The Everyday Palettes

Although I'm trying to cut back, I'm a certified palette hoarder! Maybe it's because I travel a lot and like the convenience but they're often what I end up reaching for. These are a few of my favourites for everyday use...

Eyeshadow

1 - Heaven, 2 - Cashmere Bunny, 3 - Sexpresso, 4 - Silk Teddy, 5 - Push-Up, 6 - Erotica, 7 - Nudie, 8 - Honey Pot, 9 - Chocolate Martini

For neutral-brown eyeshadow lovers this is absolutely perfect. It's a palette I use every single shade in because they're so wearable and there's a nice balance of mattes vs shimmers. The quality is amazing; the matte formula in particular is one of the best I've come across. I wish this was a little more travel-friendly in terms of packaging (though admittedly it's pretty gorgeous!) as it has pretty much everything you need for day or night. There are subtle shimmers, mattes and more glittery shades as well as tones varying from bright gold to deep brown. My favourite look with this is Push Up across the lid (a gorgeous brown-rose shimmer), Honey Pot as an inner-corner highlight (a beautiful bright gold shimmer) and Cashmere Bunny in the crease (a medium brown warm-toned matte). Sometimes I'll add a little bit of Sexpresso into the outer part of the crease for a little extra definition (a deep brown matte).

MAC Pro Palette x15 | £10 per shade, £10 for palette, £2.50 for insert | post

Cheating a bit as obviously I built this myself but I couldn't not mention my current go-to! It's not the best value but I loved being able to hand-pick each and every shade to create my perfect balance of finishes, shades and uses. I'll keep it brief as I posted on this in full just last week, but MAC's shade selection really is unrivalled and I love the fact there's pretty much no fall-out and they last for so long on the lids. My everyday go-to looks are either All That Glitters (a peachy-nude with a golden sheen) in the inner corner and first half of the lid, blended into Patina (a dirty medium brown with a duo chrome finish) and with Quarry in the crease (a lilac-taupe matte) then Satin Taupe in the outer 'v' (a sheeny purple-brown). Or I use All That Glitters (in the same way) followed by Woodwinked (a bronze/antique gold shimmer), with Cork in the crease (a matte-look medium brown) and Swiss Chocolate in the outer 'v' (a deep chocolate brown matte). However the options are pretty limitless and I'm always discovering new looks and new ways to combine my favourite shades.

1 - Virgin, 2- Sin, 3 - Naked, 4 - Sidecar, 5 - Buck, 6 - Half-Baked, 7 - Smog, 8 - Darkhorse, 9 - Toasted, 10- Hustle, 11- Creep, 12 - Gunmetal

Of course this was always going to make it into this kind of post. Honestly, none of the other Naked palettes has called my name since this one but the original is an absolute staple in my collection. Urban Decay has possibly my ultimate favourite eyeshadow formula; it's so smooth, so pigmented and easy to work with. They also have impressive staying power. Whenever I'm going away I pack this as it takes me from a matte brown eye for work to a full-on smokey look in the evening, with everything in between. My favourite look is Half Baked (a bright, true gold shimmer) in the inner corner as a highlight, Sidecar (a light brown-bronze shimmer) across the lid, Buck (a warm medium matte brown) in the crease and Smog (a warm medium-deep brown shimmer) on the outer part of the lid. It's such a classic look that seems to go with everything.

Face etc.

An oldie but a goodie! I dug this back out recently and I've rediscovered it in a big way. I've not really been into pink blusher this past year or so but the shades are just so wearable! You get two powder shimmer shades and one cream matte colour. You have a cooler shade as well as a warmer shade with the powders and they're so pigmented and long-lasting. The cream formula is also really lovely and pigmented; it's a really true 'Barbie pink'.

This isn't one I go for all the time these days but it's one I can't help but come back too. Sleek's is near-enough identical but I use this as it's newer. The colour isn't too warm or too ashy; I have Dark Brown. The wax is amazing on an angled brush to get the shape of your brows right. You can then go in with the powder to make them look a little fuller.

Finally, I've joined the Filmstar Bronze & Glow party! I love this product for a nice, dewy glow without it being glitter overload. The Sculpt shade has a nice sheen and isn't too warm or too cool in tone, which makes it somewhere between a shimmer bronzer and a contour powder, so perfect for everyday use. The Highlight shade is a really nice warm-toned colour I think is so flattering on medium-deep skin tones. The formula and texture makes these effortless to use which is why I reach for this palette so often.

  2. I have to agree that Naked 1 is definitely the best of the UD bunch. The original CT Bronze and Glow is go-to for me and when I'm being super lazy (or late!) I use the bronze as an eyeshadow.

  9. I LOVE palettes too! Just as guilty as you Jasmine :P the too faced natural eyes is such a wonderful palette, I think they put a beautiful combination of colours together and I love the cute size too! Plus the fact that the matte cream base shade is the larger is much much appreciated! I also love the Kat Von D shade and light palette, it's lightweight and also I can use it as a setting powder, highlighter, bronzer AND contour - four things in one, what more could I ask for ^_^

  25. Although I'm loving the Naked Smoky, I think the Naked original is still the winner for me. Such a stunning palette. Your Mac Pro Palette is also incredible. I love Woodwinked, Satin Taupe, Cork, Patina and Mulch. I'd also recommend All That Glitters. Looks stunning paired with Mulch. Have you tried Patina on top of Groundwork paint pot? It's simply beautiful!! :) xx

  37. Your swatches of the Naked palette remind me that I should use mine more often, shame on me! And I could still cry over the fact that my entire MAC palette got smashed by my washing machine (never leave it on top!) and my beautiful woodwinked, cork and many others saw the end of their days. Haha sounding so dramatic over eyeshadows :)

  39. I think that Urban Decay is my favorite eyeshadow formula as well. They are some of the most blendable mattes and hands down some of, if not the very best shimmer/glitter color pay off in my opinion. UD's shadows are just very consistent. I love the tone of that CT highlight, it looks so good on your skin tone.
