August Favourites

As if it's the end of summer... Have we even had one in the UK?! As much as I love the mulled wine, coziness, knitwear and berry lips of Autumn, it's already making me sad that it's dark by 7pm. Anyway, it's time for a look at the products that blew me away this month! Apologies if there are a few different favourites in a similar sort of category but I thought I'd stay as true to the new products I've been loving this month as possible.

Allure Magazine | £4.80

This magazine has a bit of a cult following and luckily my local W H Smith stocks it (though the first few times I tried to find it the staff either had no clue what I was on about, wouldn't help me or at one point I was shown Hello Magazine - is my accent really that Manc?!) It is an American magazine focussed on beauty, so some of the products aren't available in the UK, however I love the articles and it gives me plenty to add to the wish list! We're a few issues behind in the UK unless you subscribe or pay more online, which is a little annoying but Allure is still essential beauty blogger reading.

KIKO Rebel Romantic Perfecting Bronzer in 02 Medium-Dark | £12.90 | post

Half of my favourites could easily have been made up by products from this collection but I've limited myself to the one I used the most, which is this unusual bronzer. It contains a lilac powder, which is supposed to correct sallowness and dullness, as well as a matte bronzing shade. I mix the two together and it gives me the perfect hint of sun-kissed colour.

MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Global Glow | £24

Post-holiday, this golden-bronze shade is my perfect highlighter. It looks really glittery in the pan but it really doesn't reflect on the skin, instead you get a dewy glow. This is perfect for me as I tend to go fairly matte with my base, so it's nice to add a bit of radiance back into my skin.

Bobbi Brown Corrector in Dark Peach | £19

I fancied a change from my Benefit Erase Paste and the Bobbi Brown Corrector seemed perfect. I have the shade Dark Peach, which cancels out my dark circles whilst being a little brightening. When I use this I only need a light concealer on top like the Maybelline Age Rewind.

MAC Lip Pencil in Spice | £12.50

There are basically two nude lip colours I wear: mauve and dark brown. This month I finally got into using lip pencils and I've managed to cover both bases. I love the formula of MAC's lip pencils as they go on nice and creamy but they're waxy enough to make your lipstick last longer. Spice is the perfect medium-brown, warm-toned nude to go with some of my favourite shades like Taupe, Jubilee and Velvet Teddy (which you can check out in my MAC Lipstick Collection).

MAC Matte Lipstick in Mehr | £15.50 MAC Lip Pencil in Soar | £12.50

Mehr is a lipstick that's so 'me', I can't believe I didn't own it sooner! I'd obviously heard a lot of hype surrounding the Soar Lip Pencil but it wasn't until I saw a Lily Pebbles video that I discovered the two were made to go together. Mehr is a matte but the formula is gorgeously creamy. It's a sort of dusky pink lip combination with a tiny hint of plummy-ness. You can see how the two together look applied here.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita | £19

From one amazing matte formula to another! A colleague who obviously knows me too well kindly gave me her Space NK NCentive that was due to expire, so I took the opportunity to finally get myself a Nars Matte Lip Pencil. Dolce Vita is the perfect 'not-too-scary' wearable bright rosy-coral-pink. It just glides on without clinging to dry patches and looks really flattering on. I wouldn't mind checking out some more shades next pay day...

Zoeva Cocoa Blend Eyeshadow Palette | £15.50

It may sound ridiculous but I didn't pick this up for a while as it felt more like an Autumn palette to me but with September round the corner and this back in stock on Beauty Bay, I just couldn't resist! I'm sure regular readers never thought they'd see a coloured eyeshadow on my blog but this palette is the perfect way to gently ease yourself out of your comfort zone. I love wearing a golden shade across the lid with a little of the pink shade in the crease. I will be posting a full review on this shortly but in the meantime I've swatched my favourite shades below.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eyeliner in Scorch | £15.50

These eyeliners from Urban Decay are probably the best coloured liner formula I've ever tried! I love wearing them on my water line as I find it looks a bit harsh to wear black underneath the eyes. Scorch is perfect for a bronze-brown neutral eye. It's a kind of warm golden-bronze shimmer.

Laura Mercier Caviar Eyeshadow Stick in Copper | £22

I've long-wanted to try a Laura Mercier Caviar Stick as, although there are many cheaper alternatives and different brands offering something similar, the shades are really unlike anything else I've come across. Copper is the most beautiful dewy golden-amber shimmer. I use it on the inner corner of my eye and it really is gorgeous.

MAC Pro Refill Eyeshadow Pan in All That Glitters | £10

As I've mentioned, I'm building my first ever MAC Pro Palette and as my inner-corner highlight shade I've chosen the much-loved All That Glitters. It's also really lovely across the inner half of the lid and on some skin tones I think it would work really nicely as an all-over shade. It really is the kind of colour that looks different on everyone. Some people find it very golden and very peachy, but on me it's relatively neutral with a hint of pinky-golden-peach.

Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It* | £9

This is an oldie but a goodie for a lot of people but this month was actually my first time trying this! It really isn't too 'scrubby'; there are very small, gentle exfoliating particles as well as AHAs in this treatment. I use it on my t-zone and it genuinely does make my large pores look considerably more refined!

I usually link back to blog posts for swatches in my favourites but seeing as most of these haven't had full reviews yet, I've swatched them below:

What do you think of my favourites? What were yours this month?

  27. I've really struggled with the Zoeva palettes. The matte shades are beaut, but the pigmentation of the shimmery shades are odd. When applied with a finger they are great, but with a brush they're not great.
