My Everyday Skincare Routine

As we head into the winter months, I've settled into a regular skincare routine to help the dehydration I suffer from, that's gentle and that won't be too heavy for my combination skin. Today I wanted to share with you the products I've been reaching for pretty much every day over the post month or two.

AM

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser | £15 | It's really hard to explain this formula, because it isn't quite like anything I've tried before. Unlike most jelly cleansers, it doesn't melt or emulsify; it stays a thick gel texture. It's quick and easy to use and does the job. It's very gentle and leaves my skin soft, clean and fresh. It gets rid of any lingering impurities without stripping my skin and I think it's suitable for pretty much any skin type, including sensitive.
Ingredients include: rosewater, Vitamin B5

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater | £11 | I pretty much exclusively use face mists in the morning - they're just a quick and easy way to tone the skin and give it a boost. I love this one from Mario Badescu, especially for the winter months, because it's just so softening and hydrating. It still has a water-light texture and doesn't leave any stickiness behind on the skin. It just gives a nice moisture boost and calms the skin (plus smells great!)
Ingredients include: gardenia extract, rosewater, aloe vera

Pestle and Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum* | £36 | I can't believe I'm halfway through this bottle and I still haven't given it a full review! I've been using it every single day for the past couple of months before moisturising. It's cruelty free, vegan and free from parabens and sulphates, as well as being reasonably-priced for this kind of product. Hyaluronic Acid is a lightweight ingredient that's incredible at helping the skin retain moisture. You honestly only need a couple of drops of this fluid serum because it spreads beautifully on the skin. It doesn't feel tacky or take long to absorb in. It plumps and smooths my skin, giving it moisture without being a heavy added step in my skincare routine, which is why I love it!
Ingredients include: hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre | £20 (75ml) | Regular readers will know that I'm obsessed with this multi-tasker - it can be used as an overnight mask, a primer and a moisturiser, making it one of my travel essentials. I use it pretty much everyday as a moisturiser because it has this light cream-lotion texture that's quite difficult to describe because it's so nourishing without being thick or heavy. It smooths and softens my skin without leaving behind any surface shine. It just makes my skin look fresh and glowing, as well as ensuring my makeup goes on smoothly over it without clinging to dry patches.
Ingredients include: aloe vera, soy protein

Embryolisse Smoothing Eye Contour Care* | £25.49 | All I want from an eye cream is something that will be moisturising enough for my makeup not to look dry under my eyes but that isn't overly thick and greasy. I also like something that just de-puffs the area and stops me looking too tired. Luckily this lightweight formula does just that - it's almost like a cream-gel because it melts right into the skin instead of sitting on top of it.
Ingredients include: Vitamin A, Vitamin E

PM

Skin Laundry Nourishing Cleansing Oil* | £26 | I'm so glad this brand is on Cult Beauty now because it used to be a little bit awkward to get hold of, however the products are amazing and very reasonably-priced. I've tried a lot of cleansing oils - essentially, I look for something that will lift up even the most stubborn waterproof eye makeup, that comes off easily and is gentle on the skin and won't sting my sensitive eyes. This product does all of that - it doesn't really have much of a fragrance and (despite the name) it isn't heavy, so doesn't leave behind any residue. I know that paired with a damp muslin cloth, this will remove my makeup in a few short minutes.
Ingredients include: jojoba oil, macadamia nut oil, tea tree oil

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water | £15.50 | Unfortunately this reverse pump packaging doesn't look to be available any more - it's really handy and I actually just refill it with the standard bottles of Bioderma. I use a cotton wool pad of this just to ensure that all the makeup from the awkward spots and around my eyes is completely gone. It's a classic for a reason - although I repurchase it all the time, I find I don't get through this as quickly as other micellar waters because it's so effective. It really does feel just like water on my skin too.
Ingredients include: micelles

Niod Sanskrit Saponins* | £21 | Niod has to be one of my favourite skincare brands - it brings scientific products for true skincare obsessives that really aren't as expensive as you'd expect! This is a really unusual cleanser - it's not for removing makeup and should be used on dry or slightly damp skin. It has an almost paste-gel formula and has an unusual, but not unpleasant and pretty mild, scent. It foams very slightly when you rinse it off, however doesn't suck the moisture out of your skin. It just leaves my skin feeling completely smooth, soft, clear and healthy. If you have spot-prone skin and want something that isn't stripping, then this could be the one for you.
Ingredients include: ayurvedic plants

Pixi Glow Tonic | £18 | I don't actually use physical face scrubs that often, instead I apply this toner every other day, and when I'm not using this I'll just grab a face mist for the evening too. As well as the miracle ingredient glycolic acid (an AHA which chemically exfoliates the skin), it contains calming and softening ingredients that smell amazing! AHAs can sometimes be a little harsh but the low percentage combined with the extra soothing agents make this nice and gentle. It clears away dead skin cells, getting rid of dry patches and evening the skin's tone and texture. It helps hyper-pigmentation and also just makes your skin look fresh and glowing.
Ingredients include: glycolic acid, witch hazel, aloe vera

Skin Laundry Night Renew Treatment* | £36 | I'm actually almost out of this! It's a moisturising but not-too-heavy night cream that contains a very low concentration (0.2%) of retinol (AKA Vitamin A) - an ingredient scientifically proven to have anti-blemish and anti-aging properties. It's especially great when used regularly at a low level and this is actually a great 'starter' product because if you go right in there with a 5% formula, you may experience peeling. It has a lovely smoothing effect and just  seems to improve and maintain the overall quality of my skin so it looks fresh and moisturised by morning.
Ingredients include: retinol, shea butter

  1. I'm really struggling to find the right everyday skincare routine at the moment, thanks to an awkward combination of breakouts and dryness. I've wanted to try that Pestle & Mortar serum for ages so now may be the time - it sounds like it'll be good for boosting hydration without being heavy enough to cause more spots.

  7. MMMMMMM YES milky jelly cleanser is my favorite! though, i use it at night mostly haha. i love the mild scent too! the mario badescu spray is one of my favorites too, i don't feel like it does a lot in terms of toning/skincare, but i like it to cut my moisturizers/serums so they're a lot more fluid and sink in easier!

have you tried the garnier micellar water? bioderma and garnier work pretty similarly for me, and garnier is a little less expensive!

    1. Yeah I did use the Garnier one for a little while but just didn't find it worked as well and I used a lot more product. I did like the Simple one better but nothing has measured up to Bioderma for me yet! xx

I love the sound of the Pixi glow tonic too, I am not a huge fan of scrubs either so having a good toner is fab! :) I might need to pick up a bottle next time I am in M&S! :)
