My Haircare Routine

I rarely do haircare content on my blog because most of the time I stick to my tried and trusted favourites. However over the past few months, some newbies have snuck in, so I thought I'd share my updated routine today!

Everyday styling

Heat defence and shine: TIGI Catwalk Haute Iron Spray* | £16 | I've always been a fan of dry heat protection and shine sprays over 'wetter' formulas. I had been using the cheaper one by Batiste and was initially unconvinced that this was worth the bigger price tag, however now I've had it a couple of months, I do think it leaves my hair a little less oily. I just do a light misting of this before using any heat appliances on dry hair and it gives shine without being to heavy, as well as ensuring the plates glide right over the hair.

Dry serum: L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil | £9.99 | I always have a bottle of serum on hand that can be used on dry hair when I'm styling because it just instantly nourishes and smooths any dry ends. This is a non-sticky formula that does the job without being heavy or greasy in my hair. At this price-point, you really can't go wrong!

Volume: Colour Wow Style on Steroids Texture + Finishing Spray* | £20 | or Redken Wind Blown Dry Finishing Spray* | £16.30 | My hair is often in need of a bit of a boost and Style on Steroids is a product that's so traceless in the hair, I don't hesitate to give freshly-washed hair a spray of it. It isn't sticky or crunchy but give amazing body. It's just an all-round hair booster for when things are looking a bit flat and lifeless. The Redken is also a great option - it's very lightweight but does have a bit more hold and lift to it. It's great when I've done waves or curls in my hair and want to add volume and movement to the look, as well as to help it all stay in place.

Washing & treatments every other day

Shampoo: Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Shampoo* | £6.99 |, Redken All Soft Shampoo* | £14.50 | or Pureology Hydrate Shampoo* | £16.50 | I have a few options on rotation when it comes to shampoo. The first from Hask is an absolute steal! I've been so impressed by this - it's free of sulfates and parabens, and does what it promises. It doesn't strip my hair and leaves it silky smooth. The Redken is a bit more of a luxury option and is amazing at softening, smoothing and hydrating the hair, whilst cleansing it gently. There's a noticeable difference in how my hair looks and I also think this has helped to reduce the amount of breakage I experience. Finally, I have the Pureology Hydrate Shampoo - whilst I can't speak for how it helps to preserve colour just yet, I do find that it helps to retain the moisture that's often lost during washing, helping my hair to stay feeling soft and looking healthy.

Conditioner: Maui Moisture Revive & Hydrate Shea Butter Conditioner | £5.99 |, Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Conditioner* | £6.99 |, Redken All Soft Conditioner* | £16 | or Pureology Hydrate Conditioner* | £20.50 | The Maui Moisture Conditioner was such a great find - I still can't quite believe how cheap it is! It's a heavy-duty but non-greasy nourishing conditioner with coconut water, aloe vera and loads of other great natural ingredients. Straw-like hair will love this! The Hask Conditioner pairs with the shampoo - personally I find this to be a bit more 'essential' than it, but they do work together to leave dry or frizzy hair smooth without weighing it down with product. My hair also definitely reacts less to moisture in the air when I use this conditioner (this with the Redken All Soft Shampoo is my favourite combination). The Redken Conditioner is a lovely option for leaving your hair looking and feeling softer and silkier. I don't find it heavy or greasy on the hair despite it having quite a thick texture when you squeeze it out of the bottle. The Pureology Conditioner is definitely the most fresh, lightweight option of the bunch, so it's what I opt for when I'm using a hair mask beforehand. At the same time, It's still enough to quench thirsty hair and give it a healthy, visible shine.

Scalp treatment: L'Oreal Elvive Phytocleaer Anti Dandruff Scalp Lotion | £9.99 | This product isn't quite like anything else in my collection - it's a lotion in a spray bottle that I spritz directly onto my scalp after washing and conditioning. It really isn't noticeable in the hair despite the fact you leave it in. It really helps to soothe my sensitive scalp and I definitely have much less visible dandruff when I use this product.

Styling product: Colour Wow Dreamcoat* | £22 | This product has been a bit of a revelation for me! Essentially you mist it onto your hair and blow-dry to activate. It essentially helps the hair maintain its style in humid or damp weather. This makes such a difference for me - my hair no longer frizzes at the slightest sign of moisture and I can't be without this product!

Wet serum: Pureology Hydrate Shinemax* | £23.50 | I always use this product on my damp hair before I reach for the blow-dryer! It isn't sticky or greasy and doesn't leave any sort of residue in my hair. I love the lightweight texture - it's so fresh and hydrating and leaves my hair smoother and looking nice and healthy.

When needed

All-in-one: Hair is Fabric Hydration Support | £25 (for standard size) | This is an amazing cleansing conditioner - when I'm in a rush it's amazing because you only have to apply it, leave for a few minutes and rinse. It leaves my hair clean and fresh but also hydrated, smooth and healthy. I really can't recommend it enough - it's a holy grail product for me.

Exfoliate: Kiehl's Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment | £20 | I definitely suffer from a sensitive scalp that can get a bit itchy and flaky. This is an amazing treatment that contains both physical and chemical exfoliants, so you massage it into the scalp, leave for a few minutes and rinse. It feels super-invigorating and just helps clear any dead skin cells, leaving my scalp healthy and dandruff-free.

Hair mask: Lee Stafford Coco Loco Mask | £6.99 | This is one of my favourite drugstore hair care ranges and I can never quite believe how affordable this mask is. I use it once a week and it has such a light texture, meaning it intensely nourishes my hair without smothering it. My hair is much silkier when I use this without any of the greasiness that sometimes comes with more heavy-duty products.

Dry Shampoo: Playa Dry Shampoo* | £17.65 | I'm really not the heavy user of dry shampoo I was during my uni days, partly because of the newly-sensitive scalp I mentioned! However on those occasions where I'm desperate; this is what I reach for. It has a very fine, transparent mist so doesn't build up too much at the roots and doesn't give that chalky look. It absorbs excess oils, adds volume and smells great!

  6. I used to have the L'Oreal Extraordinary Oil, and you've just reminded me of its existence haha! I loved it, and used it all the time. Now might be the time to get it again, as my dry hair could definitely do with it! The scalp treatment sounds really nice as well, and if it works, I'd love to try it out.

  11. You use a lot of products! I am very boring with my hair; shampoo, conditioner and leave in treatment, that's it. I do use SLS free products though, my scalp gets really irritated with SLS haircare.
