The November Beauty Report

It's the end of another month and I'm already gearing up for Christmas and end-of-year content! However today we're talking hits, misses and new discoveries from the past month.

Favourites

L'Oreal L'Or Limited Edition Highlighter | £6.99 | This is such an elusive product but I've finally found it online to link it for you! The spongy cream formula is pretty much the same as the ColourPop highlighters, which I'm already a huge fan of. I also love the shade of this - it's pretty much perfect for my skin tone. It's a warm, true gold shade that gives a dewy glow to the skin without any glitter. It just looks so natural and for the price I think it's a must-have.

MAC Nutcracker Sweet Copper Cheek Palette | £29 | This palette is everything I hoped it would be! The gold highlight - Whisper of Gilt - is perfection! It has a glitter-free metallic finish that still packs a punch. Then you get this perfect biscuit-y, rosy matte blusher - Pleasure Mode. I really rate the quality, longevity and pigmentation of these shades and they're both perfect for this time of year.

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Melrose | $5 | review | This is a gorgeous rusty, terracotta-toned matte eyeshadow with a cream formula. The colour payoff is amazing and this shade is perfect in the crease for a warm, autumnal eye look.

LA Splash Art-ki-tekt Waterproof Slim Eyeliner Pen* | £11.25 | review | I've mentioned this about 20 times this month so it should be no surprise to see it amongst my favourites for November. whilst I still reckon I'm a Stila Stay All Day Liner girl at heart, I can't deny I was surprised at how much I liked this! It's very black and matte, making it a bolder, more evening-appropriate option for winged liner. However it stays in place without smudging or transferring all day.

Rimmel The Only One Matte Lipstick in High Flyer* | £6.99 | It was kind of hard to choose which shade to put in this post (a review of this collection is on its way!) because I'm honestly more into the formula than the actual shades this lipstick comes in. This is a nude-pink-mauve tone however, like I said; for me it's all about the creamy, comfortable, yet totally opaque formula. It gives a true matte finish without the dryness.

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Screenshot | $6 | review | Obviously, this is my favourite liquid lipstick formula so I won't harp on too much about that today (think matte finish but without feeling drying and without any flakiness or mess). However I am a little bit in love with this nude-brown-peach shade in particular this month! I've linked my entire post on the Dirty Peach trend if you want to check it out.

Zoeva 235 Contour Shader Brush | £8.50 | This is the perfect brush for applying ColourPop's matte cream eyeshadows. I generally just pat the shimmer shades onto the lid with my fingers but it's a bit awkward to try and apply the product to the crease in that way. This small, synthetic blending brush is absolutely perfect though!

B Makeup Brush Cleanser | £4.99 | I picked up this spray whilst I was away for a few days and my brushes were a mess (to spot-clean), not really expecting a lot. However I was totally impressed! I really didn't think it was possible to get makeup brushes so clean without water. This is an essential for busy weekdays because it works even for mucky foundation brushes and post-smoky-eye eyeshadow brushes.

The Body Shop Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask | £15 | review | This is one of those really great 2-in-1 products; as well as being a very invigorating face mask that leaves my skin soft and glowing, it also exfoliates. The exfoliating particles are natural, so although very effective, this product is super-gentle on the skin.

Roger and Gallet Aura Mirabilis Cleansing Mask* | £15 | review | This has been one of those 'creeping favourites' - slowly and subconsciously I've been using this to remove my makeup pretty much every night for the past month! It's just a really lovely cleanser that's very effective, gentle and leaves my skin soft and hydrated (without leaving behind any excess or greasiness).

Lanolips Lano Everywhere Cream* | £10.99 | I actually have a few products from Lanolips I'll be reviewing very soon - I'd never tried their range before but this is already a 'love'! It's a lightweight, non-greasy but really hydrating cream - I used this on my face and it left my skin nourished without breaking me out. I love it as a hand cream and it's also amazing as a body lotion - in fact, my only negative is that there isn't a larger size of this! Unless it's just for a weekend I feel like I'd get through this really fast using it on my body every day.

