The Party Makeup Edit

It's officially party season! I'm very much a tinted moisturiser and sheer lip kind of girl during the day, so I really like to do something a bit special for an evening out. And, realistically, if there's any time to be totally extra then it's during the Christmas and New Year festivities...

Base

I start by using the Becca Backlight Priming Filter | £32 | because matte foundations tend to last longer however I still like my skin to look glowing. This is a hydrating primer that gives your skin such incredible radiance! It isn't necessarily going to make your makeup last significantly longer, however that doesn't bother me so much if my foundation is going to do that. Next I use the Bobbi Brown Corrector (Peach) | £19.50 | to neutralise the tone of my dark circles - it's just a cream-textured product I apply with my fingers.

My go-to for nights out is the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longewear Foundation (330) | £26 | review. This is matte, long-wearing and full-coverage however doesn't look heavy or caky. I like to apply it with a dense buffing brush to really work it into the skin. It isn't too heavy and doesn't look caky or drying. The most amazing full-coverage concealer is the Kat Von D Lock It Creme Concealer (M27 & M29) | £20. It has quite a hydrating consistency, unlike a lot of concealers with this level of coverage. I apply it with a damp beauty sponge, using a deeper shade on my face to hide any blemishes and something more highlighting under the eyes. It doesn't really crease and it very long-wearing. I don't know how it hides so much without looking like I'm wearing loads of makeup but that's exactly how it works! I then set under my eyes and any little problem areas for shine with my Ben Nye Banana Luxury Dome Powder Jar* | £13.50. It's an incredibly finely-milled loose powder that really does take away the shine and ensure my base stays in place for hours and hours.

Cheeks

It's a night out so of course my highlighter is going to be the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop | £32. I just love the smooth, non-powdery, super dewy-effect formula of Becca's highlighters. They're so pigmented and give such an incredible, intense highlight! Champagne Pop is my perfect shade - a sort of golden-chamagne with peachy undertones. I use the Fenty Beauty Match Stix Matte Skinstick in Truffle | £21 | to contour with. As it's a cream product, I apply it directly onto my foundation as opposed to after powdering. I'm not a big contour pro - I just swipe this on to define my cheekbones and it blends out easily with a dense buffing brush to give a natural look with minimal effort. The blusher I use for this kind of look is the Milani Baked Blush in Berry Amore | £10. It just gives a gorgeous, glowing hint of berry colour without overpowering the look. The formula is very smooth and even too.

Eyes

To ensure that my eye makeup is impactful and lasts as long as possible, I prime using the sheer Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion (Original) | £17 | and the peachy nude cream eyeshadow base: MAC's Paint Pot in Layin' Low | £16. I then use a mix of single eyeshadows I have. The Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Pan in Shimma Shimma | £4.95 | is the perfect sheeny off-white champagne tone for an inner corner highlight. MAC's Pro Refill Eyeshadow Pan in Amber Lights | £10 | is a gorgeous warm gold with a soft metallic sheen that I use all over the lid. I love Makeup Geek's Eyeshadow Pan in Cherry Cola | £4.95 | in the crease - it's a muted purple matte that links in with the overall berry look without being too much. Finally, to add some smokiness to the outer corner, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyeshadow Single in Cognac | £12 | which is a gorgeous reddish-brown with a soft shimmer. These eyeshadow brands are my favourites and I can just trust them in terms of pigmentation and longevity.

Of course for eyeliner, I love the winged look and my favourite product to do this with is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black* | £14.50. It's just so precise and pigmented, plus incredibly smudge-proof, meaning that it looks sharp even after an entire day of wear. I then tight-line using the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion | £15.50. This is a very matte, pigmented, long-wearing black that just gives that totally solid winged liner look and adds a natural fullness to your lashes. I then take the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Amber Haze | £19 | across the bottom lash line. It's just a gorgeous, warm, rich golden-bronze shade with a soft metallic sheen. The texture is creamy but long-wearing once it sets down and it just adds that nice bit of smokiness to the look.

My favourite mascara is the Maybelline Lash Sensational | £8.99 | because it adds so much length, curl and clump-free volume. It's great for nights out because it doesn't smudge or flake. I don't normally wear false lashes but, as it's a special occasion, I reach for my Ardell Demi Wispies | £5.49. I actually cut these down to 3/4 length and gently place them towards the outer part of my lash line. They just take the look to the next level and make my lashes appear so fluttery!

For my brows I love the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade (Granite) | £19 | on nights out. It's pigmented, incredibly long-lasting and smudge-proof. It does give a bold look, however applied with a light hand using a small angled liner brush, I find you can draw in each individual hair. I then set my brows using the ColourPop Boss Brow Gel in Clear | $6. This product is great because it has hold without leaving my brows feeling stiff.

Lips & Finishing Touches

On the lips, it has to be a berry tone! I have two options here and I haven't yet decided which I'll wear for my Christmas party. There's the MAC Amplified Lipstick in Dubonnet | £16.50 | and the MAC Matte Lipstick in Diva | £16.50. The Amplified formula is quite unusual in that it's incredibly pigmented but does have a slight sheen, meaning that it's not at all drying and is actually very forgiving to wear, though it isn't as long-wearing as a matte (so needs touching up throughout the evening). It's a gorgeous ruby red shade - red's rarely suit me but somehow this tone really works! Diva is a Matte, and it is more on the drying side compared to the more nude shades I have in this formula from MAC, so exfoliating and moisturising your lips beforehand is essential. It's a classic warm reddish-berry tone.

I finish my makeup off with a spritz of MAC's Prep + Prime Fix+ | £18. This isn't a setting spray in the sense that it's going to make your makeup last longer, however as I'm using a long-wearing foundation and concealer with a setting powder, I'm less interested in that. This mist just helps my makeup look fresh, glowing and seamless, stopping it being powdery or heavy.

What party makeup will you be wearing this winter?

  1. I think I need to buy Diva and Dubonnet - they are both stunning shades! I didn't think the KVD concealer would be hydrating so I'm intrigued by it now! I have a similar post with my picks coming soon! xx

  5. Some amazing product mentioned in here, again! A few of my tried, tested & approved ones, like the Kat Von D concealer, UD primer potion, MUG Cherry Cola & Mac Amber Lights. Stunning products! Haven't tried any of the Fenty Beauty products yet; when I was in Manchester at the end of October there was a waiting line in Harvey Nichols to even BROWSE the Fenty counter. I politely declined for that experience :-)

  8. Loved these! You have so many great products there. I used to hate the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, but I decided to give it another go recently and I love it. How do you like the Ardell lashes? I have a wedding soon and I was thinking about trying some but didn't want anything too over the top. Just something natural.

  11. Its good to hear that the KVD concealer is hydrating as I feared it would be thick and drying because its so high coverage. I tried a sample of the foundation and hated it but will keep this on my radar xxx
