The Holiday Beauty Edit

It's well and truly holiday season and I couldn't be happier about that! These are the products I recommend if you're taking a beach break and need a bit of beauty inspiration...

Hair

When I go on holiday, my hair tends to be pretty low-maintenance. However I like to ensure it stays moisturised and protected, plus there are definitely a few practical essentials.

The Orange Watercolour Wet Brush* | £12.99 | This is a can't-live-without product for me and how beautiful is this design? (And I'm so grateful that this personalised version was kindly sent to me!) I don't know how it works but it just does; it gently detangles my wet hair in just a few brush strokes without pulling on it or causing breakage. This is perfect for those beach or poolside days to easily get your hair smooth and out of your face.

Philip Kingsley Sun Shield UV Defence* | £22 | I'd somehow never used one of these hair SPF products before last summer and now I don't know what I'd do without them! This is a milky spray that doesn't leave a sticky or greasy residue on my hair. On sunny days, I just give my hair a spritz of this as the final step in my routine. It protects the hair from sun damage (which is essential for me, as my hair can be quite dry and brittle) and also prevents it bleaching or the colour changing due to UV rays. This really helps my hair stay soft and healthy even when exposed heavily to the sun. It also comes in a hand-luggage-friendly 100ml bottle.

Philip Kingsley Instant Beach* | £22 | I was really intrigued by this 'salt spray without the salt'; although I do like the beachy look, I sometimes find that the salt residue leaves my hair a bit gritty (which is really not great for damaged hair). This is a water-like mist that doesn't leave much of a product build-up in my hair. It adds a really nice amount of volume and that slight texture, making it perfect for a quick freshen up before you head out in the evening.

Philip Kingsley After-Sun Scalp Mask* | £17 | I have a pretty sensitive scalp and have to admit that there have been times when I've come in after a day at the beach to see a bright red scalp hidden underneath my strands of hair hair... This is something I can see myself using even at home during the rest of the year because it's just so soothing! There's chamomile and aloe vera in it which is soooo calming on that nasty, itchy irritation.

Philip Kingsley Swimcap* | £15 | This is probably the most well-known Philip Kingsley summer product and comes in a travel size. It protects the hair from UV, chlorine and salt water, so you just pop it on at the start of the day and top up as and when your hair gets wet. It doesn't feel at all heavy or greasy in my hair and just keeps it soft, silky and healthy.

Moroccanoil Curl Defining Cream | £8.95 | If you have curly hair then this is a holiday must-have. It hydrates and nourishes the hair, as well as ensuring your curls stay smooth and defined without making them feel overly crispy.

Invisibobble Traceless Hair Ring | £4.95 | These are just an essential! Whether it's for the flight out or whilst I'm over there, I just always have about 5 of these in my bag. They allow me to tie up my hair without leaving it damaged or with a huge kink in it.

Alfa Italia Rose Gold Viaggio Travel Hair Set* | £39.95 | I was really intrigued by this set, because if there's one thing that definitely takes up far too much space in my suitcase, it's my heat styling tools. This is an affordable little set with rose gold detailing that comes with a set of styling straighteners, a blow dryer and a detangling brush. I don't tend to reach for the brush so much, but the straighteners are pretty impressive and I can definitely get along with the dryer.
The straightens are small, so if you're going away for a week and want to be able to fully straighten your entire head of hair most days, then they might not be for you, however if you're planning on going au natural for most of your trip and just want something to add a bit of style to your hair or to straighten an unruly fringe then these are perfect. They're very smooth and don't drag on the hair, and they're impressively powerful, despite the smaller size. They can be used for waves or for straightening. The blow-dryer comes with a diffuser and a regular attachment, though bear in mind it only has one warm setting. However I do still think it leaves my hair nice and smooth.

Skincare

In terms of skincare, I like to keep things fresh and shine-free. Protecting my skin from the sun is also so important.

Embryolisse Hydra-Mat Emulsion* | £21.24 | It's important to keep your skin hydrated, even when it's a little shinier than usual. I like to use a lightweight product like this to moisturise without smothering or breaking my skin out. This leaves it with a nice, satin finish.

Neostrata Sheer Physical Protection SPF50 PA++++* | £34 | This is a slightly more expensive sunscreen option but for the level of protection, ease of application and overall texture, I have to say that it's worth the extra investment! It's tinted and has a water-like formula. It doesn't pill up, break me out or leave my skin with a white-cast, so ticks all of the boxes for me!

Hylamide Matte 12 Primer* | £23 | I'm almost out of this stuff and will definitely be repurchasing it before I go away at the end of next month! It's a gel-like primer that helps ensure my base lasts in the heat and stays as shine-free as possible.

Vichy Ideal Soleil Hydrating Mist SPF30* | £16.50 | This is the perfect product to throw into your bag for top-ups during the day. It's a very fine mist so comes out more or less invisible when sprayed onto the skin, which is great because it means no white cast. It also feels incredibly refreshing and won't ruin your makeup if sprayed over it. It also has a no-sand-stick formula, so you don't need to worry about that either!

