September Favourites

September has been a whirlwind of excitement, new beginnings and a lot of travel for me! As I wasn’t trying out lots of new products this month, it was pretty easy for me to pick the standouts for once.

After much fanfare, the Magic Foundation landed on counters at the start of the month and of course I was there on the first day to snap it up! Shade 7 is a really great match for me, which I wasn’t expecting at all, and the finish is really amazing. If you have combination skin then this is ideal as it isn’t super-drying but still offers a semi-matte coverage. Whether I use one pump for a natural coverage or build it up (which you can do effortlessly) it never looks cakey but still evens out my skin tone incredibly well.

I finally got my hands on the product I’d been praying for right at the end of last month. Charlotte Tilbury has released her legendary Filmstar Bronze & Glow sculpt and highlight duo in a deeper shade. Whilst I would maybe have preferred the highlighting shade from the original, I never picked that up because I knew the bronzer would be far too fair. This, on the other hand, is perfect. It’s warm but not too warm, sheeny but not too shimmery. I love the dewy glow this product gives and both powders are creamy and pigmented. It’s an absolute dream to work with!

Whilst Champagne Pop takes its sweet time to cross the Atlantic, another previously-unavailable Becca highlighter has appeared in Space NK stores. I honestly prefer this to the original liquid version of Opal; it’s noticeable but still sort-of subtle. I love cream highlighters for a dewier, natural look and for sheer ease of application. This looks amazing on the skin and the shade Opal is just perfection as it’s not too golden or too iridescent in tone.

How did it take me so long to try this?! In all honesty I think I was slightly scared off it by the fact it seems such a big part of that whole ‘Instagram’ look (you know; extreme contouring, loads of lashes and large super-defined brows) which isn’t something I could rock at the best of times, let alone day-to-day in an insurance office… However it really doesn’t have to look as intense as a lot of people wear it; I just brush through my brows with a spooly and it looks really natural. The amazing thing about this is that you can be precise and draw in the individual hairs as well as being able to re-shape your eyebrows without it looking ‘off’ (necessary for me as mine a naturally very uneven). I’m well and truly converted.

This has pretty much become my go-to cream eyeshadow base. This matte shade is the perfect medium-brown base for just about any eye look to increase wear-time as well as evening out the tone of my eyelids to ensure everything shows as true to colour as possible.

For so long I’ve heard people rave about this nail polish formula (see this shade in action here) and I will definitely be grabbing some more shades now! It’s so opaque and comes out almost like a gel polish, yet it dries so quickly and lasts a good few days even on my weak nails! The shade itself is a gorgeous rose gold colour, and whilst I don’t usually go for shimmer on the nails this has become an everyday staple.

The other nail colour I’ve been wearing this month is this fantastically-named offering from Barry M (see it applied here). It’s a new shade for Autumn as part of the existing Sunset Daylight Curing range. It’s reasonably long-lasting, though I don’t get anywhere near the purported wear-time out of it and I find the topcoat doesn’t make any difference. Having said that I love the purple-mushroom colour of this, it’s really gorgeous and quite unusual. It’s perfect for the transition into Autumn.

I finally got round to picking this up during September and I’ve not looked back since. It has a very thick, solid consistency and is unlike any lip balm I’ve ever used. However I put it on before bed and it leaves my lips in amazing condition. They’re so soft and nourished in the morning, I’ve hardly used anything else recently.

I had such a huge box full of Sigma products I reviewed recently but for my favourites I’ve limited myself to my absolute standouts, which come hand-in-hand. This is pretty much my perfect bronze/contour and highlight brush duo and they work amazingly with the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Blow. The Taperered face brush is amazing for applying bronzer or blending out your contour and as the name suggests the Tapered highlight blush is amazing for highlighter (whether applying it precisely to certain areas or blending it out). The bristles are amazing for picking up the ideal amount of product and distributing it so evenly on the skin, making application effortless. I love how flexible the bristles are as it means you can do so much more with these and the shape is perfect.

Waves have made a serious comeback in terms of my everyday look thanks to this amazing, bargain tool from Vidal Sassoon. It’s so quick and easy to use and I love the wave pattern it leaves. It looks and feels so effortless.

What do you think of my favourites? What were some of yours this month?

  11. I'm so keen on trying the Magic Foundation to see if it'll finally be the foundation that deals with my PIH without caking! I keep hearing good reviews, the video series she did on YouTube made it look great too.

  17. Charlotte Tilbury foundation and the Film Star palette - I am so jealous! I just need to get round to buying those already and not waiting for 'the right time'. I've wanted to try the highlighter from that palette forever and the bronzer will probably be just about right for my skin tone. I have the dipbrow too - I love it, but I find it dries out really quickly. I'd still re purchase though I think!

  18. I so wish I had of bought Opal in the poured version rather than the liquid one, but definitely one to look into for the future. I wish I had of liked the CT Magic Foundation as much as everyone else did, but for me it was juts a bit drying & din't look/feel too good on the skin either x

  23. Yeah Opal is dope. I remember I spent 3+ months going all around Atlanta looking for Opal at various Sephoras. It was sold out in stores and online for the longest. Once I finally got my hands on one (after waiting in line at 6am for a grand opening of a new Sephora in town) it broke in my purse like a week later lol. To this day I still have (and use) the pieces! I worked too hard to get that baby just to throw it away haha.

  28. I can see that the Maybelline polish must look amazing on you. Have thought about buying it a few times but end up going for another colour. Love the formula though. The Sigma F35 looks incredible for highlighter. I'm very tempted, although I'm torn between that one or one that Jaclyn Hill likes from Morphe. x
