Today we're talking lip care from one of the most beloved newer drugstore skincare brands: Byoma...
Let’s start with the Liptide Lip Mask* | £9.99. Spoiler alert: this is my top pick from this launch; it’s an overnight lip mask that’s similar to something like the famous Laneige lip mask, but it comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator. It’s formulated with babassu oil (a fatty-rich plant oil), nourishing shea butter, glycerin for hydration, ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids (Byoma’s signature combination, featuring the three components of your skin’s lipid barrier to keep it healthy and balanced) and also mandelic acid and PHAs to hydrate and very gently exfoliate dry patches. I’m not usually someone who is super bothered by whether or not there’s fragrance in a skincare formula, but a lot people with sensitive skin go for Byoma because their products are fragrance-free (this lip collection seems to be the only one containing fragrance in their range) so I’m just flagging it for those people. I like the kind of glycerin-balm texture of this lip mask; it’s not greasy and stays in place. I apply this before bed and wake up in the morning with softer, nicely-nourished lips. Ingredients like glycerin provide immediate hydration, the exfoliants improve long term smoothness and the skin barrier boosters help keep your lips healthy and less likely to feel dry in the first place.
Personally, I wasn’t much of a fan of the Liptide Lip Oil* | £9.99. This is the original version and they do also have a tinted option in the Liptide pH Lip Oil* | £9.99. This formula just really isn’t what I look for in a lip oil that I’m going to be wearing during the day; it’s not dissimilar in feel and texture to the lip mask. It’s described as lightweight by the brand, but honestly; I find this really thick and gloopy! It’s formulated with Byoma’s signature triple lipid complex, nourishing and replenishing avocado oil and tamanu oils, which are nice. There’s also Vitamin E in here for its antioxidant and skin-softening benefits. For me, it’s a perfectly fine hydrator but I don’t like how it feels on my lips and it doesn’t add a dimensional gloss, it just sort of sits on top of my lips. The pH version adjusts to the pH of your skin so each person will get a slightly different shade of pink on application, which is a cute idea if you don’t want to do an entire range of different tints in a lip oil. However, I don’t like this formula so I don’t recommend this version of it either!
Ultimately, the lip mask is nice and a good addition to the drugstore for under £10. The lip oils just didn’t do it for me however! Have you tried any of these lip products or anything else from Byoma?
