Bad Skin Day Saviours*

It's officially January and time to recover from the festive period! If you're like me then eating loads of bad food and drinking lots of alcohol shows on your face. Not only am I coping with the effects of Christmas but since starting a new job I've been so busy my diet has consisted of 3 food groups: Philpotts, Pret and M&S ready meals... So once you've recovered from your hangover, here are a few ways to get your skin back on track.

Something I forgot to add to the picture is an eye cream. I currently use the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream*, which really reduces the puffiness I get. Personally I have hyper pigmentation under the eyes so there's nothing that will actually get rid of the darkness, I just use eye creams to stop them looking puffy and rely on concealer for the rest.

Another quick-fix is some Sudocrem* overnight on your spots. When I wake up in the morning the soreness, redness and swelling is just gone; it completely dries them out. Personally I prefer the tube as it's only £1.99 and I think it's more hygienic; when you're dealing with spots it's best to keep things as germ-free as possible. Once the spots are dried out you really don't have to do much to make them invisible; I just add a bit of concealer to the area.

To cover up I really recommend the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer for under the eyes and Benefit's Boi-ing Concealer for blemishes. Boi-ing is specially formulated so it doesn't irritate your skin, which is great because you don't want to make the situation under the makeup worse!

I really recommend a primer to reduce the appearance of any fine lines and pores. Benefit's The Porefessional is the only thing that makes my huge pores pretty much invisible! As for foundation, my favourite lightweight formula is the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. It works amazingly to cover redness and reduce the appearance of eye bags but it's light enough to let your skin breathe.

Moving onto the most important step; skincare. Drinking lots of water is a must! A miracle product for me is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar + Duo. It takes a couple of days to work but I'd definitely recommend it as a preventative treatment too. Using this twice a day not only cleared up the blemishes I had but prevented more from developing.

Once a week I use the fantastic foaming cleanser Origins Checks and Balances to do a deep-cleanse with my Deep Pore Clarisonic Mia. This is definitely a long-term solution though, not a quick fix. For everyday cleansing, the Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil is fantastic at breaking down makeup and removing everything really quickly. For my eyes it has to be the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water. Getting your makeup off is so important to good skin. I've only ever slept in my makeup once and it seriously showed on my face the next day, so now even if it's 6am I always give it a good attempt.

Do you struggle with your skin at this time of year? What products do you recommend?

  1. I have just started using bobbi brown skin foundation and I love it so much. It's such a velevty feel when I apply it and I really like my foundation to look natural. I also seem to have finally found a foundation that doesn't look orange on me. Sudocrem is a miracle worker overnight and I love how it doesn't dry out my skin. I really want a clarisonic but it's just too expensive at the moment!!

  5. I REALLY struggle with my skin this time of year! Drinking water consciously helps (as I always forget when it's cold or drink tea and coffee instead) as well as keeping up with a regular exfoliating toner and face oil at night time to repair my skin from the effects of weather/poor diet/etc. overnight.
