Monthly Makeup Menu #8

It's been a pretty busy few weeks for me so I've been reaching for so many of the same products to save some time in the mornings. It's time again for me to share the products that have been in my Muji drawers and makeup bag lately.

Base

Whilst my skin was really dehydrated I was using the Too Faced Hangover primer, however this month I went back to my former flame and just fell in love with it all over again! It has a cream formula and just applies so nicely. It gives my skin a nice satin finish; there's enough hydration but it removes any shine. I love how my base applies on top of it and it just makes everything last nicely.

I've pretty much exclusively been using either the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser and Velvet Matte Skin Tint this year so far. However a new base has made it into my rotation in recent weeks. This is the new formulation of the cult HD Foundation (which has now been discontinued) - I did actually have that but ordered the wrong shade and kind of just gave up on it. However this new version is definitely more hydrating and less matte. I use my Sephora Pro Airbrush #55 (obviously!) to either sheer it out for a really natural look (barely more than a tinted moisturiser) or build up the coverage where I want it. I love the natural, healthy look this gives without being too dewy. It also passes the Freckle Test; it gives me enough coverage to make my skin look even and conceal imperfections without being masking, which I test by whether or not I can still see my freckles! I do set it with a little powder to stop the t-zone getting shiny but I really like how this wears throughout the day. The shade Y375 is also perfect for me and their colour range is pretty impressive.

As part of my Beauty Spring Clean (more about that in a post I have coming up soon!) I'm trying to finish off a few different products and this is one of them. I feel like I have several peach-toned correctors on the go, so I'm trying to finish them up. Correcting is an essential part of my concealer routine and a tiny bit of this under my eyes really helps cancel out my dark circles. It is very creamy in formula so can crease a little but it does the job. The major downside is that it only comes in three shades and this is the darkest!

I'm really loving this concealer because it's hydrating but not greasy and gives amazing coverage. The texture is so light, fluffy and easy to blend. Plus it works just as well on blemishes as it does under the eyes. I love this stuff, especially for a fresh (non-caky) spring look. I wear Medium-Dark Warm which is a tiny bit dark but it's pretty spot on in summer and I can make it work now if I blend it out with a sponge. The shade range is slightly odd, I must warn you!

I don't know how I did my makeup before I got a concealer-highlighting pen! I always always always finish up my under eye concealer with one these days and at the moment I'm loving the YSL Touche Eclat in 4.5 Luminous Sand. It really does brighten up under my eyes and you can pop it in your bag for after lunch when you're looking a bit tired as it instantly lifts the eye area and your entire face with it.

Truth be told, I threw this into my Vitamin Grocer order to get free shipping but I actually really like it! It offers a bit of coverage (my shade is 310 Sun Beige) and de-shines my t-zone without looking heavy, caky or powdery. It doesn't make my skin look flat and I did actually find it minimised the look of my large pores a little! I do think it's quite similar to the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder so for convenience I'll probably stick to that in future but I'm really enjoying this for now.

Cheeks

It took me a while to figure out why I'd been sent a light and a dark concealer - the contour brushes should've been a giveaway (d'oh)! I did actually receive this in a light shade (Fair Maiden) too, which you'd probably like if you're into a more matte highlight, however I do prefer more of a shimmer and I just think the stick formula suits contouring better for my skin type. Anyway, I'm really enjoying the dark shade for contouring as the formula is nice and creamy. I'll either apply it straight from the stick then blend out with the brush  or swipe the brush over the product before applying. The shade is warm but not orange and the formula blends out effortlessly for a nice, natural everyday look. I think I'm officially a fan of cream contouring!

For under a tenner I strongly suggest you get your hands on this! It's become my favourite for cream contour products (which I'm experimenting more with now) as it just blends everything out seamlessly in seconds. There's minimal 'work' involved when I use this with the concealer stick and that's exactly what I aim for! The slightly domed bristles mean this fits perfectly just under my cheekbones too.

This has the exact same synthetic bristles as the Medium brush but it's a lot smaller and has a more rounded shape. This is what I reach for if I'm going out and want a slightly more precise contour. It's also small enough to also use in other places like blending down the sides of my nose (if I'm going all out!)

It took me all of about 48 hours to cave and order this when it came out in the UK! You can see all the shades and swatches in my full review that I've linked just above but my clear favourite so far is Dripping in Gold - a pretty, dewy golden-champagne highlight. It just looks so natural on the skin: I love it! I have to say I prefer the Limited Edition So Hollywood Illuminator I have but these are perfect for Spring.

I'm such a fan of ColourPop's cream blusher formula and this vibrant but deep peach shade is gorgeous for Spring/Summer. It's billed as 'Matte' but has a slight golden sheen to it. I love the 'springy', slightly mousse-like formula as it's nice and pigmented and isn't greasy at all. It lasts really nicely on my skin as well.

Eyes

My beloved Bobbi Brown Taupe cream eyeshadow stick finally ran out and I thought that instead of  repurchasing it right away, I should try and find something similar to use as an everyday base that was already in my stash. Trespassing Taupe is a tad cooler, and I do prefer the Bobbi Brown shade but I really can't fault the creamy, pigmented, easy-to-blend and long-lasting formula of this. Especially for under a fiver!

