Monthly Makeup Menu #10

My makeup routine has been a bit 'all over the place' recently because I've been travelling so much and had a lot of new products to play around with, so this is the first time I feel like I've been able to pull together a group of products that have been absolute staples.

Base

Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Primer | £10 | This is, of course, an all-time favourite of mine! It just provides the perfect satin base for my makeup to apply on top of and increases the wear-time of my foundation. Plus I get a few extra hours without shine when I include this extra step.

MAC Studio Fix Fluid | £22 | It's an oldie but a goodie! I honestly hadn't used this foundation for a good year, however I saw it in Duty Free and decided to give it another go. It's a medium-full coverage foundation with a satin finish. The shade NC40 is spot on for me right now and I also find this wears really well on my skin. I'm so glad I rediscovered this one!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Colour Correcting Fluid in Peach | $28 | I picked this up in New York, however it's going to be out in the UK in September. I wasn't 100% sure on this at first because the colour is quite light, however it does brighten the under-eye area as well as neutralising some of the blueness of my dark circles. Once I've blended in a normal concealer over it, I can really see the difference. The formula is pretty much identical to that of the original concealer.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer | £17.50 | I actually have this in two shades: Medium Neutral (seeing as they don't have a Medium Warm shade) and Medium-Dark Warm, because I love the formula both on blemishes and under the eyes. It has such a light, fluffy texture that blends out incredibly easily, however it still delivers amazing, long-lasting coverage.

Sephora Pro Airbrush Concealer #57 | $24 | This is one of the few concealer brushes that I really like both to cover blemishes and to hide dark circles. I'm a huge fan of this range and this brush applies my concealer in the most natural, flawless way with minimal effort.

MAC Prep & Prime Fix + | £10 (Travel Size) | I actually picked up the full size of this in New York and decided not to pack it for Spain, however I couldn't resist and got this handy travel size in Duty Free on the way out! I'm still playing around with this product and discovering all the possibilities, however so far I've been loving it for intensifying eyeshadows but most of all to finish off my makeup. It makes my base look more natural, blended and just better overall!

Cheeks

Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Brilliant Light | £34 | This has been my go-to highlighter on an everyday basis. I was really unsure about getting this because I was decidedly underwhelmed by the powders, however this was everything I wanted it to be! It's a really subtle, natural but beautiful light gold highlighter.

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Face Collection Palette | £48 | post | Apologies that this is no longer available, however there are some new duos coming out featuring the same shades you can get your hands on. This arrived on the morning that I left for Spain, so I threw it into my makeup bag to take with me. It's so secure and travel-friendly and has everything you need because it gives you a few options for day or night and to go with different makeup look. Of course I love Champagne Pop, however as I've had the single for a while and used it so much, it has admittedly taken a bit of a back seat! Prosecco Pop is a more gold-toned highlight in that same super-pigmented, dewy formula. I wore this almost every evening when I was in Spain for an intense highlight. I went for Amaretto during the day, or hen I was going for a more bronzed/neutral look because it's a warm brown semi-matte blusher shade. In the evenings I tended to opt for Rose Spritz in the evening, which is very similar to the highlighters in formula, however has a gorgeous warm pink colour with a golden sheen.

Urban Decay Beached Bronzer in Bronzed | £20 | I honestly feel like I've found The One for me as far as a subtle-but-noticeable, warm-but-not-orange matte bronzer goes that actually works for my skin tone. The packaging is also gorgeous and feels so premium; plus I think £20 is a really reasonable price. The formula is just so good! It's pigmented but not so much that you have to be really careful with applying it. It blends out so beautifully on the skin with minimal effort and doesn't go patchy or uneven.

Look Good Feel Better Multi- Tasking Brush* | £11.95

This is another thing that landed on my doorstep as I was packing to leave for the airport, so I was a bit risky and packed a product that I'd never tried before to go away with. I've tried this for a few different uses; it's great for powder, for buffing in a matte blusher and even for getting a flawless finish with a full-coverage foundation. It's great that it has synthetic bristles because you can use it for cream and liquid products as well as powders and the tightly-packed bristles with a slightly domed shape also make it great for so many uses. Personally I've been really liking it paired with the Urban Decay bronzer. It just picks up the exact right amount of product and blends it out perfectly. Plus 12% of the wholesale price goes to the Look Good Feel Better charity which helps women and teenagers with their confidence and wellbeing following the visible effects of cancer treatment. I don't know about you, but when there's a great product that's in aid of charity that definitely allows me to talk myself into buying it!

