Perfect Palettes

If there's one thing I can't resist, it's makeup palettes! So I thought I'd do a post to show you my favourites of the moment, whether it's for face or eyes. I also wanted to choose slightly less obvious ones as although I love my Urban Decay Naked palette, so does the rest of the world and their mum!

When it came to choosing a Lorac palette, it was the Unzipped that really caught my eye. I mean, just look at it! It's full of stunning bronze, gold and copper tones. My favourite look is Unbelievable as a lid shade, Unspoken in the crease, Undiscovered as an inner-corner highlight and Uncensored on the outer v. The Lorac formula is up there with Urban Decay for me as the texture is so smooth and both the matte and shimmer shades have incredible pigmentation. I love how effortlessly they apply and they have fantastic staying-power. I use every single shade in this palette and I will definitely be picking up another from Lorac when I go to New York in a couple of months. You can find out all the UK shipping details in my original post.

Ok, not strictly a palette but I've been loving this duo for a natural, everyday bit of definition and I think the blusher shade will be perfect when spring officially arrives. Both of the shades are matte and have a creamy formula that applies beautifully. The bronzer is just warm enough but not too orange and looks very natural on the skin, adding a little dimension to the face. The blusher is a gorgeous coral pop of colour to the cheeks and I love that it doesn't fade and go patchy during the day.

This is just beyond stunning and I've never had a palette that contains both eyeshadows and highlighters (my two favourite things!) I was impressed with the quality of both, as this is a pretty affordable product. The eyeshadows are gorgeous; they're very pigmented, long-lasting and easy to apply. The pinky-red mattes remind me of the Becca Ombre Rouge palette, but this also has some dewy golden and champagne shimmers in there too. There's not really an eyeshadow highlight but obviously you can use one of the actual highlighters on the inner corner. I do think that unless you have quite medium-toned skin like me, you may not use all the highlighting and bronzing shades, but they really are stunning. They're so creamy and look natural and dewy on the skin. My favourite is the second highlighter along; a gorgeous golden bronze. If you're interested, I ordered this directly from the BH website as it was reduced from $20 to $12.50. I then paid just $5.50 to ship this to the UK and there were no additional charges when it arrived.

This is just the perfect warm neutral palette that will take you from day through to night. The texture and colour payoff are both really impressive, plus the packaging is gorgeous (and so compact). I do actually think this is worth the slightly-high price tag. The top row of colours are gorgeous for the daytime and all you have to do is add in a couple of the smokier shades from the bottom row for something more evening-appropriate. I also love the little pops of colour, as I think they really elevate this beyond your standard neutral eye palette.

I can't get over how gorgeous this palette is! I took it away for Christmas and New Year and didn't need anything else. There are 3 matte shades and a shimmer in there and they've all various pinky-coral hues. CR030 has to be my favourite; it's like a more pink and pigmented Nars Orgasm. I don't tend to use the light peachy shade but it works really nicely to tone down the two more vibrant mattes. The formulation is gorgeous and that pigmentation! They apply beautifully and wear well throughout the day. Just make sure to apply them with a light hand!

This was pretty much my perfect Autumn/Winter palette and, as you might be able to tell, I think Zoeva is the best when it comes to affordable palettes. It has the gorgeous warm neutrals (caramel browns, golds, redder tones) but also has a couple of colours in there. This was pretty much the palette that stopped me treating colour on my eyes as a complete 'no-no'. A little of the purple or pink shade in the crease adds something really interesting to your typical bronzy eye look. They are a little more powdery than something like the Lorac Unzipped, but I still do rate the texture of these. Mattes are a hard thing to get right, especially when you're spending under £20 but Zoeva nails it and all the finishes in this palette are so pigmented and true to colour when applied.

I initially picked this up on a whim when I saw the 35O was out of stock but this month especially, I've fallen for it hard. It's just such a great everyday palette. I will be doing a full post on this soon but in the meantime I've swatched a few of my favourites for you. It has a lot of gorgeous lid shades in gold, mauve, taupe and brown but the one thing I would say is that it's missing a couple more matte crease and highlighting colours. I tend to use a rosy taupe colour across the lid, the matte taupe-brown in the crease and a warm brown shimmer on the outer v. I like to finish by taking one of the vibrant gold shades on my finger and just patting it on the centre of the lid; it really adds something extra the the look. I didn't use this much for a while as it is a little bulky but you really can't go wrong with over 30 eyeshadows for under £20. Overall the quality of these shades is fantastic, especially the creamy shimmers, though I do think the two medium mattes colour be more pigmented (however the darker shades fare better).

Small Z Palette | £8.95 with MAC Pro Refill Eyeshadow Pans | £10 each | post & Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Pans | £4.95 - £7.95 | post

I'm a little bit obsessed with build-you-own eyeshadow palettes (as you may have guessed from my recent post) and I've pretty much created my perfect everyday neutral palette here. I use a Z Palette as they really are the best way to store pans of different sizes and from different brands. The small fits around 9 shades and is the perfect size for travelling. This one has 3 MAC shades and 6 Makeup Geek shades that are a mix of warm browns, bronzes, taupes and coppers. A lot of people ask me which I prefer out of MAC and Makeup Geek eyeshadows; what I'd say is that the MAC formula is very 'solid' and unlike any of my usual favourites, though they are very long-wearing. Makeup Geek's formula is a little creamier but still so long-lasting with amazing colour payoff. Their mattes are definitely better than MAC's and at half the price, I'd go for them unless there's a shade you particularly love from MAC's extensive range. My favourite look is All That Glitters as a highlight, Homecoming across the lid, Frappe in the crease and Grandstand on the outer v.

What are your go-to palettes at the moment?
