My Go-To Workday Makeup

Now that I've been an office-worker for a good 3 years, I definitely have products that I gravitate towards on weekdays. Generally, I try to go for a natural but sophisticated look that isn't going to take too much time or effort to create. This is the makeup I find myself reaching for over and over again.

A lightweight base

I love using a foundation that I can slap on with fingers or blend out with a damp BeautyBlender* | £16 | for a natural look within a minute or two. My favourite 'every single day' base still has to be the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (St Mortiz) | £30 | full review. It just leaves my skin looking fresh, radiant and flawless whilst still being lightweight. It's hydrating without being greasy and also lasts really well on my skin. I also really love the Estee Lauder Double Wear Cushion Nude Stick Foundation (4W1) | £28 | full review | for slightly more coverage.

My go-to everyday concealer has to be the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer (Ginger) | £23. It's just a fantastic all-rounder, concealing my blemishes and dark circles, as well as for tidying up my eyebrows. It's also great because it gives medium-full coverage whilst looking incredibly natural on the skin and can be applied with a few of dabs of the finger. I also find it nice and long-wearing. If I need any extra under-eye brightening then I reach for the Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer (Nude) | £8.99. Frustratingly it only comes in two shades (other than the correcting ones), though luckily this one works for me. It has a light, whipped texture and it practically blends itself for great coverage that's hydrating and not at all caky. I like to set my makeup with a lightweight powder that mattes down the skin whilst still having a radiant finish. For me the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural (Medium Dark) | £24.50 | is perfect; it's basically impossible to over-apply this, no matter how quickly you're doing your makeup!

Natural on the cheeks

One of my favourite natural highlighter formulas has to be the Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powders | £13. It gives such a soft, effortless, glitter-free glow to the skin that's totally work-appropriate. This shade is Dayglow, a light, warm gold tone. As I'm sure you can see, my Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Baby Love | £25 | is very well-loved because it's the perfect workday blusher tone. It's a sort of peachy-mauve nude tone in a semi-matte formula that's just the right kind of 'crumbly' to apply evenly with minimal effort. It adds the perfect amount of colour and lasts incredibly well. For a natural look in seconds, I reach for the Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion (30M Sienna) | £28.50. I don't know they created this formula, but it honestly doesn't feel or look like any powder I've ever tried before! It blends beautifully and effortlessly to create incredibly natural and realistic definition. It adds warms and dimension to the face without being at all orange.

Neutral eyes

It's no secret on this blog that I love the MAC Peintures Paint in Bamboom | £16. A cream shadow is so easy to apply in seconds and it makes it look like you put in effort when you really didn't! This is a natural taupey-brown shade with slightly pink undertones and a very subtle golden sheen running through it. It's very pigmented and long-wearing and you can use it alone or, if you have time, add a matte brown to the crease and a highlighting shade to the inner corner. Another one I love is the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Bronze Moon | £29. It has such a creamy, easy-to-blend texture but amazing longevity once it sets down. The multidimensional finish makes it look like you're wearing more than one colour on the lid and the crayon formula means you can also use it as a liner.

In terms of a proper everyday eyeshadow palette, I'm sure you can see how well-loved my Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette | £32 | is! The quality of eyeshadows from this brand is almost unrivalled; they're so pigmented, yet blend beautifully and wear so well. This palette contains every shade you need to create a soft everyday look, which is why I reach for it time and time again. Tonally, it's neither too warm or too cool, so will suit a lot of people. I've said it before and I'll say it again; if you're not someone who spends loads of money on makeup (whether that's trends, new releases or anything else) and just want one palette that you know you'll use and is worth the investment then this is it.

Natural definition

For my brows, I like quick and simple products. I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (Dark Brown) | £15.50 | for natural definition. It has a really precise brush and a great spooly to create a soft, natural look. If your brow shape is already where you want it then something like the Benefit Gimme Brow Gel* (03) | £20 | is perfect. It holds the brows in place, whilst adding natural colour and volume.

I actually don't wear winged liner every single day at the moment and I'm ok with that! To add some natural fullness to the lashes, I tight-line with a matte black eyeliner. My current favourite is the Stila Waterproof Smudge Stick Eyeliner in Stingray* | £14.50 | as it's so pigmented but doesn't smudge or transfer. For the lower lash line, I like to use something less harsh than black. I love the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Smog | £15.50 | as it's a soft golden-bronze brown tone. The consistency is very creamy and pigmented but it sets down and doesn't wear away once it has.

To finish off the eyes, of course I go in with a coat of mascara! My favourite for a feathery, natural look is the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara | £20.50. It has a really precise, thin wand to get right into the roots of the lashes and lift, curl and lengthen. It also doesn't flake or smudge on me.

Easy nude lips

Of course for a work day, I gravitate towards the nude lip shades that I just know are going to work for me! One of my favourites has to be the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Petal | £19.50. It's a creamy, moisturising lip balm with a pigmented wash of warm rosy nude that can be applied without a mirror. I also love the MAC Lustre Lipstick in Jubilee | £16.50 |, which as seen me through many a job interview! It doesn't look like much but it's a nice sheer lipstick with a warm brown tone to it that's a perfect 'my lips but better' on my skin tone. Finally, if I want something a little bit more pigmented then I reach for the ColourPop Matte Lippie Stick in Brink | $5. The colour is so hard to describe; it's almost a warm brown tone with pinky-taupe undertones. The formula is creamier than the name suggests and it's long-lasting without being drying.

  1. Definitely too faced natural eyes, I've abused this palette to its lastleg, currently only the shimmery shades are yet to touch the pan. They're such life-saver when it comes to office look.

  3. MAC Satin Taupe and a lightweight base. For the office a neutral lip, a bold lip option as soon as I leave there.

  5. Some great brands here, I very rarely do anything with my eyes, only on special occasions! Otherwise it's just a bit of mascara!

  6. I definitely prefer a lightweight base like you for work days. Ive dug my Bourjois healthy mix foundation back out for a light layer with a damp beauty blender, and make sure I put a bit of blush on so I'm looking a bit more radiant! xx

  22. For work I either go for the full lot or I go nothing at all there seems to be no in between for me but it's good that you've got a routine of products that you can just go to straight away when you have work, saves a lot of time deliberating between foundations and eyeshadows etc! Gimme brow has to be one of my all time favourite brow products, it's a go to for me. That Fresh Sugar lip treatment sounds ideal really, especially if you have to get a bus/train to work you can just whack it on without caring too much.