Disappointments

Philip Kingsley Flaky/Itchy Scalp Shampoo* | £10 (75ml) | I've seriously been suffering with a dry and sensitive scalp over the past few months and I thought I'd swap my usual Head and Shoulders for something else in an attempt to rid myself of it for good. This had amazing reviews but I still (wisely) chose to try the travel size first. I really didn't feel this soothed my scalp or stopped the flakiness - in fact I found the much-cheaper Head and Shoulders far more effective.

Products on Trial

Nail HQ Strengthener* | £6.99 | I suffer badly from weak and peeling nails, which often means my nail polish doesn't last. I've tried several products (many of which were much more expensive than this), but few have made a significant difference. However I was incredibly impressed at how long my nail polishes lasted when I used this. There wasn't the usual flaking of nail polish (and actual nail) and even when used alone, I honestly  feel my nails are much less crumbly and brittle. So this gets a big thumbs up, especially for the price.

Nail HQ Cutile Oil* | £5.99 | This is a cuticle oil so all you need to do is rub it onto our cuticles to ensure the area stays nourished. This also helps to strengthen weak nails like mine. I've been using this once or twice a week and I've definitely noticed a difference even when I've used this on my bare nails.

Nail HQ Protect & Repair* | 7.99 | This is similar to the Strengthener but it's more of a base coat than a treatment in itself. It still works very well to stop weak nails from crumbling and helps my nail polish to last the entire week. It's also very fast-drying and doesn't have a thick or gloopy texture so the extra few minutes it takes to do this step is well worth it.

Unwash Dry Cleanser* | £19.95 | With all the scalp dryness I've been experiencing I've tried to cut back on my use of dry shampoo, so I was definitely apprehensive about trying a new product. However this was a pleasant surprise; obviously the standard comparison is with Batiste and I find this is much more transparent. As long as you spray a reasonable amount at a bit of a distance, you won't get any white residue. However at the same time it does the job, which I personally didn't feel the other (and the most popular 'invisible') option Colab did. Overall I really like this dry shampoo; it absorbs any greasiness and adds some volume without white residue or any scalp irritation. Though it's pricier than my usual, we will see how long the can lasts to decide whether I will repurchase it!  (As it's definitely and investment so I'd want it to last me a good couple of months.) However so far, so good. This will be out next month on Look Fantastic.

Look Incredible Deluxe Beauty Box* | £35 | I must admit I've always been a bit dubious of beauty boxes; I've tried a couple but inevitably ended up cancelling subscriptions after getting little more than a few rubbish samples or after feeling short-changed. However in this box you get 5 full-sized products (there's also the standard version for £18.99). I won't dwell too much on the individual products because these are from the November lineup and December's is now up for pre-order, however I wanted to show you how many high-quality products you get in here.

There's a Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Eurydice - this matte purple and iridescent silver duo isn't really my cup of tea (always a risk with beauty boxes) however I do really like the quality of this, so I definitely think I'd buy more Nars eyeshadows in future (this was somehow my first time trying them!) There's also the  Marc Jacobs Sheer Gel Lipstick in Anais which, again, isn't my sort of shade (it's a very light pinky-beige nude) however it's again amazing to get such a high-value item in a £35 beauty box. I've actually already tried the Hi Impact Brow Palette and I really like it - the powders are natural but still have great pigmentation. You can mix and match the shades to create your perfect brow shade and these even work as eyeshadows. There are also two body products in here: the Ahava Salt Scrub and the Spa Retreats Indulgence Hand & Body Lotion. The scrub is very effective at removing dead skin whilst also being nicely nourishing - it has an oil base so emulsifies, making it easy to remove. The lotion is lightweight, non-greasy and has a soft fragrance - it's a great one for having on your desk or bedside when the cold weather leaves your skin feeling dry.

    1. Yes they are, though they aren't a completely true matte formula so are more prone to transfer xx

  2. I'm not a fan of that shampoo either - as someone with scalp eczema, I find it actually irritates me more! If your scalp is still playing up, might be worth trying an SLS free shampoo? I also find taking extra omega 3 fish oil helps too! X
