Holiday Beauty Packing (Take 2!)

On Sunday, I'm heading off to Croatia! This may seem a little familiar as I was originally going in May but we changed it to July at the 11th hour and I'm going for real this time! I thought that ahead of the trip I'd talk you through what I'm taking and some of my tips for beauty packing. There's not a lot of makeup in here as a lot of what I'll take is going to be in my Summer Beauty Edit, which is coming before the end of the month. I also have a Holiday Makeup Bag post here.

I've amassed a fair few free samples recently and have a drawer dedicated to them so I raided my stash to find things to take with me! I have a tiny little tube of the Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Purifying Mask, which I've never tried or heard much about. I can't even remember where I got this one from! I have the Malin and Goetz Vitamin E Face Moisturiser, which was one of a few of their products I got in July's Elle magazine. From this month's Elle I also have the Organic Pharmacy Double Rose Rejuvenating Face Cream. I've never tried either so if I don't like one I'll have the other! As I'll probably be wearing a tinted moisturiser or sunscreen, I'm not hugely fussed about moisturiser. Another Elle sample from earlier this year was the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara, which will be a great one for the evenings as I doubt I'd be wearing dark eye makeup in the day. I will probably just get eyelash extensions before I go. I also have a little MAC Prep & Prime Skin sample, which I've never used before but heard really good things about and hopefully this will help keep my face in place in the evening. I also have a sample of the Deep Sleep + Pillow Spray and as I love the original I think I may take this as I often struggle to sleep in a new bed.

I've also managed to dig out a mini size of my Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask, which will be handy as although it isn't a long-haul flight my skin is dehydrated as it is! You can only really get the mini in sets however they do make little single-use pods in it. My Pixi Glow Tonic isn't very handy to travel with so to get my AHA fix I've packed these First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads (£12, x28) which are pads already soaked in an exfoliating toner. I'm also taking the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask from the Glow and Go Kit (£12, review here) as it's my favourite at the moment. It really makes my skin look fresh, glowing and new. I recently picked up the Caudalie Beauty Elixir (£11.50, 30ml) and whilst I'm dubious whether it does that much in terms of skincare, I've heard a lot of people say they find the fragrance relaxing for flights. I'm a very nervous flier so I'm hoping this will put me at ease. I picked up a mini Bioderma Sensibio H2O (£4.80, 100ml) to remove eye makeup however Garnier have now brought out a mini of their's, which is a bit cheaper.

I tend to decant hair products into those little plastic bottles you can get for about £1 in Primark however I will take a couple of minis too. Dry shampoo is a must and I'm loving my Charles Worthington Texturising Spray right now but I can't find a mini of it. I have dug out a Fudge Texturising Spray from The Drawer but I'm not sure I'll like it as much - let me know if you've tried it! I also have a mini of the Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream (£8.75, 75ml) so my curls don't frizz in the sun. I've had this before and I think it works so well for defining curls without making them 'crispy'. Also Moroccanoil minis are the same price per ml as the larger sizes so you aren't being ripped off!

In terms of nails, I'm keeping things simple. Instead of taking my Bourjois nail polish remover, I picked up a smaller one from Boots called Pretty Quik (£2.79) so I'll let you know how it compares. I think I will do my toenails before I go in a long-lasting shade like Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing in Peach for the Stars (see it on here) or get a gel pedicure. For my hands I'm taking my staple goes-with-everything summery nude shade: Barry M Gelly in Lychee (£3.99).

Sun protection is a must, even if you're only holidaying in the UK. It's something I'm trying to get better at as I don't burn so I often forget to re-apply. Using a high SPF means that you have to re-apply it less so hopefully it will help protect my skin. I've packed the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Light Tinted Fluid SPF50 (£17) as I've heard such good things about its lightweight formula. I'm also going to take the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Honey (£18) which contains SPF 15 and is just a lovely formula and a nice natural colour. I'm also going to trial the Cover FX BB Gel* (£35) whilst I'm over there as I've tried it once and was so impressed at how it kept the shine at bay and also it has no SPF in it. That sounds counter-intuitive but a lot of people don't realise that layering SPFs in different products doesn't increase your protection; if anything it breaks it down. So my plan is to use the La Roche-Posay as an SPF and this for a bit more matte coverage.

I picked up a few little minis for my body too. The Body Shop have brought out their summer minis on a 3 for 2 so I picked up some products I've tried and tested, albeit in other fragrances. I have the Olive Body ButterShea Body Scrub and Argan Oil Hand Cream (£3.50). I also picked up a little set of Korres minis so will be taking the lovely-smelling Basil Lemon Shower Gel.

I have a few random bits in here too. I will be taking my Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey Cologne (£42, 30ml) as the size is so travel-friendly and I love this fresh, light fragrance for summer. I've also picked up the Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray (£9, 30ml). There's only so much you can do but I'm hoping this will help control my shine! I'm a sucker for a mini and Urban Decay have some really cute ones in a the moment but I resisted and only picked up this one product I went in for.

I would definitely recommend checking which products you already have in mini form and free samples you've picked up over the past few months before going out and buying more. I know minis are adorable but they often offer poor value for money so if you're on a budget I'd advise you to decant as much as possible into the little travel bottles you can buy for as little as £1. Also bear in mind where you're going when you decide what to take. If you're going to the Caribbean, are you really going to want to sweat it out under a layer of Estee Lauder Double Wear? Choose wisely and pick products you can get a lot out of!

Are you heading off anywhere nice this summer? Which products will be going with you?

  5. I used to be ridiculous with the amount of products I brought on hols but I am much better now. I save samples from beauty boxes or gift with purchase & tend to use & finish them while I'm away so there's room for some shopping in my bag on the way home! ;-) xx

  9. I tried one of those Organic Pharmacy products from the magazine this week and really loved it, will probably get the full size. One of my favourite things about holidays is using products I've saved for the occasion and of course making new foreign discoveries! X

  15. De-Slick is so good for humidity or more oily skin. I have it in my kit for moments when a client needs a more 'locked and loaded' makeup. haha

  17. Such great products mentioned. It's funny because you seem to take so much more hair and body products away with you than I tend to, but I tend to pack heavy on the make-up side. I think it might be better for my hair and skin if I take a leap out of your book. Enjoy the holiday xxx

  28. I'm going away in literally only a couple of days so that's exciting! Barry m lychee is such a great color! I'm also taking a REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask away with me that came free in the M&S summer beauty box a while ago, and I have not yet tried it purely for the sake of trying to save it, as I have heard great things. It will be nice to have a little mask to pamper with when away<3 Have a great time!:)
