Which Do You Need? | Anastasia Sundipped vs. HudaBeauty Golden Sands

I recently managed to get my hands on two of the most hyped-up highlighting palettes in the blogging world! As autumn gets underway, I'm definitely desperate to hold onto whatever glow remains from summer and both the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Sun Dipped* | £39 | and the  HudaBeauty 3D Highlight Palette in The Golden Sands Edition* | £40 seem like they were created for that purpose. Both palettes are a similar price and available from Cult Beauty, so today I'm going to compare them and hopefully help you decide which is for you!

Packaging

The products are pretty evenly-pegged when it comes to packaging; they're both cardboard with some metallic letter detailing (but do look pretty nice, having said that). They're sturdy and I've travelled with both without any problems. One difference is that the Anastasia shades are magnetic and removable, meaning you can pop the pans out and put them in a custom palette, however that isn't a deal-breaker for me - it's just a 'nice to have'. I like that both palettes have the names of the shades underneath each pan.

Although the similar price-point and the fact you get 4 shades in each of these makes them instantly comparable, it's worth noting that the Sun Dipped palette contains 22.2g  of product whereas the Golden Sands has 34g. This surprised me a little, as they're both pretty big palettes with a large pan size (though they're slimline so aren't too bulky). I personally never finish highlighters so it isn't a big thing for me, however if you like to know how much you're getting for your money: there's almost 1/3 more product in Golden Sands than there is in Sun Dipped!

Formula

I actually already have an Anastasia Glow Kit in the discontinued shade That Glow, so I was expecting Sun Dipped to be more or less the same, however it wasn't (in a good way!) That Glow is definitely more natural, which is lovely, but I think Anastasia perfected their formula with Sun Dipped; it's still got a smooth, glitter-free, dewy finish and sits beautifully on the skin without emphasising texture, however the intensity and pigmentation is next-level. I love using this kit when I want to make a real impact with my highlight and look all golden and glowing!

The HudaBeauty formula is a little different; for starters you get one cream shade in here. It's a really lovely one, as it's very opaque but still blends out beautifully, whilst at the same time not being greasy or shiny. There's no glitter, just a pearly sheen. I'm often wary of palettes that mix cream and powder products, however I haven't actually found any fallout from the powder shades has got stuck in or ruined the cream. The other shades are very similar in formula, having a slightly more powdery texture than the Anastasia palette (though this isn't necessarily a bad thing). They have more of a satin finish in comparison to Sundipped, however they still have a metallic finish. Again, I don't find these to be unflattering and they don't sit on the surface of my skin. I find them very easy to blend out and although they definitely have good pigmentation, it's a decidedly more soft-focus look in comparison to the Anastasia.

Colours

The shades from Sun Dipped look similar at a glance but they're actually very different to each other and one or two of these are totally unique within my collection. Bronzed is a warm golden-bronze shade that I really love because it isn't anything too orange-toned and it's perfect for a bronzed makeup look. Summer is a light, pearly warm gold, that I really like for highlighting the tip of my nose and cupid's bow. Tourmaline is such a unique colour that I'm totally in love with; a kind of silvered bronze tone. Moonstone is a bit too similar to Summer for my liking, however it's not as warm and is slightly lighter - I like to use on the inner corner of my eye or the brow bone.

The shades are definitely a little more varied in the Golden Sands palette and you do get the one cream highlighter in here. Fiji is the cream - a gorgeous, almost duo-chome light yellow gold with a pearly finish. Seychelles is a light, soft pearly gold that's very similar to Summer and Moonstone from the Anastasia palette. Tahiti is a warm bronzed gold that looks a lot liked Anastasia's Bronzed. Zanzibar is a pinky-peach colour with golden undertones that I use to top off my blusher.

Which is for you?

If you're in the market for something that's super-dewy and intense or for very golden-bronze tones, then I think Sun Dipped is for you. If you'd like a softer look with a little more variety (with the cream shade you get in there and the fact you have a light gold, a peachy-pink tone and a bronze) then I'd recommend Golden Sands. Overall, I think Sun Dipped just edges it for me in terms of formula though.

Have you tried either of these palettes? Which do you like the look of?

  3. I've been tempted to buy the Sun Dipped palette just for Tourmaline, which looks gorgeous, although sadly I think it would be too dark to work on my skin tone. I'd love to try out the formula though - it sounds fab!

  13. I only have Sun Dipped and I'm very happy with it! The current highlighting palettes that Huda has don't call my attention that much, but when she releases one with nicer and light colors I'll buy it! xx

  17. They’re definitely both very pretty! I love the ABH formula, but Sun Dipped is too dark for my ultra-fair skin. I would have to go with Huda’s palette!

  19. I really love the look of the ABH Sun Dipped palette, as the shades just look a little more wearable for my skin tone. However, they are both absolutely beautiful and they both look to be super pigmented xo
