Barry M Flawless Chisel Cheeks Contour Kit | Review & Swatches

Barry M is going from strength to strength these days, I think! Their nail polishes are always on my radar, however recently I’ve noticed them expanding their makeup lines and I’m really enjoying trying more and more of their products. The most exciting thing for me right now is their contour kit (£6.49, buy here).

Word in the blogosphere is that this is a dupe of the Anastasia Contour Kit, which I don’t personally own. For me, contouring is a night out or special occasion type of thing so I don’t tend to experiment much or invest a lot of money in products for it. Highlighter is something I’m starting to use much more, on the other hand. Obviously you get a lot more shades in the Anastasia Kit, and it would be great if Barry M brought this out in some more colours. However the shades in this are working pretty well for me.

Firstly, I have to rave about the texture of these powders. They’re just SO buttery and smooth it’s unbelievable. Although they look scary in the palette they’re not that intense when swatched, though they’re still pigmented…if that makes sense? You get three shades: a sheeny (but not shimmery) banana-coloured highlight, a red-toned matte brown and a darker, greyish brown.

The highlighter colour is suitable to set your under-eye concealer and just add a bit of luminosity to the skin. The medium brown, I tend to just take on a big, fluffy brush (usually the Real Techniques Multi-Task Brush) and sweep around the curves of my face and finally the darkest shade I use to do a ‘proper’ contour. For my cheekbones (the main focus for me) I really recommend a flat, squared brush (for me the Zoeva Face Paint Brush) and if you want to contour anywhere else it works great for that too (I tend to switch to the Zoeva Face Shape Brush for that).

These shades are beyond blend-able! I think if you’re a beginner, this is perfect as you can just apply lightly, blend it out and then build it to the intensity you want. I found a bit of fallout when I was getting the product on my brush, as it’s just so finely-milled, however I didn’t find it a problem when I actually went in to apply it to my face. The lasting power is seriously something! I have patchy oiliness on my cheeks, which often causes me problems with blusher, however these seem to apply non-patchy in the first instance and don’t wear off during the day (or night!)

This kit gets a big thumbs up from me and I can’t wait to try more Barry M makeup!
