My Top 10 Beauty Launches of 2017 So Far

I can't believe we're already halfway through the year! There have been a lot of new releases in 2017 so far but hopefully this post isn't just giving you all of the obvious ones (Kylie Cosmetics anything, Becca x Chrissy Teigen, Urban Decay Naked Heat etc.) In the age of anti-hauls I wanted to bring you the products I genuinely think are amazing, whether you'll have heard of them before or not!

10. Becca Sunlit Bronzers: Ipanema Sun | £32 each

I get the impression that bronzer, as a product category, gets a pretty bad rap! I guess in years gone by there were very few option, most of which were muddy or orange (or both). However with this new release Becca have nailed the sun-kissed look. It’s warm but not orange and has a slight sheen but isn’t shimmery. It’s just right for giving your face some colour and dimension. The formula is incredibly smooth and applies evenly, wearing well throughout the day. If there was a slight negative, it would be that the shade is very pigmented, so approach with caution! I have the shade Ipanema Sun, which is pretty spot-on for my skin tone.

9. ColourPop Pressed Face Powders: Topaz & Double Play | $16 each

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when ColourPop launched these; as a brand (their backstory is that they’re an LA-based indie company that’s only been going a couple of years but has gained crazy traction online for their affordable products) they’re primarily known for their cream formulas. They’ve since ventured into powder eyeshadows with some success, however their powder cheek products are amazing! I have two here; one is from the Alexis Ren collection (they also do a lot of collaborations with Instagram models I’ve never heard of!) – Topaz – and the other – Double Play – is from the themed Sand collection. Firstly, the pan size is absolutely huge, especially for the price you’re paying. The matte shades (a warm bronzer in Topaz and a terracotta-toned blusher in Double Play) are so smooth and easy to apply, with amazing colour payoff. The highlighters are BLINDING so might not be for you if you only like a very subtle look, but I really love the dewy effect. Topaz contains a yellow gold colour, whereas Double Play has a slightly peachy, icy champagne tone. These powders apply so nicely and evenly and have an amazing level of pigmentation, plus last very well on the skin.

8. March Jacobs Coconut Collection: Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter in Dew You?* | £32

Marc Jacobs Beauty has seriously expanded its Coconut-themed collection for 2017 and to be honest, the entire brand was new to me this year. It’s been quite hyped-up for a while but it’s only been in recent months that the products have been widely available here in the UK. My pick here is the Dew Drops liquid highlighter; it’s such a unique light oyster gold shade that’s amazing mixed in with your foundation or primer for some added luminosity, or used on the high points of the face as a traditional highlighter. The finish isn’t at all glittery, it just has a gorgeous sheen.

7. Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush Palette | £59

This is finally back in stock after I'd assumed it'd been discontinued! It contains 3 blushers in a new formula, which consists of a selection of their Strobe powders mixed in with a colour. This makes for a more luminous, dewy, shimmery blusher than their standard formula. However I still love these, though they're a little sheerer, as the shimmer doesn't translate to glitter on the skin and they're long-lasting and easy to apply. In here there's a pinky-peach, a warm caramel nude and a pink-purple.

6. Milani Instant Glow Strobe Powders: Dayglow & Sunset Glow* | £13 each

I really wasn't sure what to expect from these but they turned out to be some of the best highlighters on the market! The formula is soft and blends out beautifully, giving a subtle but noticeable sheen instead of being really glittery or intense and dewy. The two shades I have are quite similar (I bought Dayglow and was later sent Sunset Glow) but there are differences; Dayglow is a warmer yellow-gold light tone, whereas Sunset Glow is slightly more subdued shade with bronzy-champagne undertones.

5. ColourPop x Sonya Esman Collection: Gemini By Night Eyeshadow Palette, Here Comes the Sun Super Shock Face Duo & Perks of Being a Wildflower Mini Stix to Go | $16-18 each

I've never heard of Sonya Esman but I can tell you that I love her collaboration with ColourPop! I wasn't that wowed with the ColourPop powder shadows initially but I really like this palette; the shades are so easy to work with and have nice colour payoff whilst still looking natural and effortless once applied. They have a smooth texture and are very easy to use, though the longevity could be a little better. The cheek duo is a product I love, but only really for the rose-peach blusher that contains a very slight golden sheen. I'm not really into the very light white-champagne highlighter, but it was worth the price of this product just for that gorgeous blusher! It's a cream but doesn't go shiny or patchy on my skin and lasts really well. Finally are the Mini Stix; I don't use the lip primer (an unnecessary product category, in my opinion) and they don't really work as cheek colours for me, but I think these are gorgeous lip colours. The collection as a whole works beautifully together for a fresh-faced summer makeup look.

