FRESH SPRING SKIN

I actually think 'spring' is my perfect time of year in terms of my skin: it's not too hot, I'm not being brutalised by freezing air and central heating and I get to do my favourite thing: get the dewy glow. This is an AM routine for when you want fresh skin, using lightweight, breathable products.

First up, I of course have a cleanser and I've recently been using the Herbivore Pink Cloud Rosewater + Tremella Creamy Jelly Cleanser | £22. Unfortunately, whilst this post was scheduled, it transpired that Herbivore have made another blunder with their formulations (misleading labelling and not using preservatives). I won't get into all the details here but I just don't have confidence in recommending their products to you any more. This is a jelly cleanser, it's not really a foaming formula but you do get this sort of creamy lather, making it an effect but non-drying option for the morning. Rosewater hydrates the skin whilst tremella (snow mushroom) acts as a humectant, drawing moisture into the skin. It's gentle, free from fragrance and also contains squalane, a plant-based but skin-similar oil that helps to moisturise and replenish. The product I'd recommend to check out instead is the Indie Lee Soothing Cleanser* | £32 | because it's very similar in that it's a gentle jelly cleanser that very lightly lathers. It's formulated with ingredients like soothing oat kernel oil and chamomile, glycerin as a humectant, rose oil to moisturise and PHAs to very gently exfoliate. This product gives me a really similar experience and results so if you had your eye on the Herbivore but you don't feel comfortable with the brand any more: try this instead.

I'd follow that up with the Fresh Kombucha Antioxidant Essence* | £62 | to soften and hydrate, as well as to get that glow. I apply this with my hands and it's thicker than a toner but lighter than a serum. It just seems to lock the hydration in whilst also giving my skin a boost of antioxidants, which can help neutralise free radical damage from the environment. It also contains fermented ingredients, and this process could make them more potent so you're really maximising these antioxidant benefits. After the essence, I go straight in with the Glow Recipe Plum Plump Hyaluronic Serum | £37. Hyaluronic acid pulls water into the skin, but don't mistake that for hydration in itself! I apply it to damp skin and immediately seal it in with my moisturiser because that gives it some water to draw into the deeper layers of my skin so a get that plumping effect. This particular formula contains 5 molecular weights to reach different layers of the skin. This temporarily improves the appearance of fine lines and has added antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients, plus it gives my skin a healthy glow.

The newest skincare find in this post is the Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream | £25 | and I love it! I was a bit dubious about this product, despite the excellent reviews, due to its name; I just wasn't convinced it was going to be substantial enough for my normal-dry skin. However, this is my perfect spring / summer option because it's a light, whipped cream that melts onto the skin into more of a gel. It's packed with all the good stuff I love like squalane, glycerin and hyaluronic acid whilst feeling so breathable at the same time. It's still smoothing, it's still moisturising, it doesn't get soaked right up by my dehydrated skin leaving it wanting more and it's not at all suffocating.

Lastly, in terms of everyday stuff, we obviously have sunscreen. I love the Thank You Farmer Sun Project Water Cream SPF 50 PA +++ | £18 (15% off with code JASMINETALKSBEAUTY (affiliate - ad)). It's light, it melts right into the skin, it doesn't pill up under makeup, it gives me zero white cast and it makes my skin glow! This is a really hydrating formula for everyday wear that provides independently-verified, broad-spectrum high protection. It actually makes sunscreen enjoyable to wear!

As a bit of an added extra, I also wanted to mention that I'm loving the Isle of Paradise Medium Self-Tanning Drops* | £18.95. This is the first self-tanning product I've ever used so I was a little scared, but they worked so well for me to give my skin some warmth and glow safely as we head into the warmer months. I add 4 drops in with a simple non-active moisturiser before bed and let it develop overnight (I exfoliate beforehand to ensure my skin is as smooth as possible). It looks even, it doesn't cling anywhere and there's zero patchiness! I'm so impressed and really recommend checking these out if you want to look more sun-kissed without compromising your skin health, because they're so easy to use. I tend to just stick to my face but we'll see if I can graduate to the awkward areas of knuckles and joints soon...

How do you like to get a dewy skin glow?
