Summer is in full swing, so today I'm talking through the products that are seeing me through the season. These are my top picks for lightweight, sun-repairing, hydrating skincare that have been perfect for for the hotter months...
Let's start with cleansers. In the morning, I've found myself reaching for the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser* | £30 (150ml) | full review. This is a jelly cleanser that lathers slightly but doesn't foam up, so doesn't strip my skin. It leaves things feeling soft, hydrated and clean, whilst having a lightweight texture that's quick and easy to use. I also have the Scientia Peachy Clean Milky Oil Cleanser* | £24 | which is a really great option if you want to avoid heavier balms and oils in the heat but still want something that can effectively remove makeup. This has a milky lotion-gel formula that's lightweight and not overly oily on the skin, despite containing moisturising rosehip and jojoba oils. It gently eases off makeup, including around the eyes, and emulsifies on contact with water, so can be wiped away using a damp cloth. It doesn't sting my eyes and although it's quite fragranced, I'm not too fussed given it's a first cleanse.
My current face mist of choice is the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydrating Toner Mist | £21.56 (15% off with code JASMINETALKS_LF). This is formulated with water-attracting hyaluronic acid and vitamins to refresh and hydrate skin. I particularly find this great post sun exposure because I find my skin can really get dehydrated at this time of year. As another layer of hydration when I really feel like I need it, I reach for the AHC Aqualuronic Emulsion* | £20 | full review (sponsored). This is an extra step after toning but before applying a serum. When my skin is feeling parched; it's definitely worth it for me! This lightweight emulsion melts into my skin, giving it a hit of hyaluronic acid (so I apply it to damp skin) and that gorgeous 'glass skin' glow.
A beautiful serum to wear during the day for a dewy glow is the Fresh Vitamin Nectar Glow Juice Antioxidant Face Serum | £26. This lightweight, hydrating serum definitely gives my skin a juicy look without being sticky or overly emollient. It's also formulated with antioxidants to protect the skin from environmental damage. When my skin is suffering and feeling dried-out from the sun, I've been going for the Nuori Sun Repair Serum* | £50. This contains moisturising and replenishing ingredients like squalane (to help repair the skin barrier), sweet almond oil (an amazing occlusive) and rosehip (deeply moisturising and may help with uneven skin tone / texture). There's also soothing aloe in there to calm down any inflammation following a day in the sun and antioxidants to protect the skin. It has a light, creamy texture and is great to use overnight to soften, moisturise and replenish the skin.
My most-used moisturiser this summer has been the Volition Celery Green Cream* | £46. This lightweight water-gel cream melts into the skin, hydrating it and giving it a lovely glow without being at all thick or heavy (the formula is oil-free). It's packed full of fruit and vegetable derived antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and also peptides, which help to renew the skin. I personally love this texture for my dehydrated skin. Some gel formulas are just too lightweight for me,so my skin drinks them and feels just as parched afterwards, but not with this! It provides long-lasting hydration for my skin.
Of course, sunscreen is essential throughout the year, but you have to be incredibly diligent during the summer when it comes to reapplication. On a day-to-day basis; I want something that's easy to wear. As much as we know sunscreen is vital, it's only natural that if it's thick, heavy, balls up and leaves a white cast; you're less likely to ensure you wear it daily. For me, that great everyday product is the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 30 | £30 | full review | (though on sunny days I always up it to an SPF 50). This clear formula sits nicely under makeup and gives my skin a healthy glow. I absolutely love the lightweight, fuss-free texture. To top up my protection throughout the day, I use the Vichy Ideal Soleil Hydrating Sun Protection Water SPF 30 | £19. This lightweight mist can even be used over makeup, to ensure you don't burn during the day. It's lightweight, refreshing and non-sticky; just ensure you get proper coverage over your entire face. For my lips, I've been reaching for the Balmkind Alpine Rose & Lysine Lip Balm SPF 20* | £13 | which was kindly sent over to me by Persephone Beauty at the start of summer. It's so moisturising without being too thick or shiny on my lips and contains SPF20, to avoid burnt lips! Just be sure to keep reapplying this throughout the day to ensure you stay moisturised and protected.
