Switching Up Your Skincare for Autumn-Winter

The weather is getting colder, which means that for once my combination skin is moving closer to dryness and dehydration than it's usual tendency towards being oily and blemish-prone. There are a few products I've introduced into my routine to help combat this that I thought I'd share with you today.

When it comes to cleansing in the winter, for me it's a hard balance to strike between something that's effective but not stripping that's also not too rich for my skin. However this cleanser is ticking all the boxes for me! I tend to use it for removing makeup however you can definitely also have this as your second or morning cleanser. It's a sort of milky lotion formula and it's so nourishing on the skin but isn't heavy in the slightest and doesn't leave excess greasiness on the surface of my skin. It's incredibly soothing and gentle however it's impressively good at removing makeup, even stubborn black eye makeup. I have the kind of eyes that stream when there's a light breeze but this doesn't irritate them even the tiniest bit. I really recommend this if you want a speedy makeup remover but you don't like the slipperiness of an oil.

Another product from the Toleriane range is the Ultra Fluid. I use this in place of a serum and this is working really well for me at the moment. It's a really lightweight gel-cream that sinks into the skin really quickly. Although it hydrates my skin, I can't feel any excess (even on my oilier t-zone) within a couple of minutes. If your skin feels tight, sensitive, sore or just a little bit worn out in this sort of weather I really recommend you pick this up as it's really calming on my sensitive patches. I also feel like this replenishes what sitting in central heating all day can take out of your skin.

I've been raving about this moisturiser a lot lately, and whilst my combination skin prefers it as a night cream, I'm finding myself using it more and more for the daytime now the temperature is dropping. It has a really nice, light lotion consistency which is fast-absorbing and super-hydrating. In my opinion this is an amazing all-rounder as it makes my skin look healthier and more glowing in general as well as adding a serious boost of hydration.

Caudalie Grape Water | £6 (75ml)

I'm not sure why this doesn't get more hype as it's an amazing product. It's like the Beauty Elixir but more hydrating, without the alcohol and more purse-friendly! Also this tiny bottle has lasted me ages, so it's even better value. There isn't much in this besides grape water and a quick spritz of this instantly relieves dry skin. I use this when my skin is feeling a bit tired and also if I've used a particularly intense treatment. It's refreshing and does inject considerable moisture into the skin.

A bit of an old favourite but one I'm already loving again now it's Autumn. This is a mask I apply in place of a night cream before bed to hydrate my skin. It comes out in an amazing-smelling sort of gel formula and you only need a small amount to get a thin layer of product that can really penetrate into the skin. Sometimes you slap on an overnight product and forget you put it on but every time I use this I notice the difference in the bathroom mirror the next morning.

This is one of the few alleged multipurpose creams that I can actually trust to do the job. I probably wouldn't wear this under makeup up on those no-makeup days or overnight it's amazing as a facial cream because of its lightweight formulation. For the body you only need to tiniest amount to instantly soothe and relieve dry skin (mine is dry by any standards but especially in colder weather!) It works really well on KP as well. It's a great all-in-one for travelling or even just a bit of a lazy day.

Where has this been all my life?! I buy into the hype on this product as I haven't needed to reach for a lip scrub this Autumn/Winter yet. It has a pretty solid formulation so you simply take a small amount and apply it to your lips. I use this every night before bed and haven't suffered from sore lips since; they always feel soft and nourished when I wake up in the morning.

I do use this overnight all year round however I'm finding myself reaching for it in the mornings more now, when my hands are feeling dry and stiff and I need moisture that will last me all day. I know I've said this with a few of these products but I mean it when I say you only need a very small amount of this! (Or you may get some excess greasiness). Anyway, this stuff is amazing and a must-have if you suffer from dry or chapped hands in cold weather.

  1. I've started using a serum quite often, although I'm still on the lookout for a hydrating mask. The Caudalie grape water is alot more affordable than I would have though! Finally, something without alcohol in it. I might give this a go as it sounds super fast and easy to spray :)
