Today we're talking hydration and glow! With each year that passes, I find myself prioritising hydration more and more; it's really the key for me to getting fresh-looking, healthy skin and it can be an uphill battle as we get older. I love using layers of hydration to ensure my skin stays plump and happy all day and here's how I like to do it...

Step 1: Mist

I like: Laneige Cream Skin Mist | £19

The first thing I like to do after cleansing, whilst my skin is still just a little damp is to mist. This is a lightweight layer of hydration via a fine mist to act as a base for the rest of the routine. I personally love the Laneige mist because of how fine it comes out and how packed full of good stuff it is. It contains ingredients like glycerin (a water magnet), skin-softening meadowfoam seed oil and Vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radical damage. This is fantastic for softening the skin and preventing water loss.

Step 2: Toner / Essence

I like: Fresh Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence* | £72

This Fresh product is pricey but a bottle will last me ages! It was recently updated but I've tried the new version and it's as good as it's always been. It's the sort of weightier toner / essence formula I enjoy to really add that dewy hydration to my skin and the star ingredient here is the fermented black tea extract (AKA kombucha) which is rich in skin-loving vitamins and can actually help the skin barrier function, which keeps dryness and sensitivity out. We also have Vitamin E, glycerin, hyaluronic acid (another humectant) and some plant oils and extracts. I love how radiant and hydrated it leaves my skin looking.

Step 3: Hydrating Serum

I like: Deviant Skincare Essential Hydrating Serum* | £44

The next step in my routine is a milky-emulsion serum to hydrate and moisturise the skin (we're moving from the thinnest product to the thickest, you might have noticed). I'm personally really enjoying this formula from Deviant. I'll review it in depth soon but it's formulated with amino acids and natural moisturising factors to replenish the skin, like PCAs and hyaluronic acid. Plus moisturising oat ceramides, marula oil and jojoba esters. There are probiotics in here too which can help support the skin barrier. It's lightweight but packed with so much goodness to keep your skin happy and hydrated.

Step 4: Gel-Cream

I like: Sunday Riley CEO Afterglow Brightening Vitamin C Cream* | £60

Particularly as we head into spring / summer, I love a humectant-rich gel-cream formula that's going to add in more hydration but also seals in the rest of my routine. This formula fits the bill perfectly and has the added benefit of a gentle Vitamin C derivative being included to protect your skin and boost its overall glow. The formula just melts into my skin, providing lightweight, dewy hydration that lasts with lots of glycerin, plant oils and occlusives to seal it all in.

Step 5: Water-based Sunscreen

I like: Klairs All-Day Airy Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++* | £21

Sunscreen is a must all year round, but I like to make sure I have a higher level of protection for the warmer months and I look for formulas that are cosmetically elegant and work well under makeup and alongside my other skincare for everyday use. This melting formula disappears into my skin effortlessly without leaving a cast or making anything pill up and it has a hydrating but not-too-shiny finish that provides a great makeup base. I really can't rave enough about this formula!

How do you like to keep your skin hydrated?
