Bobbi Brown Neutrals | Tawny Blush & Nude Lip Colour

Bobbi Brown as a brand seems to get a lot of flack for being 'boring' however not everyone gravitates towards Urban Decay or Illamasqua's vibe and personally I think they always deliver if you're looking for classic and wearable shades. Personally I'm rarely disappointed by the beautiful selection of nudes and wearable colour as well as the quality of Bobbi Brown products and it's fast becoming one of my favourite brands.

The two products I picked up are in the same nude-brown rosy caramel colour family as each other: the Blush in Tawny (£19) and Lip Colour in Nude (£19.50). This is my favourite kind of shade to wear as I find them suitable for day or for a classy evening look and I think I just tend to suit these colours. The packaging is simple, however it does feel like a high-end product. I also love the subtle gold detail on the lipstick. With the blushes you can actually pop them out of the outer casing and add it to the palette Bobbi Brown does separately, which I would do if I got another.

Firstly, let's talk about the Lip Colour in Nude. I'm not sure the name is quite accurate but I guess 'nude' is a word that's relative to the person using it. Like I said it's a sort of nude caramel brown with some rose mixed into it. I know I own a lot of brown lipsticks and a lot of rosy lipsticks however this is definitely a little different to anything else in my collection. It's really pigmented and applies like a dream, I also like the curved bullet, as judging by the state of my other lipsticks, I tend to apply it like that. The finish is hard to describe; it's creamy but also has a bit of a sheen. Definitely not matte but definitely not sheer, it's somewhere right in the middle. I find this so comfortable and easy to apply and wear. The lasting time is fairly average as I can get a good 4-5 hours out of it.

Tawny is a similar colour, almost like a blush equivalent of Nude. The formula is matte and has a nice level of pigment; not clown-esque but you're not apply loads to get the colour pay-off. I actually did struggle to get this to apply nicely, whilst I could get it on relatively easily when I switched to the Real Techniques Multi-Task Brush, it did go patchy mid-way through the day. It's nice enough and I can work with it but personally I think for the price it should be a lot easier to apply and last longer. I do appreciate though that my skin type doesn't respond that well to matte blusher in general so this won't be the case for everyone.

Overall I really love the lipstick but I'm a little more lukewarm on the blusher.

Are you a fan of Bobbi Brown?

  3. These shades are seriously perfect for you!! :) The lipstick really does look like a beauty. It's a shame the formula of the blush isn't easier to work with, but I'm sure you'll find a way that works for you in no time :)

  4. I always love Bobbi Brown for the fact her makeup is always wearable :) I would use all her products right down to the pan, but how much use am I going to get out of a bright blue eye shadow? Haha not a lot! To me Bobbi Brown is like an everyday luxury, still a high end product but the perfect everyday shades :)

  5. The lipstick is beautiful. I own so many browns and well, no rose toned ones, mainly because my lips are already really pinkish and when i do get rose lipsticks they just blend too well that it looks like I have nothing on my lips. I like the sound of this though, brown and rose at the same time. xox

  9. Tawny is lovely. I love me a browny red or pink. You're absolute correct, Bobbi Brown does get overlooked sometimes. I love the lipstick I have in Rum Raisin and I'm definitely reminded to add more of her lovely products to my collection.

  10. For some reason I've never been interested in trying anything from Bobbi Brown, it's not that I find them to be boring, they are the exact opposite for me because I love that their shades are more earthy and neutral and I love that sort of shades. I also think they are overlooked by many and I can't quite place my finger on what makes me avoid them all these time. I love the lipstick, that is my kind to shade and I'll have to keep in mind to pick it up to try.

  21. These would probably be a little dark for my skin tone but I can see that they'll look amazing on you. Shame about the blush not being that great, especially considering the price you pay. I think overall Bobbi Brown is a great brand and I want to try out more of their makeup in the future. x

  23. The lipsticks look really nice in shade. I haven't tried Bobbi Brown yet, I usually use MAC (favourite being Paramount) or Chanel, or YSL. Will give them a try as I love these browny shades. www.shehearts.net
