Skin Rocks is your simplified capsule collection of products, and there was a pretty obvious gap in their lineup: a first cleanse! Well, now the Skin Rock Gel Cleanser* | £39 | has come along to fill that gap. Here's how the product works and how I got along with it...
First up, this is a gel cleanser, but not as you'd traditionally think of one; it's a thick jelly that (when massaged onto dry skin) melts down into something oil-based that doesn't feel oily and then when water is added, it's transformed into a milk. So it's essentially a first cleanse but with a different kind of texture. It's definitely not a foaming, water-based formula, which is what I kind of expected when I saw the launch given the brand already have a cream cleanser. So, instead: you can think of the two cleansers Skin Rocks currently make as a double cleanse duo.
This cleanser is available both fragranced and fragrance-free; I have the fragrance version which doesn't bother me at all in a cleanser and the fragrance itself is pretty mild. In terms of ingredients, this cleanser is formulated with a number of oils to loosen makeup / sunscreen and draw out impurities. There's argan, jojoba and rosehip oils to ensure your skin feels soft and moisturised after use, fatty-rich oils to replenish the skin such as avocado and sunflower seed, plus there's glycerin which acts as a water magnet (AKA humectant) drawing moisture into the skin. As added extras, we also have ginger root extract and bisabolol, which also have anti-inflammatory benefits.
This cleanser is honestly one of my favourites right now; it's travel-friendly since it comes in a tube and it's quick and easy to use. It doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes but even works against waterproof eye makeup. It's non-greasy but offers the three phases that make an effective first cleanse: solid, oil and emulsion. It's not harsh, it's not stripping and I think it would work for any skin type. If you're someone who likes the idea of double cleansing but doesn't like the idea of an overly-oily feeling first cleanse then this will be perfect for you!
Let me know: have you tried this cleanser or anything else from Skin Rocks?