Eyes

L'oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush | $8.49 | This is something I picked up in New York and have been obsessed with since. It's a cream eyeshadow with a super-metallic foiled finish in a rose gold shade. It has this amazing colour pay-off and works as a base with the Anastasia quad or on its own for an evening look (I did this in Spain one night with black winged liner). It's so long wearing and doesn't crease on me even after hours of wear in the heat.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadows in Glisten, Red Earth, Truffle and Deep Plum | $12 each | This is pretty much my perfect plum-toned smoky eye quad; I go in with Glisten (a beige nude with a bronze-gold sheen) across the lid, Red Earth (a pinky-brown matte) in the crease, Truffle (a warm purple-brown shimmer) on the outer part of the lid and Deep Plum (a matte, as the name suggests) to deepen the crease. They're so pigmented, blend out really easily and wear really well on my eyelids. I wish these were easier to get hold of in the UK because I think I'm obsessed!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | £7.99 | A bit of an obvious choice for me, but I've been loving my trusty Lash Sensational lately. Perhaps it's because I've been travelling so much and when I pack this, I just know I can trust it! I love the plastic wand because it gives me this amazing length and curl but also adds that little bit of volume, which means it's one that can work for the evenings as well as in the daytime. I don't find it flakes or smudges on my eyes either, though I did swap it for the waterproof version in Spain.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz | £15.50 | I finally picked this up in New York. Though I'm very happy with my Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil, I lost it in our hotel room so thought I'd try this at last. I picked up the shade Dark Brown which, if I'm being pedantic, is a tiny bit warm-toned but still definitely works for me. I really like the spooly on this (even more so than Soap & Glory's) and the pencil is the perfect consistency and size to get a natural but precise eyebrow look.

Benefit Gimme Brow Gel* | £18.50 | Another cult product I'd actually never tried before! I think I had a bad experience with another brow fibre gel that was too clumpy and crispy, so although I'd tried and liked the NYX one, I was a bit wary to go for that kind of product again. However this adds a bit of hold, some colour and extra volume without it feeling like I have product in my brows. I've been using the shade Medium, which is actually pretty spot-on for my very dark brown hair. After a fresh tint, I can pretty much just use this, or if not I will use it with the Brow Wiz (which helps me get the shape right).

Lips

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park | $6 | I've been wearing this so much lately, because it gives me that long-wearing semi-matte finish without any sort of dryness. It's a really everyday-wearable warm peachy-pink nude colour that seems to go with most makeup looks.

Urban Decay Comfort-Matte Vice Lipstick in Hitchhike | £15 | When Urban Decay re-launched their entire lipstick range, I had to treat myself to one of them (and at £15, why not?) Hitchhike looked like a really different, interesting shade so I decided to go for that. It's a sort of deep rose mixed in with a brownish-red. The Comfort Matte formula is creamy and doesn't skip over my lips at all but still has a sheen-free finish and amazing longevity.

  1. So many incredible products! I really need to repurchase the Urban Decay concealer as I've run out and I love the stuff. The past couple of months I've been using a Sephora colour correcting concealer with the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer over the top and I really like the combo. I spoke about it in my June Faves post. I hate that the Amber Rush eye shadow is only available in the US - dying to get my hands on it, so beautiful! x

  17. I'm actually a little upset that Becca now released the blush and Prosecco Pop duos, if I know that they were releasing the duos then I wouldn't have purchase the Face Palette. Now I'm stuck with two full size Champagne Pop and will be using them till I'm 90.

    1. A lot of people are pretty annoyed as it was billed as the only way you could ever get those shades. I assume they were not originally planned and are what Becca referred to as 'making it up to the fans' following the eyeshadow debacle...xx

  18. I love the L'Oreal gold eyeshadow, it looks so pigmented and beautiful! I love the Maybelline mascara, too - it's one of the very few mascaras I've actually repurchased. And the Urban Decay lipstick looks like the perfect shade for you xx