Large Z Palette | £15.95 + Makeup Geek Eyeshadows | £7.95-4.95 each | post

I bleat on about these all the time so I'll keep it brief and you can check out my full collection and a swatch-athon in the post I've linked. But, this is pretty much my entire collection and this palette all I've been using! I love the quality, pigmentation and longevity of their standard shades and the Foiled formula has a gorgeous super-metallic dewy finish. They're so easy to work with and their mattes are better than MAC's at less than half the price!

From left to right and top to bottom, the shades in my Z Palette right now are:

Top Row -
Shimma Shimma
Magic Act (Foiled)
Peach Smoothie
Creme Brûlée
Purely Naked
Frappe
Cocoa Bear

Second Row -
Glamourous
Pretentious
Grandstand (Foiled)
Goddess
Morocco
Flamethrower (Foiled)
Brown Sugar

Third Row -
Starry Eyed (Foiled)
Homecoming
Taupe Notch
Mocha
Bada Bing
Mesmerised (Foiled)
Vintage

Bottom Row -
In the Spotlight (Foiled)
Cinderella
Prom Night
Unexpected
Burlesque
Bitten

Zoeva Graphic Eyes* | £7 each

I was kindly sent the new shades of Zoeva's eyeliner crayons, which I'd heard so many positive things about! I have the shades: The Truth (pearly white shimmer), Myth (pearly champagne shimmer), After the Disco (a bright yellow-gold shimmer), It's Never Over (a matte pinky-red), Taupe (a purple-taupe shimmer) and Mute (a charcoal-taupe matte).

I'm so impressed with the formula so I'll definitely be ordering a few other shades in this. For me, these are just as creamy, pigmented and smudge-proof as the Urban Decay ones I love (and I've mentioned before that my eyes are very watery...) There aren't as many shades but at less than half the price, it's well worth picking up a few of them. I love Myth on the inner part of my lower lash line as it really does open up the eyes. I often use Taupe or After the Disco on my lower lash line. Mute has to be my favourite though; I love it as a less-harsh alternative to black on those minimal makeup days to tight line with. The only ones I haven't really found a use for are Myth and It's Never Over but I'll be keeping hold of them as I always need these quirky kinds of shades when it comes round to Halloween or doing fancy dress!

Stila Stay-All-Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Carbon Black | £14.50 | post

Sorry regulars: it's this again! Basically, if you like winged liner then you need this. It's smudge-proof and really does stay all day. It comes out a very pigmented black and I love the precise felt tip pen nib. Plus you won't run out of it for ages.

Soap & Glory 2-in-1 Archery Brow Pencil in Hot Chocolate | £8

I'm so busy at the moment I've not even had a chance to get my eyebrows done - god knows how long it's been now... In the meantime I have this for a natural but more groomed eyebrow. I always bang on about it but it really is my favourite; not too soft or too waxy, not too grey or too red, it's nice and thin and the twist-up mechanism means no sharpening!

NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Espresso | £5.50

I'm already running out of this so need to pick up  fresh one ASAP because I can't be without it. I love this to finish off my brows as it's not too watery or too crispy; it's just right to give a bit of hold, fullness and colour to my brows. Plus the tiny wand makes it really easy to apply in seconds with no mess.

Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara | £10.99

This is such a cult product, I can't believe I only recently picked it up (in Black-Brown by accident - oops...) It has a thick, plastic wand with lots of quite short bristles. It takes a little bit of work and some wiggling around to build the product up but I do really like the look it creates - especially on a low-maintenance day. The false lash look it gives is definitely more separation and length than thick, voluminous lashes.

Lips etc.

I'm such a fan of the non-drying, silky formula of this matte lip pencil. It's so comfortable on my lips but still pretty long-lasting. The shade is a beautiful muted-but-vibrant rose which is unlike anything else I own.

Soigne Nail Polish in Taro* | £11

Not particularly seasonal but what can I say? I'm loving this cool-toned brown shade with hints of khaki and mink. I find these polishes last really well on me and I apply two coats to get a completely solid colour.

What do you think of my makeup picks for this month? What were some of yours?

  1. Oh these are all so amazing! Those Zoeva liners are soooo pigmented! Def can see them be used for a fun night out or safe keeping for Halloween (yes, I'm thinking of Halloween in Spring! haha). I keep telling myself that I'll get the Touche Eclat someday but now it's been so long that I keep telling myself this! Hopefully I'll take the plunge and get one soon. It just seems to get the best reviews from people! I was very let down by Charlotte Tilbury's one as it wasn't light enough for my skin tone so might try YSL instead!

  2. I really want top try the Soap and Glory primer, I've heard amazing things about it but it's hard to get Soap & Glory makeup in Australia. I also really want to get a makeup geek eyeshadow collection going! This month, I've been really loving the Estee Lauder Double Wear applied with a Beauty Blender, the coverage is amazing but it doesn't feel as heavy as what everyone was saying about it.

  12. So many amazing goodies to feast my eyes on!!! Where do I even start from? Your MUG collections is so amazing and I feel like pulling it out of my screen and adding it to my stash (don't judge me). I am totally loving the Zoeva Graphic pencils and the colours look so vibrant (can you use it as an eyeshadow base? I wonder). I am considering repurchasing my MUFE foundation and I heard the new version has less coverage than the previous HD. I may still have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing these amazing collection...xx

  30. So many amazing products as always Jasmine. I am also loving the NARS Dolce Vita pencil, the formula is amazing and I'm such a fan of the shade as its just slightly darker than my lips.

I want to get an illuminating concealer pen, at the moment I just use a concealer which is too light for me, and I think it's a slightly cakey look. I think I need YSL in my life.
