Makeup Revolution Pro Looks Palettes* | Review & Swatches

Makeup Revolution do (in my opinion!) the best affordable eyeshadow palettes out there, so I was super-excited to try out two of the new Pro Looks Palettes: Stripped & Bare* and Big Love*(£6 each).

Some of you beauty fans may have noticed Big Love looks rather like Too Faced's The Return of Sexy, Stripped and Bare on the other hand uses the same format but the shades aren't a dupe of anything else. I love the format of these; I see the first one as daytime, the middle one as evening and the final set as nighttime. Within each look you have a variety of matte and shimmer shades with lid and crease colours all easily laid out for you. It's a really nice idea and perfect for me, as I travel so much I like having as much as possible crammed into a sleek palette. I was also surprised at some of the shades I ended up liking; I think the format helped me to use the shades I might usually have been hesitant to give a go.

Stripped & Bare is a gorgeous Spring-toned palette, mostly made up of pinks, golds and mauves. Each of the top shades are matte lid colours whereas the centre shades are all matte crease colours. The rest are shimmers you can play around with. Overall I found these lasted ok on my eyelids, however by the time I get home after about 10 hours of wear they're generally kind of smudged and a little rubbed off.

Swatches run in the pan: top, left, centre, right then bottom

Look 1 is your natural, everyday eye. Not ground-breaking but very pretty on the eyes. Despite being very light in colour I think these are actually really nicely pigmented.

Look 2 is slightly more evening-appropriate, though to be honest I've still worn it in the daytime. Again I'm really impressed with the pigmentation of these more plummy tones. I'm less keen on Let Loose compared to the others, as it's a tad crumbly. Super Cool is a gorgeous shade to add to the outside of your eyelid. I'm not usually into glittery shades but a little touch of this adds something lovely to a look.

The final set of 5 is a nighttime look but still fairly low-key, though you have the two smokey shades that are really different to anything else in the palette.

Although all the looks follow a similar feel I also think they're quite distinct to each other so the fact that they're neutrals doesn't mean it's all a bit same-y.

Big Love is a shade-by-shade dupe of Return of Sexy by Too Faced and I'm actually surprised at how much I like it. Yes, by my standards this is quite colourful and daring! I was massively impressed with the colour pay-off for every single shade in this palette and I actually found they wore better throughout the day than Stripped and Bare.

The palette starts within my comfort zone; a shimmery golden-brown look. I really love this one and I think you can rock it during the day or night. I really like adding Head Over Heels in a cut crease look. Into the Night is a lot glittery than something I'd usually wear but I think I may have been converted. I think the issue I usually have with glitter shades is that the base is usually quite dry and hard-to-blend then there are huge chunks of glitter. However in these palettes the base is super-smooth and blend-able.

I feel as though dark purples are the perfect way to experiment with colour if you don't usually rock it! Romantic Moments is the only matte shade in the entire palette so it's one I end up using with the other looks as well. If you want something bolder and more colourful you can use both First Kiss and Last Kiss but if you're a little scared then just going for one or the other gives a more subdued look.

Finally Look 3 is admittedly quite similar to it's equivalent in Stripped & Bare, however it's a little more frosty and glitzy. It's definitely a going-out look for me but I sometimes use Simply Stunning in the day.

My final thoughts are that Stripped & Bare is more my kind of thing in terms of the colour and it makes a little more sense in terms of the 3 looks (you have a clear highlight, obvious crease shade etc.). However I think Big Love is slightly better quality and a good alternative if you don't want to fork out for the Too Faced palette. I think the factors sort of balance each other out for me and I like them equally.

  6. The Big Love palette is quite colourful for me as well, but I think the colours are still quite wearable especially mixed with the neutral shades. These look really nice! I love the way they're arranged in the palettes as well

  7. I was so tempted to get the Big Love palette since it's the dupe for Too Faced one but I resisted :) And now they're bringing even more palettes and for such an eyeshadow palette junkie like me it gets too exciting, haha! x

  11. I'm loving Big Love - Absorbed and Different light are my favourites. I love that they give you a matte lid shade for each look, too. I still can't believe how cheap these are and the range of different colours in each palette is great! For this price I'm definitely thinking about buying both, haha