Makeup

Obviously, during the day on a beach holiday, if I wear makeup then it'll be pretty minimal. However with my friends and family, we always get a bit dressed up to go out for dinner and drinks in the evening, so I have a few products to spruce up with as well! This little pouch from Glossier is so handy to put everything in when you're travelling.

Cover FX Mattifying Anti-Blemish BB Gel* (G Medium-Deep) | £35 | I'm so gutted that this looks to have been discontinued (at least in the UK) and I don't have a backup... It somehow combines good coverage with a super-lightweight formula and a non-drying, long-wearing matte finish, even in the sun.

Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer (Ginger) | £23 | This is such quick and easy concealer, making it perfect for low-maintenace days. You can just apply it on blemishes or over dark circles with your fingers to provide a natural, medium-full coverage finish that will last all day.

MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural (Medium-Dark) | £24.50 | This is a lightweight, natural powder with some coverage, so keeps the shine at bay and my makeup in place even in the heat.

Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Ginger Pop | £17 | I cannot rave about this blusher formula enough! It has a very slight sheen, making it beautifully blend-able and goes on evenly, lasting incredibly well throughout the day. There's that perfect level of pigmentation that means you don't look like a clown but still get that gorgeous, long-wearing colour. This is a warm orange-peach tone.

ColourPop x Alexis Ren Pressed Face Duo in Topaz | $15 | This is a super-pigmented highlighter and bronzer duo. The powders are beautiful and smooth; the bronzer is a warm, matte tone that's perfect for a sun-kissed look, and the highlighter is a dewy, intense true gold (again, perfect for a holiday makeup look). They're easy to apply and blend out nicely on the skin.

MAC Peintures Paint in Bamboom | £16 | This is a long-wearing cream eyeshadow that I often use as a base, but it's beautiful enough to be worn on its own or with a bit of the bronzer in the crease and the highlighter in the inner corner from Topaz. It's a pinky-taupe brown with the finest golden sheen running through it. It's the perfect 'no eyeshadow' eyeshadow.

Benefit Gimme Brow Volumising Brow Gel* (03) | £20 | Gimme Brow is basically my go-to on a lazy day. It adds depth and volume to my brows, whilst holding them in place. It has a tiny little brush for precise application and leaves your brows looking groomed in just a couple of quick sweeps.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Stingray* | £14.50 | This is a seriously pigmented crayon eyeliner in a matte black colour that stays in place all day long without smudging or transferring. It's perfect for adding a bit of definition to the eyes.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara | £8.99 | I often find that in the heat, mascara can melt right off my lashes and really irritate my eyes, so I take a waterproof formula with me on holiday. It's a little crispier than the original but still gives me flake-free length and volume, so it's worth it not to make the irritation of a regular formula.

Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Honey | £20 | This is a nourishing, creamy lip balm which contains SPF15. It gives a lovely warm caramel-nude wash of colour.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Jane | £25 | For the evening, I love this lipstick! It's a creamy, pigmented formula in a vibrant reddish-terracotta-orange colour that's perfect for a holiday makeup look.

Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray (Travel Size) | £10 | This light setting spray helps stop my makeup moving around during the day and also prevents my skin getting oily in the heat.

Body

Finally, of course I have a few essential body products to give me that summer feeling, and to protect my skin!

Clarins Sun Care Oil Spray SPF30* | £21 | This is pretty much my perfect level of body protection and it also means I get a nice boost of nourishment for my skin when I use it. This comes out as a mist and is easy to massage into the skin to ensure you stay protected.

Vichy Ideal Soleil Double Useage After Sun Oil* | £13 | Ok, so I haven't tried many after sun products but this has to be the best! It has such an unusual texture; it has an almost gel-like consistency when first applied, however as you massage it in, it becomes a nourishing oil to replenish the skin. It has a nice, fresh scent and feels so cooling on the skin. I caught the sun a bit on my back a couple of weeks ago and this was soooo nice and soothing and calmed that awful prickly feeling right down.

Nuxe Sun Delicious Fragrant Water* | £26 | I'm absolutely obsessed with this scent! It's just so warm, deep and sweet whilst being incredibly light. For me, this is summer in a bottle with notes of vanilla, musk and coconut. Basically, I just want to drown myself in this stuff and smell of it forever...

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or Shimmering Dry Oil | £20 | I love using this for the evenings when I'm on holiday and want to get my 'golden goddess' on! It has the most amazing formula as it isn't at all slippery or greasy but is super-nourishing. It has a fine golden shimmer running through it which just gives your legs a flawless, sun-kissed look.

Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Coconut | £3.99 | A white nail polish just 'pops' so nicely against a tan, so I love to wear one when I'm on holiday. My favourite is this high-shine formula from Barry M - it applies opaquely and lasts a good few days before chipping.