4. Too Faced Sweet Peach Collection: Eyeshadow Palette & Papa Don't Peach Blush | £25 & £39

I feel like this collection was never going to live up to its OTT hype, however the products I tried from it were still good enough to make it onto my top 10 list. The eyeshadow palette is gorgeous if you, like me, love warm toned shadows (though it has to be said that the tones aren't that peachy). The quality is exactly what I'd expect from Too Faced, which is excellent! They're incredibly smooth and blend out beautifully whilst all having amazing colour payoff, in fact I don't think there's a single dud in there. It's worth the investment and I actually use it a lot more than I'd expected to. The blusher, however, is the total highlight for me! It's a gorgeous warm peachy tone with a very subtle sheen running through it. It never looks like too much and brings that perfect amount of colour to the cheeks. It applies smoothly and evenly with virtually no effort, plus wears incredibly well throughout the day. I've already got so much use out of it and know it'll be a firm favourite for a long time to come.

3. Pixi + Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse | £24

This release came out and there was a flurry of excitement. It's #3 on my list, so I think it's fair to say that I believe it was well-deserved hype! It's amazing in its simplicity; it does exactly what you want it to. It's gentle, functional and effective. The pot is divided into two: a solid oil cleanser that effortlessly lifts and removes makeup when paired with a damp cloth, and the cream cleanser softly nourishes and hydrates the skin whilst being incredibly lightweight.

2. Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer (Ginger) | £23

I honestly wasn't expecting to like this. The word 'matte' in the title, the potted concealer formulation... However I gave it a go and I'm so glad that I did! I'm nearing the end of my first pot and there's already a backup ready and waiting in my drawer. It's not a hydrating formula but neither is it drying, it's just seamless once applied. You can pop it on with your fingers and very little blending and it conceals without looking like you're wearing much makeup at all. It isn't caky or heavy but gives a really good level of coverage and works both on blemishes and under the eyes. It's long-wearing and doesn't crease on me, making it an everyday favourite.

1. The Ordinary Base Products: Serum Foundation (2.1Y), High-Spreadability Fluid Primer* & High-Adherence Silicone Primer* | £3.90-5.70 each

I think it's fair to say that the Ordinary's affordable skincare has taken the beauty world by storm! This year saw the launch of two primers and also the Ordinary Colours. The Coverage Foundation hadn't arrived when I created this post, but it's since landed! I'm going to give you a full review of both soon, but I've been using the Serum formula for a while and absolutely love it! It's a lightweight formula with build-able coverage that's perfect for this time of year. It kind of mimics the skin's natural type, so is neither dewy nor matte in finish. It looks lovely on the skin; natural but perfecting. The primers are both amazing too; the High-Spreadability gives the skin a satin finish and is incredibly smoothing. The High-Adherence is cream-based and despite some misgivings based on the name; I totally love it! It's moisturising without adding too much hydration and ensures my foundation lasts for hours.

  1. All these shades look so beautiful! I too have been enjoying a Becca Sunlit bronzer that came as part of their Sunchaser Palette. The hourglass shades look amazing, and I've been loving mine from the Ambient Lighting Surreal palette. When it comes to blending, I haven't experienced anything like it. Xx

  3. Too Faced Sweet Peach palette is so tempting with their array of warm and peachy, reddish shade, I'm weak for them. Not to mention the buttery smooth formula. Reading your reviews and seeing their photos never fail to make me want them, but up until now, I'm still considering whether I should go with it or not. This rekindle my thirst again, maybe I should get it? haha

  10. Lovely choices - I really love the look of the Becca Bronzer and will definitely look to add this to my collection in the future. I gave away my Topaz palette but I would've loved the bronze shade from that paired with the highlighter of the other duo xxx

  28. I am so happy you like Becca's Sunlit Bronzers - I feel like they're so underrated and yes, they're a bit on the pricey side but they are not only beautiful but have a great shade range! Sadly the ColourPop bronzers are all too dark for me, but they're beautiful formulas. Thanks for the post!
