid. I often add in the cranberry-toned shimmer Warm Notes or purple shimmer Delicate Acidity into the crease for a subtle, wearable pop of colour. It really does just elevate a warm-toned eyeshadow look to be something more special.

Caramel Melange

This was a new addition last year, so of course I had to snap it up! This is going to be a little bit less universally-appealing but a dream come true for warm shadow lovers. Besides the two light matte tones Wax Paper and Universal Delight (you know how I feel about those...) I actually use all of the shades in this palette, unlike with Cocoa Blend. There really isn't a single dud in here in terms of quality and finish, which is another bonus; I even love Edible Gem, which contains micro glitter but really does go on smoothly (I pack it onto the outer corner with a flat shader brush). What I also like is that despite this being a very warm palette, there are some more muted tones in here, so you don't have to go all-out fiery if you don't want to - you can use something like Finish Sensual (a taupe-brown matte) in the crease, the yellow gold shimmer Almost Burnt on the lid or Edible Gem (a warm plummy colour with gold glitter running through it) on the outer corner, just to dial things down  a bit.

All of the shades are beautiful but Edible Gem, Aftertaste (a reddish-orange matte) and Liquid Centre (a foil-effect coppery rose gold with a dewy shimmer finish) have to be my favourites. I do think that you only really get one look out of this, so if you don't like coppery reddish-orange tones then it won't be for you, however if you're a fan of this colour family then I think you'd love Caramel Melange. I also really like that it includes shades that balance out the look so it isn't too much.

Which is for you?

There's not really anything between these two when it comes to quality, so it's really down to the shades in this comparison. If you're more a fan of nude shades and just want something slightly warmer and more golden then go for Cocoa Blend. I'd also recommend that palette if you like having a few little pops of colour. If you're all about the warm tones then go for Caramel Melange, though for me, it is a lot less easy to wear. I can reach for Cocoa Blend on a work day, whereas Caramel Melange is definitely something I use more for a night out or special occasion.

Have you tried either of these palettes?

  6. Both of these are really beautiful, but I'm definitely more drawn to the Cocoa Blend! I would love to see an updated collection, Zoeva has too much to offer but it's good to narrow it down to one or two must haves :)

  7. I love the look of both individually but when you put them side to side its even harder to choose between them. I think I would get the most use out of them if I could combine a few shades from each into another palette...haha...because that's what the world needs. Another palette!! xxx
