8 Beauty Discoveries You Need to Know About

I mentioned a few months back that favourites are pretty much dead on my blog, for various reasons... However I thought that it'd be cool to tell you about my favourite beauty discoveries on an ad hoc basis, as and when I find enough products or brands I really think you should know about!

Sigma Ultimate Copper Eye Brush Set* | $152 | If you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know I'm a huge fan of Sigma brushes and there are a fair few that have made it into my 'every single day' stash. I also have to say that in my experience, these brushes also hold up incredibly well, in that the finish doesn't tarnish and they don't shed (they also come with a 2 year warranty). In fact, I'd say they're some of the best brushes I've tried in terms of their lifespan - there are 3 or 4 that I use virtually daily and have had for about 2 years but they still look brand new when washed. I know everyone's all about Morphe these days, but personally I think the quality of these is so much better. This set professes to be every single eye brush you'll ever need and contains a variety of brushes for blending, lining, highlighting, laying down your base colour and everything else. I also love the copper finish with black handles.

The full list of brushes is at the source, so I'll just take you through my absolute favourites, which are the: E45 Small Tapered Blending Brush (I use this super-precise brush to highlight my inner corners pretty much every day), E25 Blending Brush (perfect for packing on a shade all over the lid), E55 Eye Shading Brush (for patting a darker shade on the outer part of the lid), E39 Buff and Blend Brush (for precise blending) and  E35 Tapered Blending Brush (for softly applying colour to the crease). I think there would always be one or two brushes in a set like this that you aren't going to use (unless you're a makeup artist) but the incredible saving you make in picking them up as a set vs. individually does still make this perfect for beginners or anyone looking to bulk-replace their old brushes.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation (2.1Y) | £5.70 | I'd actually been holding off on talking about this until the coverage foundation I also ordered had arrived, however there's still no sign of that being dispatched! So, in lieu of a full review I just wanted to talk briefly about this one. It's a really interesting formula, as it gives what I'd call a natural finish - neither dewy, nor matte - it just mirrors the natural way your skin is. It has an impressive amount of coverage but never looks heavy on the skin and has a lightweight, water-like texture. The longevity is pretty decent, though I'd say I need to powder once or twice during the day. The colour isn't perfect but is fine once applied and I think the slightly more orange tone will probably be a good match once I have a tan, as we head into summer. This is one of my favourite foundations right now; the fact it's a fiver is just a bonus!

Hylamide Photography Foundation* (Golden Tan) | £19 | I'd actually never heard of this product before visiting the Deciem store, however it's already one I'm reaching for regularly and I definitely think it deserves more hype. Whilst I personally wouldn't use this as a foundation on its own, it's perfect used as a primer or mixed in with foundation to give the skin a gorgeous, golden, dewy luminosity. It isn't all all glittery, it just looks like molten gold that you want all over your skin... My only gripe is the packaging, as you have to be careful you don't squeeze too much out! You really don't need much (a pea-sized amount is perfect) so it's pretty annoying.

Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powders | £13 | I honestly can't rave about these highlighters enough - this shade here is Dayglow, which I've had a little longer, but I also recently got my hands on Sunset Glow - review). They just give a beautiful, soft glow to the skin, adding a very natural highlight. Day Glow is a light, warm gold but there are several shades in the collection to suit a whole range of skin tones, so definitely check them out.

MAC Peintures Paint in Bamboom | £16 | I feel like this must have been around for ages but I only just found out about it when I was after one of the potted Paint Pots. This is a cream liquid eyeshadow that comes in a little tube. The formula is very smooth but still super-opaque and doesn't fade or crease on my lids. I often use it as a priming base or even on its own when I'm in a rush (I might add in a warm brown matte to the crease if I have time). It's a warm mid-brown colour with pink and taupe undertones and has a beautiful, very, very subtle golden sheen running through it.

HudaBeauty Liquid Matte in Girlfriend | £18 | I actually first tried this formula when I got one of the shades for Christmas, but something about this colour has sent me a bit nuts for these! I'm 99% sure I'll have ordered another before the end of the month! I just find them so pigmented and long-lasting. Despite being completely matte they don't look or feel drying and are also easy to touch up when you're on the go. Girlfriend is a sandy beige colour that I can't stop wearing, day or night!

Skin Laundry Nourishing Cleansing Oil* | £26 | This brand has to be one of my best new discoveries this year! It's not the easiest to get hold of but Liberty stock it in store and online. This has become my everyday makeup remover without me really realising it! It's so gentle but incredibly effective at removing all of my makeup (including any mascara or eyeliner). It doesn't leave any excess behind either. I definitely think this brand (this product especially) deserves more love in the blogosphere.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + ECGG | £5.80 | I do want to give this a proper review soon, but I had to mention it as I've been using it every day! It has an almost gel-like formula so perfect for oily-skinned people who are less in search of hydration and more concerned with looking awake. This is fast-absorbing and instantly de-puffs my eye area. Another fab bargain from the Ordinary!

  2. I've never seen nor heard anyone speak about that MAC paint before! It legit looks like those squeezy tubes of paint you used to get as a kid. I love cleansing oils I think they are the best at removing every type of makeup so easily but I've never heard of that brand before. I've been after the Dermalogica one for ages but this one sounds good!

  3. Love your Bloglovin posts. They're so informative and helpful. I have lots of brushes but, now realize I should invest in several high end brushes and Sigma seems best. Thank you for suggesting the brushes most needed to start my collection. I also use MAC Paint Pot in Painterly which is a good color for my skin tone and could be worn as my primer or shadow. I would like to try using cream shadows. Do you have a review on the best brands and how to apply, blend, etc.? I would love to read it. I am a young "mature" woman and tend too gravitate towards a few mature beauty YouTubers although, I think your site is excellent no matter the age! 💞

I actually tend to just apply and blend with my finger - there are quite a few cream shadows in this post:

  26. Nice picks Jasmine! I have also discovered Huda Beauty liquid lipsticks recently and they are so nice. I normally hate liquid formulas, because they feel so drying, but applying this one in thin layers seems to do the trick. Have you tried her lip liners? They are on a creamier side, but oh-so-pigmented!
