Beauty Sleep

Sleep and myself haven't always got along, but we seem to be in a pretty good place at the moment! These are my favourite products for when you want to wake up looking and (most importantly) feeling at your absolute best.

Relaxing bath and body picks

The best way to unwind after a long and stressful day, or to prepare your for the week ahead on a Sunday night is to run a bath. The Miss Patisserie Lavender Bath Melt | £4.50 | is perfect; it's really moisturising and the subtle scent is just so relaxing. Lavender is scientifically proven to help you sleep better, making it an essential for bath time.

An amazing discovery I have to thank my mum for is the brand Feather and Down. At the moment I'm loving their creamy and nourishing Melting Shower Cream | £6 (for full size). I've not come across such an affordable sleep-themed brand before but totally recommend checking them out. Their products all have a similar, very soft and light fragrance that's so incredibly calming, with lavender and camomile. I love to spend a bit of time in the bath to let my muscles relax and afterwards I use the Feather and Down Soothing Body Oil | £8. This is so intensely nourishing and has that soothing fragrance. It also gives you that amazing 'smooth skin against clean sheets' feeling!

Overnight beauty miracles

I tend to reach for an overnight skin treatment when things are looking a bit lacklustre and I have a few favourites here to show you. The REN Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial | £32 | contains glycolic acid, lactic acid and fatty acids to rejuvenate the skin overnight and it really does leave things so much softer and smoother. I'll be doing a full review on the Teoxane Radiant Night Peel* | £40 | however I still wanted to give it a mention here. It's an overnight moisturising cream that kicks up things a few notches from the more gentle REN product. This contains a higher percentage of glycolic acid, meaning the skin looks considerably more radiant by morning and the hyaluronic acid moisturises and plumps out the skin, making it look all-round healthier.

When my skin is more on the dry and sensitive side, I reach for the Pai BioRegenerate Oil* | £22. This contains rosehip oil, which is a miracle-worker! It soothes and hydrates the skin without being too heavy or breaking me out, as well as improving its texture and the appearance of any pigmentation over time. Of course it's no secret that I also love the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm | £9.50. It's so intensely nourishing that I rarely have to exfoliate my lips and they never chap any more. It's a heavier texture so I use it overnight for soft and smooth lips by morning.

I'm pretty new to sleep-in hair treatments but I was really impressed with the Grow Gorgeous Overnight to Gorgeous Hair Masque* | £22. It isn't sticky or heavy, you just apply a small amount to the lengths and ends before bed. By the time I wake up the next morning my hair is smoother and looks healthier and moisturised without getting all greasy. It's pretty much a 'good hair day' guaranteed. It says to rinse this completely in the morning, but I personally don't, I just let my hair get a little bit damp in the shower the next day, which works really well for me.

In terms of ensuring smooth, soft hands and feet for the next morning, I have a really lovely pairing on the go right now: the Living Sea Therapy Foot Cream* | £18 | & the Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Overnight Hand Therapy* | £19. The Living Sea Therapy cream isn't at all heavy or greasy but is moisturising enough for my sadly neglected feet to be nice and smooth when I wake up. It also has such a nice, fresh spa-like scent. The Crabtree and Evelyn has a lightweight texture that's softening without being thick or leaving my hands shiny and slippery. If you suffer from dry skin in-between the fingers then this is amazing and I love the scent; it's honestly like taking a breath of fresh air!

Sleep essentials

There are a few things that help me ease into a nice, deep sleep and of course the best way to look fresh in the morning is to get a decent night's rest! I'm currently using the Illuminage Rejuvenating Eye Mask with Copper Oxide* | £25 | because a) it's an amazing eye mask and b) it has added skincare benefits. It has a nice, cushioned feel and really covers the entire eye area to ensure no light gets in and you can adjust the velcro so it fits properly. Especially during the summer when it gets bright very early, this is essential for me. Copper has amazing, renewing qualities that makes it a great anti-aging ingredient. This rests against the eyes so I'm hoping that in the long-term it'll keep any creasing at bay!

An old favourite is of course my This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Mist | £18. I don't know how it does it, but the soft scent on my pillow always allows me to slip into a restful, natural sleep. I was so dubious about this until I tried it - if you struggle to feel well-rested then definitely give this a go. I give my pillowcase a spritz about half an hour before bed as I settle down to read, listen to an audiobook or meditate, and it really helps me unwind and feel ready for some rest.

  1. Love the This Works pillow spray! It's a bit expensive, but it lasts ages. I just got a similar spray from The Body Shop. I'm keen to see how it compares!

  2. I love the this works deep sleep spray, it smells divine. I thought it was a huge gimmick before I got it for Christmas, but now I'd 100% re-purchase. I suffer with insomnia and rely on medication to sleep, so when I'm out of pills I always turn to this spray to save my sleep :-)

  4. I always have a bath before bed and light a candle, I find it's the perfect thing to get me ready for bed! to be honest, I'm not the best sleeper in the world either (although I have gotten a lot better over the years), so I might also have to try the This Works pillow spray. I've heard such good things about it!
